Abstract

Abelmoschus manihot L. has been used traditionally as folks medicine plant and it containflavonoid and steroid that has health benefit. The objectives of this research were todetermine anti obesity and hypolipidemic activity of flavonoid and steroid extract fromAbelmoschus manihot L. on white male Wistar induced with high content of protein and lipidfood. Anti obesity test were evaluated by the decreasing of rats weight, whereashypolipidemic test were evaluated by the decreasing of total cholesterol levelsphotometrically using Liebermann-Burchard method. The rats were divided into four groups,namely the negative control (distilled water), extract treatment groups (flavonoids andsteroids), and a positive control group (simvastatin). The percentations of Weight reducingand cholesterol level were analyzed by ANOVA, if there were significant in groups, itcontinued with Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results showed that treatment group possesanti obesity activity, whereas flavonoid extract decrease 7.85% body weight of rats andsteroids extract were 13.70% of body weight. Flavonoids showed hypolipidemic effects bydecrease rats cholesterol levels by 86.45% and steroid extract decrease cholesterol levels by72.53%.Keywords : Abelmoschus manihot L., flavonoid extract, steroid extract, anti obesity,hypolipidemic

Abstract

ABSTRACTRhodamine B dye in the form of a crystalline powder green or reddish purple, odorless, anddissolves easily in bright red solution berfluoresan as textile dyes. Rhodamine B is still nofood products were found to contain rhodamine B dye such as crackers, sauces, ice and otherpastries. The purpose of this study is to investigate and determine the levels of rhodamine Bon crackers circulating in the city of Manado. Sampling sites crackers are 4 market in the cityof Manado is Tuminting Market, Market Paal 2, Market Market Bersehati 45 and 45.Samples with ammonia to soak interesting rhodamine B dye using wool yarn, followed byidentification using thin layer chromatography (TLC) and then in detection with UV light 254nm and 366 nm. The reading levels of rhodamine B using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Theresults showed that of the ten samples tested with three times obtained one positive samplecontaining rhodamine B with an average concentration value of rhodamine B in a sample of45 markets in the sword of 0.28 mg/ml. Abstract

Garcinia manggostana L. telah digunakan secara tradisional oleh masyarakat sebagai tanaman obat dandibuktikan secara ilmiah memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang tinggi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menentukanaktivitas antihiperglikemik ekstrak kulit Garcinia manggostana L. terhadap tikus yang diinduksi sukrosa. Profilgula ditentukan pada saat awal dan akhir perlakuan. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulitG. manggostana L. menunjukkan aktivitas antihiperglikemik terhadap tikus yang diinduksi sukrosa selama 4jam. Ekstrak kulit G. manggostana L. mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, saponin dan triterpenoid.Spektrum ultraviolet menunjukkan karakteristik golongan flavon dalam ekstrak kulit G. manggostana L.Senyawa antioksidan dan fenolik dalam ekstrak berperan sebagai antihiperglikemik. Studi lebih lanjutdiperlukan untuk menguji efektivitas pada manusia. Kata kunci : Garcinia manggostana L., antihiperglikemik, tikus, sukrosa

Abstract

Tuis (Nicolaia speciosa, Horan) is a plant which used by people to give taste and odor on food, and it also usedas herbal.The objective of this research was to determine phytochemical content and free radical scavengingactivity from Tuis. Phytochemical content in Tuis was determined by its alkaloid, steroid, flavonoid, phenolic,tannins and saponim content. Free radical scavenging activity from Tuis was determined using 1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil (DPPH) method.Tuis contain phytochemical such as alkaloids, terpenoid, saponim and tannins,although flavonoid appear only in leaves part. The highest free radical scavenging activity from Tuis was leavesextract, with IC50 1,77. Phenolic content in Tuis was believed act as antioxidant.

Abstract

The objectives of this study was to determine phytochemicals content and free radical scavengingactivities of bread fruit leaves. Bread fruit leaves were finely ground in a laboratory mill and samples wasextracted with methanol, ethanol and acetone under room temperature, respectively. Analyses ofphytochemicals based on total phenolic, flavonoid and condensed tannins. The radical scavengingactivities of extracts were determined by 1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and the ferric reducingability plasma assay. The highest total phenolic content was in methanol extract (EM), followed byethanol extract (EE) and acetone extract are 179.89 ± 3.17; 152.55 ± 3.17 and 62.46 ± 1.31 mg/Kgrespectively. EM possessed highest contents of total flavonoid and condensed tannins compared with EEand EA. The addition of methanol extracts of in the reaction mixture showed the highest scavengingactivity in 1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical 74.80% followed by EE 71.80% and 38.80%.These result suggested that contains phenolic compounds groups having free radical scavengingactivities.

Abstract

Clove parasite is a herbal plant commonly used in north sulawesi. Its traditionally used to cure many kindof disease, especially cancer. The objectives of this study was to determine antiphotooxidation activities ofclove parasite flower on linoleic acid 0,03 M under illuminate with 4000 lux fluoresence lamp for 5 hours.Analyses of antiphotooxidation activities based on Lee et al. (1997) method and analyses of rancidity oflinoleic acid was determine with AOCS 1990 methods. The addition of clove parasite flower extracts in thereaction mixture showed antiphotooxidation activities on linoleic acid 0,03 M. The mixture with extractshow lower peroxide value compare with control without extract after 5 hours light exposure at roomtemperature. Abstract

ABSTRACTMomuat et al., 2011. Total antioxidant of some Tinutuan vegetables planted in different altitude places.A research was done to to study the effect of altitude on total antioxidant some tinutuan vegetables. Totalantioxidant of some vegetables was evaluated using ferric reducing antioxidant plasma method. The resultsshow that vegetables treat by heating possessed high antioxidant activity. Total antioxidant of gedi, spinach,kangkung and kemangi from Tomohon were 0.02, 1.37, 0.06 and 0.08, respectively. Total antioxidant of gedi,spinach, kangkung and kemangi from Manado were 0.36, 1.84, 0.30 and 0.58, respectively. High totalantioxidant activity of vegetables from Manado caused by Manado land contain more minerals to support plantgrowth and metabolism.Keywords : altitude, vegetables, tinutuan, total antioxidant

Abstract

ABSTRACTSuryanto et al., 2011. Effect of callamansi citrus (Citrus microcarpa ) on chemical composition and antioxidantphytochemical of Goroho (Musa spp.) banana flour.The objective of this research was to study chemical composition and measured antioxidant activity of gorohobanana flour which immersed with callamansi. The goroho banana was soaked with water, callamansi andsodium methabisulfit for 60 minute. Furthermore, each flour were analyzed its phytochemical such as,proximate analysis, total phenolic content, flavonoid, condensed tannin, carotenoid, ascorbic acid, totalantioxidant using titration and spectrophotometer method. The results showed that callamansi addition of 1%was the best treatment for banana flour. The product had content of moisture, ash, fat, protein, fiber andcarbohydrate were 4.29 ± 0.01; 3.74 ± 0.02; 3.03 ± 2,04; 1.47 ± 0.57; 4.75 ± 0.57 and 85.70 ± 0.59,respectively. The banana flour soaked with callamansi for 60 minute had phenolic, flavonoid, condensed tannintotal content were 55.82 ± 0,01; 6.27 ± 0.08 and 36.50 ± 0.24 mg/kg, respectively. Whereas ascorbic acid andcarotenoid total content of goroho banana flour were 51.92 ± 3.73 and 6.36 ± 1.13mg /kg sample, respectively.Total antioxidant of banana flour extract soaked with callamansi shows high activity compared without soakedand soaked with sodium methabisulfit for 60 minute. The results showed that banana flour immersed withcalamansi extract and sodium metabisulfit possess different proximate composition (p<0.05). Banana immersedwith calamansi extract appears to increase phenolic, flavonoid, condensed tannin, ascorbic acid content as wellas the capacity antioxidant of banana four.Keywords : goroho banana, proximate, flour, callamansi, antioxidant phytochemical

Abstract

Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus Stapf) is a traditional food ingredient characterized by its specific andrefreshing aroma. This objectives of study was determined phytochemical contents and the effect of lemongrass leaves extract in photooxidation linoleic acid and ascorbic acid in system model. Lemon grass leaves wasextracted sequentially with hexane and methanol. The photooxidation reaction system was consisted of linoleicacid 0.03 M in ethanol containing 0.017 mM erythrosine as sensitizer the reaction mixture was exposed under4000 lux fluorescent light up to 5 hours while ascorbic acid 200 μg/mL in phospat buffer solution (pH 7.5)containing 0.0068 mM erythrosine as sensitizer illuminated for 20 minutes. Analyses of phytochemical based ontotal phenolic and flavonoid. Analyses of photooxidation of linoleic acid based on peroxide value anddegradation of ascorbic acid was analyzed using the spectrophotometer at λ 265 nm. The total phenolic andflavonoid content in hexane extract showed the highest phenolic content than methanol extract. Hexane extract1500 ppm exhibited singlet oxygen quenching effect on photooxidation linoleic acid compared with methanolextract, peroxide value 3.57 and 3.72 meq/kg after 5 hours illumination, respectively. Hexane extract 100 ppmalso exhibited singlet oxygen quenching effect on photooxidation ascorbic acid compared with methanol extract,ascorbic acid content 185.44 and 76.67 mg/kg after 5 hours illumination, respectively. It’s concluded thathexane extract of lemon grass leaves contain phenolic component that have singlet oxygen quencher activity.
