Abstract

AbstractThe use of information and communication technology (ICT) in small and medium enterprise (SME) in Indonesia is at low level. Considering that SME in Indonesia employ a lot of people and contribute to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as well as improve performance of industries,  coupled with low level of ICT use in Indonesian SME, ICT’ used in SME must be increased. Therefore, this study aims to map the use of ICT in SME in Bandung, and to apply cognitive intervention and value chain approach in increasing ICT use in SME.Mapping of ICT use in SME was conducted by survey with structured questionnaire and interview involving 61 SME in Bandung. Result shows that ICT use in SME is limited only for product marketing and is mostly using website.  Main constraint of ICT use in SME is related with human resource capability in particular related with limited knowledge and information about ICT use. Based on mapping result, intervention was conducted through education or campaign with value chain content on 30 SME in fashion. Intervention result shows that knowledge level and intention to implement ICT in SME other than marketing purpose is increasing. Implication of the results is discussed

Abstract

There are a lot of baby carrier types commonly found in Indonesia. Aside from the massively produced baby carriers with modern shapes and features, the traditional ‘kain jarik’ baby carriers are still an option to mothers in Indonesia. The research was conducted to evaluate the subjective perception of the consumers in choosing to use a baby carrier. An evaluation was done to see the factors that influence consumers to choose a certain product and their correlations to the products’ designs. Kansei engineering is used as a method to identify the emotional perception of a consumer to a baby carrier by means of a questionnaire involving 525 respondents. The identification process results in several Kansei words that were grouped and used as a stimulus to the questionnaires meant to evaluate 4 samples of baby carriers commonly used in Indonesia. The result showed that there are 3 main factors that encouraged consumers to pick a baby carrier, which are comfort, design, and material. Based on those 3 factors, consumers gave their highest scores to a kangaroo or wrap baby carriers.

Abstract

Organizational culture is one of important factors that contribute to the performance of an organization, including in a hospital. In a hospital, performance can be measured by its level of patient safety. Howover, studies and research that discuss the relationship of organizational culture and patient safety are still very limited, including in Indonesia. This research is conducted to observe organizational culture that support patient safety. This research is conducted in three hospitals in Jakarta. Type of organizational culture is identified using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) questionnaire and the level of patient safety is assessed using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) questionnaire. Once the organizational culture is identified and the level of patient safety culture is observed in each hospital, correlation test and analysis is conducted between types of organizational culture with aspect of patient safety based. Results show that three hospitals do not have dominant organizational culture. However, type of organizational culture that has a significant positive correlation with aspect of patient safety the most is adhocracy culture, eventhough other organizational culture type also support patient safety. The result of this research then used as initial suggestion to make change on organizational culture so that patient safety could be improved.

Abstract

The object of this research is the Industrial Engineering (IE) study program at Bandung Institute of Technology Cirebon Campus which runs block and non-block system lecture. The block system is a lecture by combining two to three class meeting of a course in one day while non-block system is a one time meeting in a week. Block system faced a lot of complained from students because the class were too hectic, the inability of students to receive a lot of quantitative material, and the monotony of the class. This study evaluates student’s mental workload by comparing the results of experimental measurements while attending block and non-block classes. Mental workload was measured with three measuring instruments, named NASA-TLX, Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS), and Stroop test. Experimental results with 38 students concluded that there is actually no significant difference in mental workload between the two systems. Factors that could cause this results to happen include previous experience in block classes, non-optimal block system instructional learning time, mental fatigue in students, and decreased attention.
