Abstract

This study aims to explain the strengthening of the library in the school literacy movement at SMP Negeri 18 Padang. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a single instrumental case study approach because the researcher collects detailed information collected using various data collection procedures over a continuous period of time, which explores in-depth information related to literacy at SMPN 18 Padang. The results showed that there were 2 (two) roles of libraries that were strengthened in the school literacy movement at SMP Negeri 18 Padang, namely the role of libraries as information providers and the role of libraries as managers of student reading materials which must be supported by adequate information technology.

Abstract

The research problem is the declining of reading interest and literacy skills of the community, especially students due to the Covid-19 Pandemic that has hit the world since the last two years. This makes students unable to visit literacy places,  libraries, resulting in reading interest of students, including those who are completing their thesis. To revive the spirit of literacy and help access information, the West Sumatra Archives and Library Service created iSumbar Mambaco. The method  is mix methods. The result is the highest percentage statement, "The iSumbar Mambaco application allows me to study anytime and wherever I am" with score of 527 and  percentage of 82.34%.  iSumbar Mambaco could improve the literacy skills of UIN IB students compiling their thesis during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Keywords: iSumbar Mambaco; Literacy; Covid-19.
