Abstract

Learning should be focused on the social and cultural development of intellectual ability, and encourage the learner’s comprehension and knowledge in order to produce intelligent and educated society. From the data collected from Public Senior High School 1 Denpasar and Dwijendra Senior High School Denpasar, it was found that the departments of social sciences and languages were seriously marginalized, indicated by the time allocated for social sciences and languages. The time allocated for Natural Sciences such as chemistry, physics, and biology averaged three hours a week. The additional ‘extra’ time allocated for Natural Sciences made the overall time allocated for them double the overall time allocated for Social Sciences such as economics, history sociology, and geography. Furthermore, the time allocated for one of them was one hour a week. The knowledge presented by the books of Natural Sciences was highly “instrumentalist-positivistic”; unlike the books of social sciences which only provided academic normative information. The modernity contained in “instrumentative positivism” was the philosophy which gave more priority to practical things and hard work with financial success as the main criterion. It was concluded that the marginalization of the departments of social sciences and languages in Public Senior High School 1 Denpasar and Dwijendra Senior High School Denpasar resulted from modernism, the culture of image, and the image that natural sciences were more advantageous than social sciences and languages.

Abstract

Many temples in Bali have been renovated without regard to their historical value, resulting in many new forms, ornaments, and materials even though the temple as a cultural heritage has cultural, social, and religious values. This research aimed to examine the reasons and process of restoring Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa (Village Temple) and Pura Puseh (Puseh Temple) of Denpasar Traditional Village and analyze the restoration implementation implications of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village. This research used qualitative methods through a case study and ethnographic approach. The results showed that the causal factors in Denpasar Traditional Village restoring Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh were due to a shared understanding of the importance of the traces and historical values in the temple building. It was outlined in the Perarem (rules) regarding the procedures for the temple repair process, and the community understands the importance of Denpasar’s identity value. The restoration stages and process of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village began with the planning process, identification of building form and damage, technical document preparations, procurement of construction workers, restoration implementation, and periodic supervision. The restoration process was accompanied by a series of Balinese Hindu ritual processes, namely Nuntun, Ngeruak, Mendem Pedagingan, Ngingsirang Pretime, and Ngeteg Linggih ceremonies. The restoration implications of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village could provide cultural significance, such as aesthetic, social, and religious values, with substantial cultural and symbolic capital.

Abstract

Education that comes from local wisdom cannot only be adapted to formal education. Informal and non-formal education is a big forum in the realm of education in the family and community environment. One of them can be seen from the parampara culture of Buddhist Brahmin spiritual education which originates from the Buddhakeling paguron tradition which was passed down to one of his Sisyas in Puri Semarapura, which had an impact on the transformation into a Sisya with the Prajna Paramita character. This article aims to reveal the factors of ethnopedagogical transformation in the Sila Sesana Sisya Brahmana Buddha in Puri Semarapura. The results of the study show that there is a transformation in the realm of thoughts, words and deeds as well as gradual educational patterns through Wiku Dhang Acarya, Wiku Ngeraga and Wiku Anglokapalasraya. In this context, the role of the Sesana Sisya Brahmin Buddhist Precepts in Puri Semarapura, which are inherited in a tangible and intangible way, is important to optimize the ability of a Buddhist Brahmin to understand, act and practice the Sesana text through religious literature in actual practical life.

Abstract

This article presents the results of a cultural reflection conducted over the past four years (October 2021 to early 2025) through research on Sesolahan Rêjang Kuno at Pura Luhur Batukau. Employing the epoche phase of Husserlian phenomenological methodology alongside the sahådaya–sahådayasamvàda approach derived from the Nāṭyaśāstra's rasa theory, qualitative data were systematically collected, analyzed, and validated through triangulation techniques. The study identifies factors facilitating transcendental experiences, outlines the processes by which transcendence occurs, examines its psychological impact on the dancers, and explores the theological frameworks of the supporting community and the cosmological context of Pura Luhur Batukau. Findings indicate that this transcendental potential remains largely unrecognized by both dancers and the community, as the performance of the Rêjang dance tends to be oriented primarily toward fulfilling ceremonial completeness (jangkep). This study therefore serves not only as a source of insight but also as a proposed solution for enhancing collective energy toward transcendence. More broadly, it offers a framework for the revitalization of ancient Sesolahan traditions in other regions and provides conceptual inspiration for the development of modern agricultural technologies grounded in traditional and even ancient agrarian civilizations, such as that flourishing on the southern slopes of Mount Batukau.

Abstract

Character education plays a vital role in shaping students' values, yet many existing materials in Hindu Religious Education fail to integrate moral teachings effectively. The Mahabharata, a classical Hindu epic, offers rich narratives that support value-based learning. This study aims to: (1) assess the need for Mahabharata-based teaching materials that incorporate Hindu character values, (2) develop such materials through a structured process, and (3) evaluate their impact on the quality of learning at SMAN 3 Denpasar. Using a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from Borg and Gall, the study involved needs analysis, expert review, limited and full-scale trials, and product refinement. Instruments were validated for reliability, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests. Findings indicate that the developed materials improved students’ engagement and understanding of dharmic values. The study recommends implementation of these modules in classroom practice and suggests broader integration of culturally rooted texts into the national character education curriculum.
