Abstract

The architectural style of buildings in Bali must be able to display the traditional Balinese architectural style (ATB) that is in harmony, balanced and integrated with the environment based on Balinese culture. Globalization and modernization encourage the creation of new technologies in the building materials industry to be more effective and efficient. Through a sociological juridical approach, it was found that the influence of globalization and modernization caused a shift in the architectural paradigm in Bali. Globalization and modernization have led to an identity crisis and the degradation of ATB towards a modern and minimalist direction as well as disharmony of traditional values as the ancestral heritage of the people in Bali. The architectural paradigm shift in Bali has begun to shift and has deviated from the existing rules. The results of the study indicate that there has been a violation of the provisions on building architecture that have been stipulated through the Bali Provincial Regulation No. 5, 2005. Violations that take place seem to be left unchecked, ignorance or also a lack of public understanding of the norms that have been set. This is caused by the legal structure, legal substance and legal culture not working properly.

Abstract

After the fire disaster, Badung market was rebuilt by applying the values of Balinese  local wisdom. It was designed through an integrated synergy of regional arrangement within the Badung market, Kumbasari market, and the arrangement of the Tukad Badung to support the concept of a heritage city tour in Denpasar City. The philosophical concept used is tapak dara and padu raksa. The concept of values and architectural forms uses the Triangga, the Trimandala, the Sanga Mandala, and the Tri Hita Karana concepts. The forms of the entrance uses the bintang aring concept. It is combined with the kayon form as a symbol of balance, horizontal and vertical for human life. The concept of Balinese traditional architectural decoration uses bebadungan decorations. This research was with a qualitative exploratory method Researchers also found modernization towards more advanced changes with rational, effective, efficient, and economic principles. This is evidenced in the use ornaments made of Glass Reinforced Concrete, elevator facilities, and escalators. In addition, Badung market was designed to be more modern and universal with a children's play room, lactation room, emergency stairs, accessible toilets, and other facilities.

Abstract

There is a need to preserve areas with distinct identities by utilizing several local architectural potentials to develop their appearances. One example of this is in the Denpasar and Badung regions of Bali, where the use of peciren bebadungan ornaments is currently being applied to shape their respective identities. The peciren bebadungan is an expression of brick tectonics with strong, hard, and simple characteristics. However, it has been observed that the designs of some public building facades in Bali were produced without due consideration for the meaning and philosophy of these ornaments. Therefore, this research was conducted to examine and analyze the importance of the cultural value symbol expression associated with the peciren bebadungan in Bali using a qualitative exploration method. The findings showed the implementation of the style on several public buildings in Bali, specifically in Denpasar City and Badung Regency, in combination with contemporary designs. Some others also apply the style but with incomplete implementation and modification through a simpler and more minimalistic concept. This was observed to have eliminated the inherent meaning and cultural symbol value. Therefore, it is recommended that the government, architects, as well as the entire community, need to play a very important role in preserving the peciren bebadungan cultural value symbol expression.

Abstract

Title: The Design of Buildings and Restaurant Facilities that are Family Friendly and Relevant to the Urban Culture of Denpasar   The urban community's demand to bring families to visit restaurants is significantly high. The on-site phenomenon indicates that the building designs of several restaurants in Denpasar have not maximally met the needs of the urban community, especially for families. Therefore, research is required to analyze restaurants' facilities and building designs to align with the needs of families and urban culture in Denpasar. The method employed is a qualitative descriptive method. The research results showcase the case study objects of several favorite restaurants in Denpasar, indicating that some already meet the needs of the urban community but need to be adjusted to align with current needs. The findings show that some restaurants are not in line with urban culture due to insufficient attention to the needs of the urban community. Issues related to spatial completeness and arrangement, availability of specific facilities, furniture design, and cleanliness of facilities contribute to this mismatch. The solution is to consider standard design, space, and security to meet needs, provide specific facilities, and implement the concept of green design. The contribution provided is in the form of input to ensure that restaurants are designed to adapt to the evolving needs of the urban community.

Abstract

Many temples in Bali have been renovated without regard to their historical value, resulting in many new forms, ornaments, and materials even though the temple as a cultural heritage has cultural, social, and religious values. This research aimed to examine the reasons and process of restoring Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa (Village Temple) and Pura Puseh (Puseh Temple) of Denpasar Traditional Village and analyze the restoration implementation implications of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village. This research used qualitative methods through a case study and ethnographic approach. The results showed that the causal factors in Denpasar Traditional Village restoring Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh were due to a shared understanding of the importance of the traces and historical values in the temple building. It was outlined in the Perarem (rules) regarding the procedures for the temple repair process, and the community understands the importance of Denpasar’s identity value. The restoration stages and process of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village began with the planning process, identification of building form and damage, technical document preparations, procurement of construction workers, restoration implementation, and periodic supervision. The restoration process was accompanied by a series of Balinese Hindu ritual processes, namely Nuntun, Ngeruak, Mendem Pedagingan, Ngingsirang Pretime, and Ngeteg Linggih ceremonies. The restoration implications of Pemedal Agung and Penyengker in the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh of Denpasar Traditional Village could provide cultural significance, such as aesthetic, social, and religious values, with substantial cultural and symbolic capital.
