Abstract

Most fishing vessels in Indonesia use diesel engines as their driving force. Diesel engines are mechanical machines where component contact is unavoidable, so a lubricating system is absolutely necessary to reduce the level of component damage that intersects. The decrease lubricating system capability has an impact on engine damage. The purpose of this study is to identify the causes of damage to the diesel engine lubricating system for fishing vessels, making it easier to make decisions in carrying out maintenance and repairing lubricant systems. The method for identifying each possible failure occurs using a Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). PHA is a device to identify potential hazards that result in system failure, FTA is a device to identify the causes of system failure. FTA works by determining failures which are referred to as "top events", then the top event identifies the relationship of the factors causing various failure events with fault trees that use simple logic gates "and" and "or". The formation of an FTA can determine the factors causing failure with a minimum cut set. Based on the results of the analysis, there are three main causes of diesel engines failing because the lubricating system is the failure of lubricating system components namely internal leakage (screen lubricant + pressure alarm + manometer + officer), and (lubricating pump + pressure alarm + manometer + officer).

Abstract

The price of feed is one of the biggest contributors to production costs in fish farming. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide knowledge and skills on manufacturing independently fish pellet machines for the the tilapia farmer community in Klawasi village. The training is carried out by providing theoretical material about independent feed and pellet machine design as well as the practice of assembling pellet machine components and operating to test the performance of the pellet machine. The training was held at the Politeknik Kelutan dan Perikanan Sorong and was attended by 10 participants from the tilapia farmer community. The result of the training output is the production of two fish pellet machines that are ready to operate. The results of the satisfaction survey showed that 80% of participants strongly agreed about the good implementation of the training activities.

Abstract

Handwashing tool is one of the facilities that must be provided by places of worship as an effort to implement health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This community service aims to provide knowledge and skills to worshipers in places of worship to make handwashing tools independently. Service activities are carried out by providing training on the manufacture of pedal-type handwashing tools so that they can be applied at the GKI Immanuel church and the Nurul Salam mosque, Supra Village, Sorong City. The theory and practice of making handwashing tools were given to training participants at the Manufacturing Workshop, Politeknik Kelautan dan Perikanan Sorong. Pre and post-tests are used to evaluate the implementation of the training. The number of correct answers to the pre and post-test questions given to participants increased from 12.86% to 82.86%.

Abstract

Raam Island is a village located in the city of Sorong, West Papua Province which has several business groups for FRP boat craftsmen, especially for fishing purposes. The standard manufacturing process standards applied by fiber ship craftsmen make the quality of the fabrication results different from each existing shipyard. The socialization activity was carried out by presenting materials directly to shipyard owners and FRP ship craftsmen. BKI as a state-owned company engaged in survey services and ship certification has regulations related to ship construction. In 2020, BKI issued "Guidance for Certification of FRP Fishing Vessel less than 12 m" which is very suitable for the type of ship produced by ship craftsmen on Raam Island. FRP), ship structure design & FRP ship stability, machinery installation, electrical installation, and ship safety equipment. Evaluation is given by giving pre-test and post-test methods to see the progress of participants in understanding the material given. From 10 questions given in the post test, most of the participants have shown significant improvement when compared to the pre test.

Abstract

The lack of competence of Sorong Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic cadets in the field of drawing techniques is one of the causes of the low absorption of graduates in the field of engineering, where the Fisheries Mechanization study program has a curriculum syllabus that is suitable for various engineering industries such as shipbuilding, food processing machinery, ship machinery factories, fishing gear factory, pump factory. While the technical drawing courses taught in the fishery mechanization study program are still limited to manual drawings with paper, as well as tasks in other courses in the form of drawings are also still carried out by manual drawing processes, while technical drawings in industry require accuracy and speed which are difficult to rely on. manual drawing techniques. AutoCad software is one of the computer applications that is considered very effective as a tool in learning and improving students' understanding of technical drawing. Activation of the legal licensed AutoCAD software is expensive, so in this Community Service activity, the AutoCad free Student License activation is carried out, in addition to providing an increase in the soft skills of cadets. The stages of activities in this PKM are: computer inventory in the KP Sorong Polytechnic Computer laboratory, registering the official Autocad student version license for computers in the KP Sorong Polytechnic Computer laboratory, installation & activation of Autocad software on computers in the KP Sorong Polytechnic Computer laboratory, Autocad training for cadets Fisheries Mechanization Study Program KP Sorong Polytechnic, and evaluation of Autocad training for cadets of the Fisheries Mechanization Study Program at KP Sorong Polytechnic. The results achieved are the activation of the AutoCad software with a student license on 34 computers in the computer and telematics lab of the KP Sorong Polytechnic, as well as the improvement in the soft skills of cadets in making shop drawings that can be measured through evaluation, namely as many as 13 cadets passed the training with 8 cadets getting value over 75.

Abstract

Venturi-type generators are recognized as one of the most promising microbubble generators with potential in various fields. However, there is still room for further optimization of their performance to meet the requirements of real applications, such as aeration systems or water treatment applications. This research modified the geometry of a venturi-type generator with specific dimensions:  a length of 80 mm, an inside diameter of 26 mm, a throat diameter of 7.2 mm, a convergent nozzle angle of 30°, a divergent diffuser angle of 30°, and an airflow inlet diameter of 6 mm. By varying the water flow rates (i.e., 22 L/min, 26 L/min, and 30 L/min) and air flow rates (i.e., 0.1 L/min, 0.2 L/min, and 0.3 L/min), the study observed the average diameter, size distribution, Standard Oxygen Transfer Rate (SOTR), and Standard Aeration Efficiency (SAE) of the generated microbubbles. This study aims to improve the performance of a microbubble generator, particularly by optimizing the relative size, distribution, and main parameters for real applications. The proposed modification and optimization successfully produced microbubbles with an average diameter of 180-450 μm. Furthermore, the optimal combinations of water and air flow rates (i.e., 30 L/min of water and 0.1 L/min of air) produced approximately 60% of microbubbles with a diameter of no more than 200 μm. These combinations also enable the delivery of a SOTR and SAE values of 0.94 kgO2/h and 1.73 kgO2/kWh, respectively.
