Abstract

This article discusses the development of Syattariyah Sufi order as one of religious traditions in Aceh in the colonial era based on the manuscript of Muhammad Khatib Langien’s Mi‘rāj al-Sālikīn ilá Martabat al-Wāsilīn bi-Jāh Sayyid al-Mursalīn. The Syattariyah teachings in Mi‘rāj al-Sālikīn have proved the existence of Muhammad Khatib Langien in the Malay-archipelago world. In applying his teachings, Muhammad Khatib Langien has the different procedures than that one of  ‘Abd al-Raūf al-Fansuri. In addition to practical teachings, Muhammad Khatib Langien employs local symbols such as wearing skullcaps and turbans in the swear oath (bay‘ah) process. This tradition is meant to respond the foreign culture as well as to show the identity of each members of Syattariyah sufi order. It is proved that Muhammad Khatib Langien’s teachings that can be accepted by all people and groups even without having support from the local authorities at the time.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v20i3.515

Abstract

There are 2 manuscripts with the title Bustān As-Sālikīn at the Aceh State Museum, each with an inventory number of Manuscript Inv. 07.0065 (A) and the manuscript of Inv. 07.0807 (B). The purpose of this research is to produce text editing so that the text of the manuscript is read correctly and reveals its contents which are still very relevant to present and future life. The recent condition of manuscripts and the lack of research on the manuscripts are feared that the contents of the manuscripts will just be disappearing. The method used in this study is a combined method which includes an inventory of manuscripts, manuscript descriptions, text criticism, text editing, and a study of main ideas. The results of this study indicate that, firstly: from text editing, the text edition has been transliterated from Malay-Jawi Arabic letters to Latin script. Second: knowing clearly about the contents of the Bustān As-Sālikīn Manuscript which discusses the taṣawuf division which is divided into an opening, six chapters and a closing. Six chapters on purification of lust, educating children's behavior from an early age, elaboration and explanation of good behavior, people of the Tasawuf order, ways to fight lust, and finally the chapter on people who are deceived. The text also closes with a description of people who gain advantages by undergoing Taawuf tarekat by referring to the Tasawuf books.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

One of the 19th-century manuscripts written in Malay Arabic-Jawi that comprises the sufi knowledge is the Dawā’ul Qulūb manuscript. The primary concepts in the manuscript and the text modifications are the subjects of this study. Given that the manuscript contains multiple variant texts, the research strategy employs the philological method in conjunction with the foundational method approach. The two manuscripts used in this study, both of which were collections of the Aceh State Museum, were found after a search of the manuscripts turned up as many as four manuscript texts. The first manuscript, with inventory number 07.1430, was used as the basic manuscript, and the second, with inventory number 07.812, was used as a comparative text. Due of its higher quality and closer (older) age to the autograph text, text 07.1430 was picked. Nevertheless, moral illness and how to prevent it are the focus of this manuscript's main concept. According to the findings of this study, the Dawā’ul Qulūb manuscript, which contains Islamic teachings on sufism, contains two parts: first; corrected text with a critical edition, and second; knowing clearly and in detail the contents of the Dawā’ul Qulūb manuscript which contains Islamic teachings on the Sufism knowledge. Some of the sub-chapters contained in the manuscript include: immoral parts of body, immoral hearts, and obedient in the heart.
