Abstract

This research discusses the empowerment of literacy in thecommunity through street library containers during the Covid19 pandemic in Dolok Masihul District. The purpose of thisresearch is to build reading interest for all people consideringthe condition of the Indonesian society's level of literacy is stillrelatively low. The method in this research is using descriptivequalitative method. The results showed that the level of literacyand reading interest in Dolok Masihul was still low, and thepublic was not very enthusiastic about the existence of this street library.

Abstract

Salmonella sp and Escherichia coli are zoonotic pathogenic bacteria that can be found on beef. The presence of bacterial contamination on meat will impact the meat quality physical and in microbiological. The environment of the slaughter area is one of the factors causing Salmonella sp and Escherichia coli contamination in beef. The study aimed to determine the presence of Salmonella sp. and Escherichia coli contamination on meat from Slaughterhouses (RPH) and Medan Traditional Markets. Sampling was taken in 4 locations; RPH, and three traditional markets: Brayan, MMTC, and Central Market. Meat samples researched from October to December 2021 at Laboratorium Balai Penguji Penyidik Penyakit Balai Veteriner Regional Wilayah I. Data analysis used Paired Sample T-Test. The positive result of Salmonella spp contamination was found one a meat samples from Brayan Market. Meanwhile, Negative results of Salmonella spp contamination were found on meat samples from Slaughterhouse, MMTC Market, and Central Market. Furthermore, Escherichia coli is also found on almost all meat samples from RPH, and traditional markets.

Abstract

Biogas slurry, a byproduct of biogas technology, can be used as a source of soil organic matter such as manure. This study aimed to examine the effect of giving biogas slurry gas with the input of cow faeces and empty fruit bunches soaking water on the growth (plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, stem diameter and leaf width) of Indigofera zollingeriana. This study was conducted in the village Tadukan Raga, STM Hilir District, Deli Serdang Regency, using Indigofera Zollingeriana for three months. The design was completely randomized (CRD) with three treatments and six replications. The treatment consisted of P0 = control; P1 = 50% biogas slurry (180ml/polybag of plants) P2 = 100% biogas slurry (360ml/polybag of plants). Parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, leaf width, branches, and stem diameter. The results showed that the administration of biogas slurry gas at a dose of 100% (360 ml/polybag plant) had a significant effect on the number of leaves, a significant effect on leaf width, had an effect which had a significant on the number of leaves, had an insignificant effect on the number of branches and had a significant effect on stem diameter. The best results were the administration of biogas slurry in the Indigofera Zollingeriana plant the administration of a 100% slurry dose (360 ml/polybag of plants) in all treatments, namely plant height, number of leaves, leaf width, number of branches, stem diameter. Based on this, it can be suggested that biogas slurry fertilizer can be used as liquid organic fertilizer to increase the productivity of Indigofera Zollingeriana plants

Abstract

Salmonella sp. can contaminate layer chicken eggs and cause salmonellosis. This study aims to determine whether there is contamination by Salmonella sp. in layer chicken eggs traded in traditional markets of Medan  Johor District. Sampling locations were determined by purposive sampling, including Kwala Bekala Market, Johor Market, and Tikung Market, with 90 samples. The working procedures included isolating bacteria from egg yolks using the pour plate method on SSA media, observing the bacteria morphology, calculating total Salmonella sp. colonies, Gram staining, and biochemical tests. The research results obtained indicated that the average total colonies of Salmonella sp. in Kwala Bekala Market were 1.45 x 105 CFU/g, in Johor Market they were 5.8 x 104 CFU/g, and in Tikung Market they were 3.6 x 104 CFU/g. The colony morphology of Salmonella sp. is circular and colourless, with a black spot in the center. The Salmonella sp. bacteria are Gram-negative with a red color, and are bacilli. Biochemical tests showed indole (-), MR (+), VP (-), SCA (+), and TSIA (+) test results. Based on the study results, it can be concluded that 4.44% of the positive samples were contaminated with Salmonella sp. in the traditional market of Medan Johor District and exceeded the BMCM in SNI 7388:2009.

Abstract

Kelompok Tani Suka Maju di Kecamatan Tiga Panah, Kabupaten Karo, mengelola usaha pertanian dan peternakan kambing secara tradisional. Kelompok Tani Suka Maju menghadapi kendala utama dalam pengelolaan pakan ternak, yang menyebabkan produktivitas kambing rendah dan rentan terhadap penyakit. Kondisi ini berdampak negatif pada pendapatan peternak hingga menyebabkan kerugian. Selain itu, keterbatasan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam manajemen usaha peternakan dan teknologi serta akses informasi masih terbatas menjadi hambatan dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan anggota kelompok. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah meningkatkan produktivitas ternak, keterampilan dan kesejahteraan peternak melalui pengelolaan pakan berbasis teknologi dan ilmu pengetahuan. Metode yang digunakan pada pengabdian masyarakat ini meliputi pelatihan, demonstrasi, diskusi kelompok, dan pendampingan. Pelatihan yang dilaksanakan berupa pembuatan complete feed dengan teknologi fermentasi jerami sisa hasil pertanian dan Phytobiotic green additive menggunakan tanaman herbal. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan setelah pelatihan dan pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat. Peternak dapat menerapkan teknologi phytobiotic green additive maupun complete feed sehingga meningkatkan produktivitas kambing secara berkelanjutan. Keterampilan dan pengetahuan peternak juga meningkat sehingga berdampak positif pada pendapatan dan kesejahteraan anggota Kelompok Tani Suka Maju.

Abstract

Fermentation is one way to lower tannin levels and improve nutritional quality. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of fermentation time and various rumen liquids on the nutrient content and tannins of Calliandra leaves. In this study, two factors were used, namely Factor 1 of fermentation time (L1:0 day, L2: 7 days, L3: 14 days) and Factor 2 of various types of rumen liquids (C1: sheep, C2: cattle), which were compiled in a Factorial Complete Random Design. The factors observed were crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, and tannins. Based on the results, the interaction of Calliandra leaves fermentation using different fermentation time and rumen liquid had a very real influence (P<0.01) on the average value of crude protein (20.03-25.13%), crude fiber (9.27-12.84%), crude fat (0.97-1.80%), and tannins (23.22–36.65 TAE mg/g). Based on the results of this study, C1L3 and C2L3 which have crude protein content of 22.18% and 25.13%, respectively, crude fiber content of 9.84% and 11.44%, and crude fat content of 1.80% and 1.25% are the most ideal treatment combinations. However, with tannin levels of 2.32% and 3.19%, sheep rumen liquid has been proven to be more successful in reducing tannin levels than bovine rumen liquid.
