Abstract

INTRUDUCTION: The main cause of dental and oral health problems is periodontal disease. This desease is caused by bacteria that accumulate in dental plaque. It necessary to prevent the plaque, according to some research states that essential oils can increase the activity of inhibition of plaque. Oil astsiri contained in many plants, one of them in guava leave. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of rinsing with guava leaf water to plaque formation. Abstract

Dental caries is the most common disease experienced by Indonesian people, especially in 12-year-olds who already have completely permanent teeth, and 12-year-old children are designated as the global monitoring age for caries. Purpose of the study to find out the description of dental caries experience in grade VII students at SMPN 1 Nagari Koto Tangah, Tilatang Kamang District, Agam Regency. A type of quantitative research with a descriptive design. The research population is all grade VII students of SMPN 1 Tilatang Kamang totaling 122 people. The sampling technique is a saturated sample, that is, the entire population is used as a sample. Data collection through direct examination. The data analysis used univariate analysis. The results of the study obtained a DMF-T index based on age, namely the bad criteria at the age of 13 years of 53%, while the DMF-T index with good criteria was also at the age of 12 years of 70%. Based on gender, the DMF-T index is 57% bad criteria for females, while the DMF-T index is good criteria for males at 70%. The average DMF-T index of 122 respondents in class VII at SMPN 1 Tilatang Kamang was 1.56 with poor criteria. The conclusion of this study is that grade VII students of SMPN 1 Tilatang Kamang have an average DMF-T index of 1.56 with poor criteria. Respondents were advised to reduce the habit of consuming sweet and sticky foods, and to apply the habit of gargling after consuming sweet and sticky foods. Filling cavities.

Abstract

Dental caries is a disease affecting the hard tissues of teeth, impacting overall health. Brushing teeth is a crucial effort to reduce the growth of caries-causing bacteria. This study aims to analyze the relationship between tooth brushing frequency and caries status among students at SMP Negeri 1 Batipuh, Tanah Datar. A descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted in January 2023, involving 186 students as the population through saturated sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire on tooth brushing frequency and DMF-T examination for caries status. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. Results indicate that 23% of students brushed their teeth once a day, 62% twice a day, and 15% three times a day. Regarding caries status, 64% had good criteria while 36% had poor criteria. Analysis revealed that students who brushed once daily had 2% with good status and 21% with poor status; those brushing twice daily had 48% good and 14% poor; and those brushing three times daily had 14% good and 1% poor. The conclusion of this study is that the most common brushing frequency is twice a day, and students with this frequency tend to have better caries status.
