Abstract

: The diversity of ethnicities, culture and language in Indonesia is the reality of history and socio-cultural. Concerning the phenomenon, this paper explores some issues on teacher's role in building togetherness in multicultural and multilingual education applied in elementary school. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive. And the data will be analyzed by using the Miles and Huberman technique (reduction, display, verification). The research informants were a girl student of the fourth class, teachers, and the headmaster of SDIT Lukmanul Hakim Langsa, Aceh. The findings suggest that the teachers of SDIT Lukmanul Hakim Langsa understood the students' needs, and they were able to build students' togetherness in their class and school environment. From its understanding of multilingual education, it can be found that an Arabic teacher knew the children's needs for the initial stage of multilingual education, especially considering students' ages 7 to 12 years. Therefore, the teacher used the game learning to attract the students needs and attention. They are natives in their mother tongue (L1) and Bahasa Indonesia as the national language (L2). Furthermore, multilingual education has been implemented in this SDIT concerning its importance and relation to the existing values for future development. Keywords: The role of teachers, multicultural, multilingual education

Abstract

In Indonesia, multilingualism is a common phenomenon, where individuals regularly switch between multiple languages and dialects in their daily communication. Within this multilingual environment, people often learn several words from their second (L2) or third (L3) language alongside their native tongue (L1). This study aims to investigate the primary linguistic features affected by interlingual interference among multilingual learners at IAIN Langsa and how the principles of Optimality Theory can help explain the observed patterns of interlingual interference in the language learning processes of these students, specifically those in the Arabic Education Department. To address these questions, the research focuses on the language spoken by multilingual learners proficient in Acehnese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Arabic at IAIN Langsa. Data collection involved fieldwork, interviews, and recordings, with five students as the research subjects. The study results indicate that interlingual interference has a multifaceted impact on multilingual learners in the Arabic Education Department at IAIN Langsa. The findings demonstrate that Acehnese phonology influences the development of Arabic words. This is evident in how Acehnese-Arabic speakers modify the final phoneme /d/ to /t/ in three words: [a.had] becomes [a.hat], [ah.mad] becomes [ah.mat], and [mau.lid] changes to [mo.lit]. Multilingual learners may transfer pronunciation patterns, intonation, and accent elements from their native languages into the target language, resulting in pronunciation difficulties and challenges in acquiring the phonological system of the target language.

Abstract

This paper attempts to determine the account of the irresistible lexical items used in online media, examine the pedagogical strategies that impacted the cycle of the psychological expressions, and generalize the media's applications attracted to the learners' intentions through the features of irresistible lexical items. The researchers used qualitative descriptive with several techniques, including collecting data from Urdu speakers (participants) who used the irresistible lexical items in language teaching. And then, after reading newspapers, magazines, gadgets, books, journals, etc., the researchers generalized the ideas and concepts of the learners. The account of the irresistible lexical items' pedagogical relevance in online media could improve the Urdu speakers and affect the pedagogical levels, particularly in speaking. The pedagogical structure shapes the teachers' actions, judgments, and other teaching strategies and considers the learners' needs, backgrounds, and understanding. In addition, Language teaching adopts the linguistic framework of the lexical items and affects the medium of communication. Even similar words may be present in its language, affecting the pedagogical structure of language teaching.

Abstract

This study mainly focuses on investigating the devoicing phenomenon happening in Indonesian language. There are nine words selected as the sample of the study: [akad], [jilid], [wujud], [kutub], [sebab], [tertib], [caleg], [dialog], and [warteg]. All these words involve voiced stop consonants including bilabial /b/, alveolar /d/, and velar /g/ at coda position (final word). Ten participants from different age and gender were selected as participants, they subsequently produced the words and the data of their vocalizations were transcribed and analyzed using Praat software. Praat was used to bring the data of pitch (frequency), duration, and intensity. The result of the data suggests that the participant experienced the phonological process called devoicing while pronouncing the words. The words which in the first place involve voiced stop consonants, turn into voiceless stop consonants /p/, /t/, /k/ respectively. To give phonological explanation of devoicing, generative phonology and optimality theory were used. Generative phonology was used to show the changing process from level of representation to the surface level of representation as well as to formulate the phonological rule for the devoicing process. Meanwhile, optimality theory was used to describe the input and output for each word. Keywords: devoicing; generative phonology; optimality theory; stop consonants
