Abstract

This paper presents a metaheuristic method, namely Equilibrium Optimizer (EO) to solve the economic dispatch (ED) problem. The main objective function to be achieved is to minimize the total fuel costs of all generating units to meet the total load demand and to satisfy various operating constraints. Three case studies are used to test the effectiveness of the EO method in solving ED problems, they are three generators case, six generators case, and fifteen generators case. The simulation of solving ED problems using the EO method is implemented using MATLAB software and is carried out 30 times for each case study. The results of EO method are compared with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) methods. The simulation results show that the EO method can solve the ED problem more optimal than all other comparison methods for all the case studies by producing the minimum total fuel costs.

Abstract

Abstract

Solar power plants (PLTS) are one of the renewable energy plants that continue to be developed in Indonesia to meet electrical energy needs. The Indonesian government issued the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) as a national energy management framework designed to resolve energy needs challenges and problems by utilizing new renewable energy sources (EBT). In the construction of a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at PT. Quick Print Office built PLTS with a capacity of 20.5 kWp which is used for the electrical energy needs used by PT. Quick Print Office with a total power of 10 kWp, generator system with an on grid system which means it is directly connected to the PLN network. In the feasibility study, the performance ratio (PR) obtained from manual calculations for inverter 1 was 71.9% and inverter 2 was 26.2%. Meanwhile, to improve the performance ratio of the PLTS system, maintenance of the PLTS system is required, starting from cleaning the panels or checking the cable installation on the PLTS. For the calculation results, the efficiency on inverter 1 was 94.6% and on inverter 2 the efficiency was 90.8% when measured at 11.18 – 14.53.

Abstract

Long high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link is commonly used to transmit electrical energy via land or under-sea cable. The long HVDC avoids reactive power losses (RPL) and power stability problems (PSP). On the contrary, the RPL and PSP phenomena occur in long high voltage alternative current-link (HVAC) caused by the high reactive component in the HVAC-link. However, the HVDC produces a high and slow transient current response (TCR) on the high value of the up-ramp rate. Interval type-2 fuzzy (IT2F) control on converter-side HVDC is proposed to mitigate this TCR problem. The IT2F is optimized by grey wolf optimizer (GWO) to adjust input-output IT2F parameters optimally. The performance of IT2F-GWO is assessed by the minimum value of integral time squared error (ITSE), peak overshoot, and settling time of the TCR. The IT2FC-GWO performance is validated by the performance of IT2F control that is optimized by genetic algorithm (IT2F-GA) and proportional integral (PI) controller. Simulation results show that the IT2F-GWO performs better with small ITSE, low peak overshoot, and shorter settling times than competing controllers.

Abstract

Abstract

The use of photovoltaic-battery energy storage systems to meet the electrical energy needs of house while reducing the cost of using electricity from the grid is increasing. Optimization of this system can be performed by optimizing the energy consumption of solar panels and batteries. This paper presents the optimization of solar panels and battery systems to minimize the cost of using electricity from the grid. Circuit models and mathematical formulations of grid-connected solar panel and battery systems were created for optimization purposes. The optimization problem is solved by using mixed-integer linear programming and Pyomo software based on the Python programming language. Data on household electricity consumption and output power from two solar panels with a capacity of 100 Wp and 200 Wp respectively were obtained from the results of simultaneous measurements for one month. The test results show that the optimization of the solar panel and battery system can reduce the cost of electricity consumption at home with optimal energy consumption from solar panels and batteries.

Abstract

The varying levels of voltage and reactive power can affect the amount of active power losses in the power distribution network. Therefore, optimization of voltage and reactive power values needs to be done to reduce the amount of active power losses while improving the voltage profile at each bus. This paper presents the optimization of voltage and reactive power in the distribution network using the alternating direct method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. Optimization with the ADMM algorithm is carried out by separating the optimization of continuous variables and discrete/integer variables for each iteration and implemented by simulation using MATLAB software. The case study used is the Rayap feeder distribution network at the Metro substation, Lampung Province. The simulation results show that optimization of voltage and reactive power can reduce active power losses from 37.44 kW before optimization to 34.78 kW and improve the voltage profile at each bus from a minimum voltage value of 0.9713 per unit before optimization to 0.9734 per unit. The optimal tap position of the load tap changer obtained is 17 while the capacity position of the two capacitor banks is 400 kVAR each.
