The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of the Bromo effect on the economy of the Sukapura community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected by means of observation, participatory deep-interview, and documentation. The technique of selecting sample informants in this study was determined by purposive sampling procedure. The data analysis technique includes steps, namely: data processing, data analysis, and interpretation of the results of data analysis. The research findings explain that the economy of the Sukapura community, which depends on the Bromo tourism sector, experienced a recession during the COVID-19 pandemic. Livelihood income in the tourism sector has decreased due to the closure of tourist destinations due to PPKM regulations by the government. However, the impact of COVID-19 does not necessarily make the people of Sukapura surrender. As a positive effect of the covid-19 pandemic, they are becoming more creative in marketing souvenirs, t-shirts, or souvenirs typical of Bromo through e-commerce. This proves that the Bromo Effect still applies to local communities despite the pandemic conditions and almost no tourist visits. Thus it can be concluded that in general the phenomenon of the COVID-19 pandemic affects the economic condition of the Sukapura community.
