Abstract

Stunting remains one of the major chronic nutritional issues in Indonesia. According to the 2021 Indonesia Nutrition Status Study (SSGI), the national stunting prevalence reached 24.4%, while in West Sumatra Province it was recorded at 25.2% in 2022. Although Padang City showed a significant decrease to 3.7% based on 2023 e-PPGBM data, continuous intervention is still necessary. Various socioeconomic factors such as parental education, family income, number of children, and household size have been shown to influence the incidence of stunting. However, spatial-based approaches to analyze the distribution of stunting cases at the local level remain limited. This study aims to map and analyze the spatial pattern of stunting in Padang City using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This method enables a geographic visualization of case distribution, supporting more targeted policy decisions. The findings of this study are expected to provide accurate spatial data to strengthen integrated and sustainable efforts in stunting prevention in urban areas.

Abstract

Mount Marapi is one of the active volcanoes in West Sumatra, which erupted on December 3, 2023, followed by heavy rainfall that triggered a cold lava flood. This event caused damage to land, infrastructure, and vegetation around Sungai Pua Subdistrict, Agam Regency. This study aims to analyze vegetation density changes before and after the lahar event and to map the affected areas using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, applying the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and spatial overlay methods. The results show a decrease in very dense vegetation from 623.127 ha (42.38%) to 199.095 ha (13.54%), and an increase in poor vegetation from 354.269 ha (24.09%) to 551.566 ha (37.50%). The total vegetation density change reached 734.03 ha out of 1,470.32 ha. Identification of affected areas also indicates that the lahar spread along river channels from the summit to the slopes, with an affected area of 110.832 ha. These areas include agricultural land, plantations, and settlements along the riverbanks that were damaged by volcanic materials.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level and typology of Urban Sprawl in Padang City in 2024 using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The continuous growth of the population, along with the expansion of economic and social activities within the community, has become a major factor driving the uncontrolled expansion of urban areas toward the city’s outskirts. This phenomenon is generally characterized by increasing population density, a growing number of new buildings, changes in road network patterns, and shifts in land use from non-urban areas to built-up areas. This study utilizes several types of data, including population data, building data, new building data, the location of the city center, and road network data for the year 2024, which are analyzed spatially. The analytical method is conducted through scoring and classification techniques to identify the spatial distribution patterns of urban development and to determine three typologies of Urban Sprawl, namely low, medium, and high levels.

Abstract

West Pasaman Regency has varied topography that influences land surface temperature (LST) distribution. This study analyzes LST patterns and compares estimates from Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 imagery in 2024 using a quantitative remote sensing approach via Google Earth Engine. LST was derived from thermal infrared bands, while vegetation influence was assessed using NDVI and Pearson correlation. Results show uneven temperature distribution affected by topography, vegetation cover, and land use. Landsat 9 produced slightly higher average temperatures (±30–38 °C) than Landsat 8 (±26–32 °C). A strong correlation was found between both datasets, with a negative correlation between NDVI and LST, indicating that denser vegetation corresponds to lower surface temperatures. Both satellites are suitable for LST analysis, with Landsat 9 showing higher sensitivity.

Abstract

Planning villa development in complex topographic areas requires accurate and detailed terrain information to ensure safety, construction efficiency, and environmental sustainability. This study aims to utilize LiDAR data to generate a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and conduct slope analysis to support villa development planning in Budo Village, Wori District, North Minahasa Regency. The research employed a quantitative applied approach using LiDAR point cloud data processed through classification, filtering, and interpolation to produce a DTM, followed by slope analysis using GIS. The results show that the study area has elevation variations between ±73 and ±173 meters above sea level with a vertical RMSE accuracy of 0.487 meters, classified as very good. Slope classification indicates that flat (0–8%) and gentle (8–15%) areas dominate the central region and are highly suitable for villa development due to low geotechnical risk and minimal earthwork requirements.
