Abstract

There are four skills in English and one of the skills that students think is very difficult is speaking. Speaking is the skill that needs more practice and exercise, otherwise speaking fluency cannot be improved. Teacher needs to use different teaching techniques in order to reach all students effectively. The objective of this research is to see whether the method in teaching Speaking English by using the group work technique has a positive effect on the academic achievement of the students at Polytechnic ATIM (ATI Makassar), especially for Agro Industrial Engineering students who studied at the second grade. This research was carried out through class action research where teacher gives some materials, apply the method, then give direct testing such as written test to find out how far students understand about the materials after they discussed in group. It is one of the assessment materials. Others assessments are taken from groups’ activities in class room, groups’ presentation, Individual’s interview test and questionnaire. This technique plays a positive role in improving the academic achievement in speaking. The technique can also improve students’ motivation in learning English; develop their Self-confidence and cooperation among students. The finding from questionnaire proves that this method can also be used to improve students’ mastery of grammar in use and motivate students in learning grammar. The method promotes learner autonomy by allowing students to make their own decision in the group without being told what to do by the teacher.

Abstract

Regional languages affect the way a person speaks English, for example in the aspect of pronunciation, especially for English teachers. This refers to the speaker seeing the difference between sound and speech. Buginese and Makassarese are tribes with strong accents. Therefore, this study aims to identify what things appear when speaking English from the influence of the Buginese language in an English course in Makassar City. This research adopts a qualitative case study. Data analysis was collected based on four phases, namely sample data collection, data presentation, data verification and data processing. This shows that teachers are usually influenced by regional languages when speaking English and in daily conversation. Qualitative research is to understand the meaning of the individual and the group environment.The results of the study show that the errors that often occur are the omission of elements in language such as grammar, conjunctions, etc. English teachers must know that their first language can affect their pronunciation when speaking English, and they must get used to getting used to good English pronunciation.

Abstract

English language lesson in elementary schools plays a crucial role in the development of children's English language and critical thinking abilities, as well as their creativity and self-assurance. The teaching and learning process at school or online now heavily depends on technology, including digital learning media that continue to expand and supplant traditional media such as books. Using interactive multimedia is one way to improve the efficacy of English learning, so the purpose of this study is to develop learning media with English material for the introduction of fruit vocabulary for elementary school students, which will facilitate the delivery and absorption of learning materials. To attract the attention of elementary school pupils, the interactive multimedia development method employs the Model Development Life Cycle (MDLC) with a minimalist and straightforward concept. The overall test results indicate that interactive multimedia learning English, particularly material about fruits, can be an option for students and instructors to support learning at school, and that the composition of the material is consistent with the school's curriculum. Having access to alternative learning media enables elementary school students to learn independently, enhance their skills, and meet school learning objectives.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang sistem kontrol lampu secara wireless dan real time menggunakan internet of things (IoT). Sistem ini terdiri dari perangkat keras berupa microcontroller NodeMCU, relay dan lampu, serta perangkat lunak berupa teknologi IoT berbasis platform Blynk. Pengujian dari sistem ini menggunakan smartphone android, Google Pixel 3a, sebagai perangkat untuk penginstalan aplikasi Blynk IoT platform. Adapun koneksi internet yang digunakan yaitu WiFi indihome dan paket data seluler dari kartu XL. Hasil dari pengujian sistem kontrol lampu berbasis IoT ini kemudian dibandingkan dengan sistem kontrol lampu menggunakan teknologi wireless lain, yaitu bluetooth, LAN dan Telegram. Perbandingan ini meliputi kontrol dari segi jangkauan area, kecepatan akses, dan biaya koneksi perangkat. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa lampu dapat dikontrol secara wireless dan realtime dengan menggunakan teknologi Blynk IoT. Terdapat berbagai keunggulan dengan menggunakan teknologi ini meliputi kontrol dengan jangkauan area tanpa batas selama ada akses internet, kecepatan akses yang realtime, tampilan pengguna yang menarik serta cara penggunaan yang mudah.

Abstract

Penyangraian kopi merupakan salah satu proses pengolahan biji kopi untuk pemilihan aroma rasa pada biji kopi. Permasalahan yang ada yaitu sumber panas yang belum efisien dalam proses penyangraian pada masyarakat setempat terutama di kecamatan Mappedeceng, Luwu Utara. Perancangan alat ini guna mengatasi permasalahan menurunnya kualitas biji kopi saat proses penyangraian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang alat penyangraian kopi dengan sumber panas infrared. Metode analisis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Metode penelitian ini dengan membuat gambar alat menggunakan Autodesk Inventor dengan ukuran-ukuran yang telah ditentukan. Hasil infrared ini lebih efisian dari segi waktu 31 menit, warna coklat tua, rasa yang tidak terlalu pahit dan menghasilkan aroma kopi yang harum jika dibandingkan dengan proses manual.

Abstract

Helical ribbon adalah salah satu jenis pengaduk yang berfungsi untuk mencampur atau mengaduk suatu bahan dengan bahan lainnya. Proses pembuatan helical ribbon mixer sebelumnya masih menggunakan cara manual dengan penggunaan material yang tidak ekonomis karena menyisakan banyak material yang terbuang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang suatu alat bantu berupa mesin roll bending dalam membentuk bilah pengaduk yang akan memudahkan proses pembentukan bilah dan mengefisienkan material yang di gunakan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental yaitu membuat alat dan menguji langsung pada objek. Pada hasil perancangan alat diperoleh daya pengerolan sebesar 0,81 HP dengan putaran roller penahan sebesar 23,67 rpm. Terdapat 1 roller penekan dan 2 roller penahan yang masing-masing digerakkan oleh poros berdameter 32 mm dengan jarak antar roller penahan sebesar 20 cm. Mesin bending roller di rancang untuk menghasilkan diameter maksimal bilah pengaduk sebesar 660 mm dengan dimensi maksimal pelat yang dapat di bending yakni lebar 25 mm dengan ketebalan 2 mm. kinerja optimal dari mesin dari hasil pengujian pada putaran ulir penekan sebesar ½ putan setiap siklus penekanan.

Abstract

Tujuan dari pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu siswa mengembangkan kemampuan bercakap (speaking) mereka dengan menggunakan metode Role-play (bermain peran). Pengabdian Masyarakat ini dikemas dalam bentuk proses pengajaran selama lima pertemuan dengan melibatkan Siswa kelas 2 SMP SIT Ikhtiar. Pelaksanaan Program pengajaran ini juga untuk mengetahui apakah metode roleplay dalam pengajaran percakapan (Speaking) bahasa Inggris memiliki pengaruh positif pada peningkatan kemampuan bercakap Siswa SMP IT Ikhtiar. Penggunaan Metode ini juga diharapkan dapat membantu membangun rasa percaya diri Siswa saat bercakap dengan berbagai situasi yang berbeda. Setelah pelaksanaan Program Mengajar selama lima pertemuan dan pelaksanaan Pre Test dan Post -Test, diperoleh hasil yang signifikan. Metode Ropel–Play dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam bercakap bahasa Inggris serta membangun memotivasi mereka,dan menjadi sebuah metode efektif dalam mengajarkan percakapan Bahasa Inggris, khususnya mereka yang agak kurang. Metode ini juga mampu meningkatkan rasa percaya diri mahasiswa. Metode ini juga mampu membuat mahasiswa aktif berbicara karena tertarik pada peran – peran yang dikemas dalam bentuk percakapan singkat dan sederhana.

Abstract

The ability to speak English is crucial in today's globalized era, especially for vocational students in agro-industrial engineering. However, traditional teaching methods often fail to develop speaking skills effectively, leading to low confidence and motivation among students. Constructivist theories emphasize active student involvement and real-life simulations as effective learning approaches. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the role-playing simulation method in improving the English-speaking skills of Agro-Industrial Engineering students at Politeknik ATI Makassar. A quasi-experimental research design with a mixed-method approach was employed. The participants were 30 second-semester students. Data were collected through speaking tests (Test 1, Test 2, Test 3), observation sheets, and interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Cohen's d for effect size. The research involved six meetings with various business communication scenarios. The average speaking test scores significantly increased from 66.67 (Test 1) to 75.03 (Test 2) and 81.27 (Test 3). Cohen's d values indicated a medium effect for Test 1 vs Test 2 (d=0.72) and Test 2 vs Test 3 (d=0.61), and a large effect for Test 1 vs Test 3 (d=1.29). Students showed increased confidence, motivation, and active participation, with more intelligent students assisting their peers. The role-playing simulation method significantly improved English-speaking skills, confidence, and motivation among agro-industrial engineering students. This method provides a practical and effective alternative to conventional teaching, aligning with constructivist learning principles and preparing students for industry needs. Future research should explore this method in different contexts with larger sample sizes
