Abstract

Weight and percentage of the carcass are very important in beef cattle production because they are economic parameters, which describe the number of parts that can be consumed. This study aimed to determine the effect of mutations in R25C and R25H in the Leptin gene on slaughter weight, carcass weight, and carcass percentage of Rancah and Ongole Grade cattle. The secondary data used were 4 genotypes in Rancah cattle, namely CC, CT, CA, and TT respectively, 6, 2, 4, and 2 heads, and 3 genotypes in Ongole Grade cattle, namely CC, CT, and CA, respectively. 4, 2, and 1 head. The data on slaughter weight, carcass weight, and carcass percentage were 14 males of Rancah cattle aged 1.5 – 2.5 years, while data for PO cattle were obtained from 7 males of Ongole Grade 1.5 years old. Parameters measured were slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that genetic diversity in Rancah and PO cattle due to the R25C and R25H mutations in the Leptin gene was not differences in slaughter weight, carcass weight, and carcass percentage.

Abstract

Local beef is known for its low-fat content/lean meat. The fatty acid profile of beef could affect the meat quality, related to its texture, taste, and nutritional value. This study aims to determine the fatty acid profile of Rancah and Ongole Grade beef. This study used fourteen samples of meat from Rancah cattle 1.5 – 2.5 years, which were extensively reared with forage feed, and nine samples of Ongole Grade beef with forage and concentrate feeding as much as 2.5% dry matter of body weight.  A fatty acid profile was analyzed from the longissimus dorsi muscle area, between the 12th and 13th ribs. The fatty acid profiles identified are saturated and unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA and PUFA). The fatty acid analysis used is the Gas Chromatography (GCMS) method. The data were analyzed descriptively and fatty acid composition differences of Rancah and Ongole grade beef were analyzed by T-test. The results showed that the fatty acid composition of Rancah and Ongole grade beef is relatively the same as the beef of other breeds. Saturated fatty acid in Ongole Grade beef is higher than Rancah beef, but the content of unsaturated fatty acids, PUFA/MUFA: SFA ratio in Rancah beef is higher than Ongole Grade.

Abstract

Domba Garut adalah plasma nutfah tatar Sunda bernilai ekonomi dan budaya. Penelitian telah dilaksanakan dengan tujuan mempelajari efek diluar aspek genetik pengaruhnya kepada karakteristik pertumbuhan domba Garut pada pemeliharaan secara intensif. Sejumlah 320 data dari UPD-BPPTD Margawati Garut periode tahun 2020-2021 yang terdiri dari berat lahir, berat sapih, pertambahan berat badan, tipe lahir, jenis kelamin, tahun dan musim kelahiran digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Analisis data menggunakan model general linier dengan taraf nyata sebesar 0,05. Disimpulkan bahwa berat lahir, berat sapih dan pertambahan berat badan prasapih pada domba Garut dipengaruhi oleh aspek diluar genetik (P < 0,05).
