Abstract

Takfir is an ideology of excommunicating fellow Muslims because of having different beliefs or expressing a different point of view. This article deals with the development of the takfir doctrine which separates some groups not only based on theological aspects but also on socio-political aspects, such as justifying the democratic system or collaborating with enemies of Islam. It particularly addresses the question of how Ayman al-Zawahiri globalized the takfir doctrine as a campaign against secularism, capitalism, human rights, and environmental crisis, in order to invite local jihadist groups to fight together in a global sphere.

Abstract

This research departs from the empirical-epistemological fact that there are ideas about fear stored in memory that do not originate from any experience. This fact is based on data that researchers obtained through observations of people who are fear of heights and depths of water. From these empirical facts, two basic assumptions result, firstly, the idea of fear comes from impulses in the mind itself before experiencing it. Second, the idea of fear comes from sensations or impressions after experiencing it. From the differences between these two basic assumptions, there has also become an academic debate around epistemologies that separates Cartesian rationalism and Humean empiricism. For the Cartesian group, ideas originate from consciousness (cogito) as part of the activity and impulse of the mind so that the truth is clear and distinct. This means that the ideas in the mind itself are clear and distinct. Meanwhile, for the Humean group, ideas originate from copies of certain impressions as part of experience activities so that they are clearer and more alive. This means that ideas in the mind themselves are vague because they are copies of impressions. From the academic debate between the two major groups in the philosophy of knowledge, which helps researchers to clarify the idea of fear stored in memory.

Abstract

This passage presents arguments for the existence of an afterlife grounded in rational reasoning and supported by sacred scriptures, aiming to strengthen the faith of religious believers. However, it acknowledges that these arguments may not satisfy adherents of agnosticism and atheism, who often counter them with various reasons. Nevertheless, for the consideration of atheists, the hypothetical scenario is proposed: if there were no Day of Judgment, both religious adherents and atheists would be equally safe, with no loss on either side. Conversely, if the Day of Judgment does indeed occur, believers would be saved while atheists would not, altering the outcome significantly in favor of theism.

Master Chin Kung’s contribution to advocating for peace and interfaith dialogue is significant. He is not only a religious leader for the Buddhist faith but also serves as a role model for followers of other religions due to his steadfastness in promoting the universal values of religion. He believes that the goal of all religions is the same, which is to realize peace and compassion among all believers. As a result, Master Chin Kung, who has been awarded an honorary doctorate from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, tirelessly urges world leaders to prioritize peaceful approaches over war. His extensive travels across five continents further drive him to continue advancing peace and harmony among religious communities. He firmly believes that religious education is the gateway to instilling greater love for peace and compassion in individuals. Therefore, he has established various institutions and foundations aimed at disseminating the universal values of religion. Among the foundations he has established is the Multi Culture Society in Jakarta. This foundation is highly active in organizing interfaith dialogue activities and multi-faith education.
