Abstract

This article discusses Ibn Sina’s concept of love. Through this concept, the researcher wants to show that Ibn Sina's thought is not only identical to empirical, logical, and rational peripatetic philosophy, but also Sufistic. This study employed a qualitative method using a philosophical tasawwuf approach. The results show that everything that exists – whether animate or not – contains the energy of love in itself. Essentially, love is a manifestation of Allah, The Essence, who has qualities of Absolute Goodness and Perfection. In this case, God is The Subject of Love. Second, God as Absolute Goodness and Perfection is The Object of Love–the final destination movement of all that exists. Finally, through true love, people can be connected with their God, occupy the highest position, and achieve true happiness. According to Ibn Sina, humans in this stage are called Arif.

Abstract

This passage presents arguments for the existence of an afterlife grounded in rational reasoning and supported by sacred scriptures, aiming to strengthen the faith of religious believers. However, it acknowledges that these arguments may not satisfy adherents of agnosticism and atheism, who often counter them with various reasons. Nevertheless, for the consideration of atheists, the hypothetical scenario is proposed: if there were no Day of Judgment, both religious adherents and atheists would be equally safe, with no loss on either side. Conversely, if the Day of Judgment does indeed occur, believers would be saved while atheists would not, altering the outcome significantly in favor of theism.

Abstract

In religion, there are at least two variables, namely ‘fanaticism’ and ‘extremism’, which can be analyzed into four groups: first, non-extreme fanatics; second, extreme fanatics; third, non-fanatics but extreme; fourth, neither fanatics nor extreme. The focus of this paper is on religious fanaticism without extremism and efforts to realize it. Fanaticism here refers to devout and obedient religious attitudes in performing worship, which are manifested in individual and social life. Meanwhile, extremism in this context refers to a more literal, ideological, and exclusive religious attitude. This exclusivity can ultimately lead to religious communalism and the politicization of religion, so that what emerges is not the true essence of religion, but a religion that has been wrapped in the ideology of certain political parties and ethnicities. The root of the problem of extremism is not only in terms of religion, but also politics, economics, social issues, and so on.

Abstract

Before discussing the role and challenges of religion in the era of science and technology, it is essential to examine the historical relationship between religion and science in human civilization. The evolution of human civilization has been shaped by the interplay of various values, including those of science and religion. Throughout history, new scientific discoveries have often sparked social upheaval, as societies struggle to reconcile novel findings with existing beliefs. This paper explores key historical moments of tension and adaptation between religion and science, from Greek philosophy and the Islamic Golden Age to the Renaissance and modern secularism. While scientific advancements have led to a secular worldview in the West, a resurgence of spirituality and religious movements is observed in contemporary times. The paper further discusses the potential for reconciliation between religion and science in the modern world.
