Abstract

The research on optimization of transesterification temperature for production of biodiesel from rice straw oil (Oryza sativa L.) using CaO catalyst derived from the chicken egg skin has been conducted. Production of biodiesel was conducted at varied temperatures, namely 30oC, 40oC, 50oC, 60oC and 70oC. The fatty acid compositions of the transesterification products were determined by using GC-MS and the physical and chemical characteristics were determined using SNI Methods 04-7182-2006. The AAS result suggested that the chicken egg skin contained 91.41% CaO. The optimum transesterification temperature was 60oC producing 90,8405% methyl ester. The results of GC-MS showed that the highest percentage of fatty acid was methyl oleic (44.56%).

Abstract

Preparation of methyl salicylate use the acid catalyst by without solvents method has been done. Preparation of methyl salicylate was carried out by reacting salicylic acid with methanol and use sulfonic acid as a catalyst. The raeaction was use reflux method at 60-70 oC for 3 hours. The result of preparation of methyl salicylate were it has a yellow clear solution (like oil) and has a distinctive smell (like gandapura oil). From the result of FT-IR analysis showed the functional groups O-H phenol, C-H sp2, C-H sp3, C=O ester, C=C aromatic, C-O-C ester and C-OH phenol. Based on these results it is known that the methyl salicylate has been formed.

Abstract

TZeolization of coal waste was carried out as an adsorbent for Cu(II) ions. Fly ash tailings were collected from Lati Steam Power Plant (SPP) Berau and tested using SEM instruments, X-ray diffraction and AAS. Synthetic zeolites are prepared by hydrothermal reaction under alkaline and alkaline conditions. Characterization of the synthetic zeolite using SEM has formed a zeolite material with a pore size >10 µm and shows an increase in the amount of Na from 3.06% to 11.82%. XRD results show that Na-P1 zeolite is formed at the main top of 2θ16, 30, 33, 10 and 40, 80, and the relative intensities are 34, 31 and 36, respectively. In addition, elemental materials such as silica and mullite are continuously formed on the main top of 2θ26.50 and 26.10, the relative strength of silica is 100, and the relative strength of mullite is 57.9. The optimum adsorption capacity of zeolite for maximum copper ion was 80.330% at pH=4, 97.958% at 150 mg adsorbent weight, and 94.550% at 50 min contact time. The formation of these new materials significantly improved the adsorption capacity of fly ash under optimal conditions of pH = 4, sorbent weight of 150 mg, and contact time of 50 min.

Abstract

Nipah (Nypa fruticans Wurmb) is a mangrove plant from the Palmae tribe that grows along rivers that are affected by tides. The abundance of nipa palm in mangrove forests is quite high, so it has great potential to be developed. This review aims to discuss the potential anti-inflammatory activity of nipah leaves as traditional medicine, so that they can add value to nipah leaves and can be useful in the health sector. The literature search was carried out through Google Scholar and Scholar research papers related to the ability of anti-inflammatory activity in nipah leaves and other Arecaceae families. Nipah leaf extract contains secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, steroid saponins and triterpenoids. Flavonoids can function as inhibitors of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes so that they can be used to treat anti-inflammatory. Based on the literature, it can be concluded that nipah leaves are potentially effective as traditional medicine in treating inflammation or inflammation. Abstract

Kenitu (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) is one of the plants that has the potential to cure fever, diarrhea and inflammation of the respiratory tract. This study aimed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration value of kenitu leaf methanol extract (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) against Salmonella thypi bacteria ATCC 422. The minimum inhibitory concentration value of kenitu (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) against Salmonella thypi ATCC 422 bacteria was 0.625 %. The presence of antibacterial activity of kenitu leaf methanol extract (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) contains secondary metabolite compounds of alkaloid, phenolic and steroid groups. Keywords: Chrysophyllum cainito L., antibacterial, minimum inhibitory concentration, Salmonella thypi ATCC 422

Abstract

Glucomannan extracted from porang tubers (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume) can be used as a raw material for made edible films. In this research, extraction of glucomannan with graded ethanol method resulted in a yield of 10% and the composition of the edible film forming solution used was 6% glucomannan porang tubers and 25% (w/w) glycerol. The resulted edible film was clear and transparent with the characteristics tested are water content, thickness and water vapor transmission respectvely 20.16%, 0.15 m2 and 22.89 g/m2/hour. Based on the results of SEM analysis showed that the surface of the edible film of glucomannan porang tubers, the morphology of the surface was somewhat smooth but still less homogeneous. So, efforts are still needed to improve the characteristics so that to acording the required standards Keywords: Preparation, edible film, glucomannan, porang tubers

Abstract

Antiinflammatory activity tests of extract and fractions of kenitu Leaves (Chrysopyllum cainito L) in vitro were carried out. This research aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of crude extract methanol of kenitu leave with protein denaturation inhibition method by using BSA (Bovine serum albumin). Diclofenac sodium was used as positive control and the negative control used the appropriate solvent. Based on phytochemical screening test, methanol extracts are known to contain secondary metabolites including flavonoids, alkaloids and phenolics. The results of the anti-inflammatory activity test of methanol extract have moderate anti-inflammatory potential with an IC50 value of 196,29 ppm. Keywords: Chrysopyllum cainito L, Secondary metabolites, Anti-inflammatory, 50% inhibition concentration.
