Abstract

Carrot is a highland plant that is mostly grown in monoculture and intercropping systems. There are even some were grown under / between perennial trees. However, this system causes the decline of light intensity,  nutrient and water. In line with this phenomenon, a research was conducted to determine the influence of chicken manure and shading on carrot’s growth and yield.  The research was conducted in the Junggo Village, Batu city, using Split Plot Design. There were two treatments i.e: (1) as main plot, namely the percentage of shading consisting of four levels:  0 %, 20 %, 40 % and 60 %. The shading material used was black plastic net; (2) as sub plot, namely chicken manure dosage consisting of three levels: 10 tons/ha, 20 tons/ha and 30 tons/ha. The twelve treatment combinations obtained were replicated three times. The result showed that the treatment of 20 tons/ha chicken manure onto carrot grown with no shading increased the growth and yield. This treatment, however, did not show a significant difference in the growth and yield when applied to carrot grown with shading. The treatment of 20% shading, yielded a good plant growth although accompanied by the decrease in the fresh tuber weight by 14 % and the increase in beta carotene content. The application of 10 tons/ha did not show difference in the growth and yield of carrot treated with 20 tons/ha and 30 tons/ha of chicken manure. Keywords:  carrot, chicken manure, shade.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan kombinasi pupuk organik dan anorganik dengan maksud mengurangi penggunaan dosis pupuk urea tanpa menurunkan pertumbuhan dan hasil jagung manis di lahan kering.  Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Balai Penelitian Tanaman Tembakau dan Serat  Karang Ploso  Malang.  Ketinggian tempat penelitian adalah 513 meter dpl,  kondisi lahan kering jenis Inseptisol dengan  pH 6.4. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK), yang terdiri dari 12 perlakuan dan diulang sebanyak 3 kali, meliputi : P0 =  tanpa perlakuan  pemupukan,  P1 = 200 N (dosis rekomendasi),  P2 = Kompos rami 10 t/ha,  P3 = Pupuk kandang sapi 10 t/ha,  P4 = Kompos rami 10 t/ha + 200 kg N/ha,  P5 = Kompos rami 10 t/ha + 150 kg N/ha,  P6 = Kompos rami 10 t/ha + 100 kg N/ha,    P7 = Kompos rami 10 t/ha + 50 kg N/ha,   P8 = Pupuk kandang  sapi 10 t/ha  +  200 kg N/ha,     P9 = Pupuk  kandang  sapi 10 t/ha   + 150 kg N/ha,    P10 = Pupuk kandang sapi 10 t/ha + 100 kg N/ha,  P11 = Pupuk kandang sapi 10 t/ha +50 kg N/ha. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pupuk organik dan anorganik meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil jagung manis, produksi jagung manis meningkat sebesar  58.91%  untuk  perlakuan pupuk organik dan  241.33% untuk perlakuan pupuk anorganik dosis rekomendasi dibandingkan perlakuan tanpa pemupukan, yaitu hanya mampu menghasilkan 3.627 ton/ha.  Penggunaan pupuk anorganik lebih meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman jagung manis, dimana hasil yang dicapai meningkat sebesar 114.8% dibandingkan perlakuan pupuk organik yang menghasilkan 5.7635 ton/ha. Kombinasi pupuk organik 10 ton/ha + anorganik (urea) 150 kg N/ha mampu meningkatkan hasil sebesar 20,42% dibandingkan perlakuan pupuk anorganik dosis rekomendasi, dan meningkat sebesar 158.66% dibandingkan perlakuan poupuk organik.  Kombinasi pupuk organik + urea 200 kg N/ha mampu meningkatkan hasil sebesar 17.26% dibandingkan perlakuan pupuk anorganik dosis rekomendasi,  dan bila dibandingkan dengan pupuk organik maka hasil  meningkat sebesar 151.88%.  Penggunaan pupuk organik baik berasal dari kompos rami maupun pupuk kandang sapi dapat mengurangi pemakaian pupuk anorganik (urea) sebanyak 50 kg N/ha. Sebagai pupuk organik, kompos rami dan pupuk kandang sapi mempunyai potensi yang sama baik dalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman jagung manis.
