Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of cooperative learning models (TAPPS and conventional type) on mathematical critical thinking ability, the influence of high and low mathematical disposition on mathematical critical thinking abilities, and the influence of interactions between learning models (TAPPS and conventional type) with students’ mathematical disposition on mathematical critical thinking skills in eighth grader of SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan. This research was carried out in the odd semester of 2018/2019 school year in SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan. The type of research used in this study is a quasi-experimental with a 2×2 factorial design. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan. Sampling is done by simple random sampling. The sample in this study is class VIII-1 as a control class and VIII-3 as an experimental class. Data collection is done by using mathematical critical thinking ability test and mathematical disposition questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using descriptive and inferential analysis. Descriptive analysis includes mean and standard deviation. Inferential analysis uses two-way variance analysis. Based on the results of the analysis with a significant level of 5%, it can be concluded that the learning model (TAPPS and conventional) influenced the ability of  mathematical critical thinking with p-value 0.046, high and low mathematical disposition affect the ability of mathematical critical thinking with a p-value of 0.000, and there is no influence of interaction between learning models with mathematical disposition of mathematical critical thinking skills in class VIII SMP 7 Tarakan with p-value 0.503.

Abstract

The development model used is the Borg and Gall model of Sugiyono modification. In the Borg and Gall model, the Sugiyono modification consists of 10 stages, namely Potential and Problems, Data Collection, Product Design, Design Validation, Design Revision, Product Testing, Product Revision, Usage Testing, Product Revision and Mass Production. The media testing phase is done through 2 stages, namely the assessment of experts and user response. In the assessment of experts validated by material experts, media experts and linguists. While the user response was tested by 30 students and 2 mathematics teachers. The results of analysis shows that the kosami product developed based on validation by material experts obtained a feasible category with a percentage of 79.68%, media experts obtained the category of Very Eligible with a percentage of 92.72% and linguists obtained the Very Eligible category with a percentage of 83.33%.While the result of research in the field by the response of teacher user obtained a percentage of 75% with a Very Practical category, responses of student users obtained by 87,33% with a Very Eligible category, and responses of student users obtained by 90,67% with a Very Practical category . Because it has fulfilled the feasible and practical requirements of a Kosami learning media consisting of aspects of material feasibility, media feasibility, feasibility of language use, and practicality of user response, the kosami can be used as a feasible and practical learning media for students of clas VII SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan on  Number Material.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the level of students' mathematical arithmetic skills in solving problems in the summing material based on counting on in class II of SD Negeri 018 Tarakan. The method used is a quantitative approach to the type of descriptive explanation. The results of the study were obtained from the students' numeracy ability test results based on the mathematics numeracy ability category of students in the high and medium categories. The problems used to identify the ability to count scheme are three problems, namely problems related to counting on, counting all, then counting on and counting all. The results of students' math skills based on the counting on scheme were obtained through interviews with 25 research subjects. Problem 1 was solved by students with a counting scheme of 10 students (40%), Problem 2 was solved by students with a counting scheme of 1 student (4%). Problem 3 is solved by students with a counting on scheme of 2 students (8%).

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study maps the locations and etiological factors of mathematical errors among eighth-grade students in solving Linear Equations in Two Variables (LETV), analyzed through cognitive style typologies. Using purposive sampling, five representative subjects two Field Independent (FI) and three Field Dependent (FD) students—were selected. Data triangulation involved the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT), a problem-solving test, and clinical interviews, analyzed through an interactive model of reduction, display, and verification. Results indicate that FI students commit conceptual errors due to lack of thoroughness, principle errors from personalized methods, and procedural errors from unsystematic approaches. Conversely, FD students exhibit conceptual errors from misunderstanding prerequisites, principle errors in mathematical modeling, and procedural errors due to inappropriate methods and low arithmetic accuracy. The study emphasizes the necessity of instructional differentiation: teachers should provide systematization exercises for FI students to minimize carelessness and intensive scaffolding for FD students to improve their transformation of word problems into formal models. This approach aims to reduce cognitive barriers by addressing specific learning characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills in grade VIII of SMPN 2 Bunyu Island. This study uses a quasi-experiment, with a sample of 63 students obtained through saturated sampling. Data on mathematical critical thinking skills were collected with five different description questions for the pretest and posttest. The research data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent-samples t-test, and an N-gain score test. The descriptive analysis showed that the average score on the mathematical critical thinking tests in the experimental class using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model was higher than that in the control class using the conventional model. The independent-samples t-test showed t-calculate > t-table at the 5% significance level, and the follow-up test using the N-gain score showed that the average score of the experimental class was significantly higher than the average N-gain score of the control class. Thus, it was concluded that the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model influenced students’ mathematical critical thinking skills in grade VIII of SMPN 2 Bunyu Island. Implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model can be an effective strategy for improving students’ critical thinking skills in mathematics.
