Abstract

A randomized block design experiment was performed to determine the optimum extraction time and its production cost for producing a extract powder of guava (Psidii folium) leaf. The extraction process was carried out for 5; 10; 15; 20; 25 and 30 minutes respectively. The extract was then dried and the parameters observed were the yield, the levels of tannin, moisture, pH and the production cost.    The results showed that the yield, the characteristics of the powdered extract, as well as the production cost, varied with the extraction time. Based on the regression technique, it was likely that  17.5 minutes was the optimum extraction time. The yield was 2.67 % at 4.42 % moisture and contained 0.3968 g per 5 g (7.936 %) tannin with the pH of 4.32. The production cost was IDR (Indonesian Dollar Rupiah) 875 per 5 g powdered extract.Key word : Extraction time, guava leaf, powdered extract

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of tamarind seed as a natural coagulant and stirring time in the quality improvement of waste water produced by tofu industries. The levels of tamarind seed flour added were 6 g/L, 10g/L and 14g/L, and the stirring time of 3 min and 5 min respectively. The experiment was carried out in triplicates and assessing the parameters of total soluble solids (TSS), BOD, dissolved oxygen (DO) and the pH.The results showed that the tamarind seed flour was able to reduce the level of parameters studied. The best treatment was obtained from the application of tamarind seed flour at a level of 14 g/L and 3 minutes stirring time. This combination was able to reduce  67.29% of the TSS level (from 425 mg/L to 139 mg/L) and 24.18% of the BOD5 value (from 71 mg/L to 53.83 mg/L) and to increase 53.85% of the DO value (from 1.8 mg/L to 3.90 mg/L) and pH value from 3.93 to 4.57. The BOD5 level of the treated water met the requirement of the quality standard of waste water for the tofu industry, except the TSS, DO and pH values. Keywords: coagulation, natural coagulant, tamarind seed

Abstract

This research was intended to use IPPS model for estimating industrial pollution load in Surabaya.  Descriptive-analytic method was chosen as the research methodology and consists of two main stages, i.e. classify industries base on the ISIC code and estimate pollution load of each industrial sector based on the number of employments’ variables.  Major data used are the annual industrial activities provided by BPS.  The data includes the name, addresses, main product and number of employees of the industries. The estimation has been carried out on six types of air pollutant, namely levels of SO2, NO2, VOC, CO, TSP, PM10 and two types of water pollutant (TSS and BOD). The result shows that the Chemical Producer N.E.C Industries are main contributor for the pollutant of SO2, NO2, and VOC, while TSP and PM10 are given mostly emitted by Oil and Fat Industries. On the other hand, the Soap, Cleaning Prep, Perfumery and Toilet Prep Industries are the main contributor for CO.  The BOD pollution load comes mainly from Pulp, Paper and Paperboard Industries and the TSS is contributed primarily by Iron and Steel Mills, Foundries, and Re-Rolling Industries.   Key Words: industrial pollution, pollution load

Abstract

Horticulture quality characteristics are commonly defined in the uncertainty, vague and ambiguous forms.  These can be a problem in designing database of horticulture quality standard.  This research intended to develop a database system for horticulture quality characteristics that can handle the nature of quality characteristics data using fuzzy approach.  Two main activities that were carried out are fuzzyfication of horticulture quality characteristics and designing database using fuzzy relational model.  The results show that most of local fruits and vegetables have been standardized either in national scope using SNI (Indonesian National Standard) or local scope using market segmentation standard. For fuzzy variable, its fuzzy sets depend on the values of quality prerequisite for each quality grade.  Conceptual design using Fuzzy Relational Database model involves five major entities, i.e. Categories, Comodities, Standard Type, Quality Standard, and Quality Criteria.  To accommodate the fuzzy characteristics, a specific entity which is an extension entity (Fuzzy Set) was added.  The transformation process into relational data model and table normalization produced seven related tables. Keywords: horticulture, quality, database, fuzzy logic

Abstract

The objective of this research was to set up the SMS based agricultural commodities information system that run well and provide accurate and speedy information at a reasonably low cost, particularly for horticultural products marketed at Sub Agribusiness Terminal (STA) Mantung Agribis Center in Malang Regency. The Agribusiness information outputs consist of suppliers, sale transactions, buyers, purchasing transactions, and commodities information. The required data were Government, Suppliers, and Buyers. The system users would be Suppliers, buyers, Managers of Agribusiness Terminals, Sub Agribusiness Terminal and main markets, and related government and private bodies. A descriptive-analytical method, so-called the prototyping approach, was chosen. The research was started in two main stages, first, an identification of users’ needs and a development of a system prototype that covered the conceptual design, architecture design, and program implementation (coding). The architecture of the design consisted of data base, process, user interface, and network design. The software employed were Gammu, Firebird 1.5, SMS Demon and Delphi 7.0. The hardware required include the Auto Respond SMS application, a compute set equipped with a GSM modem, and a GSM network. The information in the developed system, however, was not real time since the data was first collected from the sources, then the collected data was input and processed. Therefore, there will be a time delay, depending on the time to execute this sequence. The results indicated that the developed system was able to provide users the relevance information within 15-30 seconds at a cost of not more than regular SMS charge.   Key words: SMS-based horticultural information system

Abstract

Capture fisheries value chains are highly fragmented and time-sensitive, with multiple stakeholders and perishable products creating persistent challenges for quality management, traceability, and resilience. Many improvement initiatives prioritize digital technologies, yet benefits often remain limited when tools are not embedded in day-to-day business processes. This study proposes a process-centric framework that integrates Porter’s Value Chain with Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) to diagnose and redesign capture fisheries workflows. Using a case-based approach, As-Is BPMN models are developed across key actors—fishing vessels, landing/auction sites, processors, and distributors—to identify process gaps, information discontinuities, and subjective decision points that weaken end-to-end traceability and quality assurance. Building on these insights, a To-Be process architecture is designed that embeds standardized identifiers, explicit decision logic, quality checkpoints, and traceability controls directly into operational workflows. The findings indicate that process-oriented redesign strengthens information continuity, accountability, and compliance readiness, shifting traceability from a retrospective reporting obligation to an operational management mechanism. Methodologically, the study demonstrates how Porter’s Value Chain can function as a process landscape and how BPMN connects strategic value creation to execution. Practically, the framework offers actionable guidance to improve governance and resilience in capture fisheries value chains.

Abstract

AbstractThe distribution of perishable food products faces challenges related to distance efficiency, cost efficiency, and vehicle capacity utilization, particularly when small fleets must serve multi-product demand while maintaining product quality sensitive to travel time. Vehicle capacity constraints strengthen the relationship between customer visit sequencing and internal vehicle load allocation. This study proposed a Multi-Compartment Vehicle Routing Problem (MCVRP) optimization approach that integrates compartment ratio design and route formation for the distribution of two packaged mozzarella cheese products to 18 customers in a single-depot system. The objective was to minimize total travel distance and evaluate the financial impact through fuel and labor cost components. A deterministic model with two vehicles of 100 kg capacity was formulated and solved using the Ant Colony Optimization algorithm, followed by a separate evaluation of operational costs for direct managerial interpretation. The results show that a 65:140 compartment ratio provides the best configuration, reducing total distance from 119.50 km to 106.20 km, decreasing routes from six to five, and lowering distribution costs by 15.87% per cycle. Capacity utilization improved without adding vehicles, enhancing both operational and financial efficiency. Industrial implications point to scale-up opportunities and enhanced sustainability through energy efficiency in small-scale food distribution. Keywords: Ant Colony Optimization, small fleet, perishable food distribution, Multi-Compartment Vehicle Routing Problem, compartment ratio AbstrakDistribusi produk pangan mudah rusak menghadapi tantangan efisiensi jarak, biaya, dan pemanfaatan kapasitas ketika armada kecil harus melayani permintaan multi-produk dan mutu produk sensitif terhadap waktu tempuh. Keywords: Ant Colony Optimization, armada kecil, distribusi pangan mudah rusak, Multi-Compartment Vehicle Routing Problem, rasio kompartemen
