Abstract

The cross-flow turbine is one of widely used impulse turbine in power generator system due to it’s simple design and ability to be applied to a wide range of head and flow conditions. The flow in a cross-flow turbine flows in a crossed manner and works in 2 stages which could affect the turbine’s performance. Hence the visualization of these flow behavior could indicate the performance. Complexity of the flow inside the runner require the usage of CFD Method to visualize the flow, leaving the gap since numerical model also rely on turbulence model. The purpose of this study is to analyze the flow pattern in the nozzle and runner on a cross-flow turbine using the RNG k-ε turbulence model in ANSYS 2021 R2 Academic Version software. The simulation was carried out with 5 variations of nozzle inlet velocity: 2 m/s, 3 m/s, 4 m/s, 5 m/s and 6.487 m/s. The working fluid is assumed to be 1 phased water, with nozzle inlet pressure of 1.05 Pa, temperature of 24.85 oC and RNG k- ε turbulence model which compared to STD k-e turbulence model from the previous study. The results show that the simulation with the RNG k-ε turbulent models resulted in differences in the velocity and pressure profiles of Stage 1 of 3.353% and 87.679% and Stage 2 of 13.653% and 21.826% compared to simulation with k-ε STD models.

Abstract

Air circulation and thermal comfort are some of many factors that affects user’s behavior in indoor activity, particularly in learning activity. With appropriate air quality and thermal comfort, it is easier for students to focus on the learning process. In addition, better air circulation can also benefit to the health of the people inside the building, for instance, according to WHO (World Health Organization), appropriate airflow may reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2 which lately has caused a COVID-19 pandemic. However, air circulation and distribution have not a concern yet due to existing room condition and advanced technology that is needed, in L 609 classroom and Heat & Mass Transfer Laboratory, in this research. CFD method implementation for this case is used to show existing air circulation condition and necessary recommendations to get better air circulation. CFD simulation is done 3 dimensionally with 44344 nodes tetrahedral mesh on 2 configuration room condition, which are classified based on air input from AC, door gap, and with or without window opening. Based on CFD simulation results, the 2nd configuration with window opening indicate the best configuration with air velocity around 0,8 m/s dan room temperature 295,8 – 302,1 K. With window opening, the air flow condition met the ANSI/ASHRAE 55 and hoped to reduce COVID-19 spreading.

Abstract

Cloud Kitchen is a commercial kitchen that serves food for delivery or takeaway without dine-in customers. Because the cloud kitchen consists of many kitchens, good air circulation is needed. The total volume of the 15 kitchen units in the cloud kitchen is 249.8 m3, so to meet commercial kitchen standards that have a minimum Air Change per Hour (ACH) value of 30 ACH, an air change of 4410 m3/h with a ducting system is required. From the simulation results, the air velocity distribution in the ducting ranges from 0 m/s to 92.426 m/s, while the pressure distribution in the ducting ranges from -578.824 Pa to 11639.58 Pa, and the distribution of air temperature in the ducting ranges from 49.8°C to 65.167°C. The chosen exhaust fan is a CKE brand centrifugal fan with type CKE DGB-4.5#-NO and an exhaust capacity of 5712–10562 m3/h.

Abstract

This research discussion aims to determine the performance of the Jiandong 170F single-cylinder Diesel engine when operating on dual-fuel combustion, utilizing biodiesel as the primary fuel and natural gas. In this study, RCCI and low-temperature combustion (LTC) are methods of fuel mixing by using a mixture of B30 biodiesel fuel and natural gas. The characteristic of natural gas with a low cetane number causes the combustion process to occur at lower temperatures, resulting in early ignition of the upper dead point. This condition can be examined using the HCCI method. The test results showed a 4% increase in actual torque, worth 5.8 Nm, compared to the use of pure biodiesel. In addition, there is an increase in thermal efficiency of 5-10%, which is worth an average of 30%. This makes combustion more perfect, so that it contributes to a reduction in residual emissions or NOx.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and thermal efficiency of a three-dimensional printed Polylactic Acid (PLA) heatsink coated with copper through electroplating at different electrical currents. The heatsink was designed in CAD software, fabricated using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), and coated with graphite before electroplating. The electroplating process was conducted at an electrode distance of 6 cm using currents of 0.75, 1.00, and 2.00 A with a constant processing time. We compared the thermal performance of the fabricated heatsinks with that of a commercial aluminum heatsink. The results showed that the applied current affected both coating characteristics and thermal performance. The most uniform coating was obtained at 1.00 A, while 2.00 A produced a thicker but less uniform coating. The aluminum heatsink exhibited an actual efficiency of 48%, whereas the copper-plated PLA heatsink at 0.75 A achieved the highest actual efficiency of 86%, with a theoretical efficiency of approximately 91%. These results indicate that copper electroplating can improve the thermal performance of PLA heatsinks.

Abstract

A heat sink is an electronic cooling component desained to maintain stable operating temperatures and minimize component damage caused by electrical stress. A key challenge lies in manufacturing heat sinks with complex geometries and high-quality base materials without compromising cost or production time. 3D printing is an emerging technology that enables the rapid, detailed, and convenient fabrication of products. Using the FDM 3D printing method, complex heat sink desains can be produced cost-effectively; furthermore, electroplating with copper and nickel can be applied to the printed parts to enhance thermal performance. Testing over a 16-minute period demonstrated that the heat sink performs comparably to conventional models, reaching a maximum temperature of 37.48°C.
