Abstract

Background research is to see how many contemporary houses that much different from the Javanese house, contemporary house is usually attached to each other neighbor's house, do not have a yard, use half a stone wall, while the Javanese house has a large yard, far enough distance between the house and use a single wall stone. Objectives of this paper is to show natural differences in ventilation resulting from the use of materials, and types of homes are these different settings. Methodology used is to use CFD simulations to see how the difference and temperature difference. Using the measurement data base BMKG with winds measured at a height of 10m on the hottest and coldest months. Outcomes are the temperature and wind speed in Java proved to be more comfortable home. Summary The results proved that the traditional Javanese house more comfortable because it uses the hinge side windows, that make it easier for air to flow than the type of window (upper hinge) and one brick wall material further inhibit heat conduction than half brick wall. Keywords: natural ventilation, traditional house, contemporary house

Abstract

Boyolali is one city in Indonesia with a massive growth in infrastucture development, especially in terms of public and communities space development that became urban planning goals of Boyolali city in the last five years. There are many development programs that have been planned by the goverment, one of them is the plan for building Botanical Garden as a conservation area and public space in 2016. This program is the reason why Boyolali Botanical Garden is choosen as the object design. The design of the Botanical Garden is more focused on the educational recreation purpose that implement fun learning experiences as a learning method. This method has proven to make learning new things, in this case is botany , fun and easier to understand. The architectural approach used to solve the design problems of this Botanical Garden is Fun Design approach, so the design of Botanical Garden tries to direct architectural elements toward a design that gives a pleasant and fun environment to the users because fun environment is the most conductive learning climate for non-formal education. The architectural elements that can help to form a fun environment in Fun Design approach is : Forms, Mass Arragement, Colors, Materials, Aperture and Lighting. These elements can help to create a fun learning environment by emphasizing the design decision on the impression that can be conveyed by each elements. The impression that need to be conveyed by the design to make fun learning environment among others is cheerfullness, energetic, happy, flexible, freedoom, and refreshing. One of the example is the application of bright color (such as yellow, red, blue, ect) to convey cheerfulness and energetic impression on the design.

Abstract

Urban conservation plays a siginificant part in urban design to develop historical quarter, in which sense of place theory can be applied. Kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon, an ethnic cultural quarter in Surakarta, is the case of this urban conservation study. It’s chosen due to the city goverment’s neglect on the development of the heritage area. The conservation includes living heritages in the area, which allows the place to be designated as living museum. This study rises a question on the concept of Kampung Arab Pasar Kliwon conservation, using sense of place theory, on desigining living museum. Answer to the stated issue is enhancing the activity, physical setting, and image in urban area and heritage buildings. Research method used in this study is qualitative-study case. On the street, sense of place is utilised to enhance economic activity, street life activity, cultural activity, and educational activity through urban physical element. In the heritage building, sense of place acts to preserve existing activities and develop or add new activities, room atmosphere, and building exterior. The built physical elements, accommodating the existing and new activities, are designed to conjure particular images (legibility, knowledgibility, and psychological access) through  conservation actions (preservation, reconstruction, and infill).

Abstract

Green roof researches have many benefits in supporting a sustainable environment. During the covid-19 pandemic, there was a change in lifestyle due to demands for the prevention of transmission, so many activities were carried out at home. These two phenomena will be integrated into this study, to provide solutions for space expansion in residential areas during the covid-19 pandemic. The research method uses an online questionnaire in several regions in Indonesia and a small number outside Indonesia; conducting a content analysis on previous green roof research; then linking the results of community responses and the potential for green roofs. The results of the study found that there were still few people who knew about the opportunity for a roof to expand its space which was more useful, even though there have been many findings of green roof innovations. In addition, there is still little research on green roofs that relates to the pandemic situation, particularly in Indonesia.

Abstract
