Abstract

A new type of sensing materials for humidity measurement has been developed based on conducting polymer polypyrrole synthesised from pyrrole by adding some dopant compounds, bromide and chloride, it is prepared by potentiodynamic-electropolymerisation technique. Variation of dopant types and concentration has been carried out in order to investigate the effect of this variation to the change of polymeric conductivity when interacting with water vapour. Polypyrrole-Cl (Ppy-Cl) and polypyrrole-Br (Ppy-Br) exhibit a good principal characteristic as sensor candidate namely responding proportionally to humidly variation ranging 30% - 90% relative humidity. Characterisation test for the sensor candidates has been carried out for evaluating their linearity respond toward humidity, their stability in certain period and their reproducibility in some tests. The results show that Ppy-Cl and Ppy-Br showing good linearity respond with R value in a range of 0.95 - 0.99. Their reproducibility and sensitivity were relatively good, however their respond stability were only last in few days. The stability probably is related to the stability of resulted polymeric structure that very affected by synthesis process and dopant used. It is necessary to extend the use of other dopant materials and changing the synthesis process in order to improve sensor stability. In other hand it is also necessary to characterise other performance characteristic of the sensor namely response time, and interference effect of some volatile chemicals and other gases.

Abstract

The mathematical modelling of geological structures, i.e. magma intrusion or dyke, has been done,  based on magnetic data with inversion techniques using MatLab. The magnetic equation is a non-linear equation, and completion is done using a linear approach to non-linear mathematical models of magnetic data using the Taylor expansion approach and Jacobi Matrix. The first step of this research is to make synthetic data forward modelling from the magnetic equation of magma intrusion or dyke cases without errors, and the next stepping then add errors to the data. The next step is to do an inversion to get the parameters sought, i.e. depth and angle of the magma intrusion, by giving initial guesses, and then re-correct iteratively until convergent results are obtained. Finally, parameters of slope dyke or thin magma intrusion and its depth can be determined. The results obtained indicate that this technique can be used to get physical parameters sought from magnetic data for simple geological cases, i.e. dyke and magma intrusion.

Abstract

A survey on marine geology and oceanography was conducted in Manggar Waters, East Belitung, in order to protect the geological heritage of the newly inaugurated Belitong UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) in 2021. This study is aimed at understanding the characteristics of the seabed, marine sediments, currents, and coastal features in the area. A bathymetrical survey was done using an Echotrac echosounder to measure water depths, and current measurements were taken with an Infinity device. Forty sediment samples were collected and analyzed for their characteristics. The coastal features were examined through direct observation, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) drone was used to investigate the morphology of small islands. The results showed that the seabed was mainly composed of coarse sediments, such as sand and clayey sand, with some areas containing gravel near Buku Limau Island. The microfauna foraminifera analysis indicated a relatively low diversity, with Operculina and Amphistegina being the dominant species. Two types of beaches were recognized: the northern part, consisting of rocky beaches made of igneous rocks, and the southern part, which has flat beaches made of beach alluvium deposits. Abrasion was found to be dominant in the southern part, particularly at Tambak Beach. The study provides valuable information for the planning and management of marine areas in the Belitong Geopark. It also highlights the importance of preserving and protecting the geological heritage of the region. With this newfound knowledge, stakeholders can make cognizant decisions to ensure the conservation of the Belitong Geopark and its unique geological features.

Abstract

In many real-world applications, the problem of data imbalance is a common challenge that significantly affects the performance of machine learning algorithms. Data imbalance means each target of classes is not balanced. This problem often appears in medical data, where the positive cases of a disease or condition are much fewer than the negative cases. In this paper, we propose to explore the oversampling-based Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) method to improve the performance of the classification algorithm over imbalanced medical datasets. We expect that GAN will be able to learn the actual data distribution and generate synthetic samples that are similar to the original ones. We evaluate our proposed methods on several metrics: Recall, Precision, F1 score, AUC score, and FP rate. These metrics measure the ability of the classifier to correctly identify the minority class and reduce the false positives and false negatives. Our experimental results show that the application of GAN performs better than other methods in several metrics across datasets and can be used as an alternative method to improve the performance of the classification model on imbalanced medical data.
