Abstract

Burns are injuries caused by direct body contact with hot objects or exposed to fire. Burns not only cause skin damage, but can also affect the body's systems. Avocado leaf (Persea americana Mill) is a medicinal plant known to contain compounds that play a role in wound healing, such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins and alkaloids. This study aims to determine the ethanol extract of avocado leaves has an effect on healing burns in rabbits. Avocado leaf extract was prepared by maceration using 70% ethanol as a solvent. The wound healing test in rabbits were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely the positive control group which was given lavertan ointment, the negative control group was given yellow vaseline, and 3 test groups were given ethanol extract of avocado leaves with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 20%. Making burns using a heated iron plate was then given to the rabbit's back for 5 treatments. Rabbits were observed every day for one week with statistical analysis One Way ANOVA test. The ethanol extract of avocado leaves with a concentration of 5% 10% and 20% had the effect of wound healing 5% = (11, 27 ± 0.16)%, 10% = (12.62 ± 0.14)%, and 20% = (19.86 ± 0.14)%, which means that the ethanol extract of avocado leaves has positive results on wound healing in rabbits. Avocado leaf ethanol extract can be used to heal burns in rabbits.

Abstract

Red betel leaf has an antifungal effect because red betel leaf contains chemical compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, polyphenols, tannins, terpenoids and essential oils. This research is an experimental research conducted in the laboratory with maceration method using 70% ethanol as solvent. The yield obtained from the extraction by maceration was 8.66 % w/w. The organoleptic results of cream preparations are brownish green, smell of jasmine, pH 6 test, homogeneity test is homogeneous, cream type is A/M and cream provides protection against alkaline solutions, the panelist preference test was chosen formula 3 because it has the largest number of panelists preference levels . In the dispersion test, the results of the ANOVA test showed a significance value (p 0.000) <0.05. This shows that there is an effect of the base formulation on the physical test of the cream preparation from the spreadability test of each formula. In the adhesion test, the ANOVA test results showed a significance value (p 0.530) > 0.05. These means that there was no effect of the base formulation on the adhesion test of each formula. Formulation 3 with a combination of 3.34 g stearic acid base and 0.43 g feather fat was the best and most stable formulation in the evaluation test of red betel leaf ethanol extract cream.

Abstract

Research has been carried out on seligi leaves (Phyllanthus buxifolius Muell. Arg.) as analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory both extracts and their fractions. However, no research has been conducted on the effects of healing burns from the n-hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of Seligi leaves. This study aims to determine the healing potency of n-hexane insoluble fraction burns from ethanol extract of Seligi leaves on rabbits. The research involved handling simplicia, extraction by maceration, fractionation with n-hexane and testing the activity of healing burns on rabbits. Observations were made by measuring the diameter of the dry wound for seven days at the burn site that had been smeared with the test preparation. Seligi leaf test preparation at a concentration of 20% compared to the positive control. The measured dry wounds are used to calculate wet wounds by subtracting the initial wound from the dry wound. The diameter of a wet wound is used to calculate the value of AUC (Area Under Curve) and %DPL (Percentage of Wound Healing Power). The percentage of DPL if the data is normally distributed and homogeneous, then statistically analyzed using the independent t test method to determine the level of significance between treatments. The n-hexane insoluble fraction from the ethanol extract of Seligi leaves with a concentration of 20% had a healing effect on burns in rabbits of (26.91 ± 2.10)% and positive controls gave healing of (28.32 ± 3.20)%, both of which were not has a significant difference.
