Abstract

The determination of totally phenolic compounds in methanol extracted of cortex fruit of Garcinia manggostana Linn has been done by Folin-Ciocalteau method. The  antioxidant activity has been performed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrihydrazil (DPPH) as reagent, that measured spectrometrically  compared with gallic acid as antioxidant standard compound. The total phenolate compounds found in fresh peel of mangosteen was 1,64±0.18% w/w which calculated as gallic acid equivalence and the antioxidant activity with a value of IC50 was 251,12 µg.

Abstract

A study on the preparation and characterization of microcrystalline cellulose from waste of sawdust has been carried out. A total of 300 grams of sawdust made into alpha-cellulose by multistage pulping method and hydrolyzed by using hydrochloric acid to produce microcrystalline cellulose, which was characterized further. Microcrystalline cellulose obtained as much as 99 grams with a yield of 33%. The organoleptic characteristics were fine powder, white, odorless, and tasteless. Identification with a solution of iodinated zinc chloride produced a blue violet and the infrared spectrum produced nearly the same wavenumber with Vivacel PH 102®. Solubility in water was 0.117% and the pH was 5.08, dissolved in a solution of ammonia-copper tetramin. The loss on drying was 5.85 %, the bulk density was 0.329 g/ml and tapped density was 0.542 g/ml. Carrs index value was 39.60%, Hausner ratio was 1.656 and Hydration capacity was 3.191. There was no starch on this microcrystalline cellulose. Microcrystalline cellulose from waste of sawdust generally met the pharmacopoeia requirements and the characteristics were not significantly different from Vivacel PH 102®.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian analisis kandungan merkuri dalam 3 sampel krim pemutih kosmetika herbal. Sampel diekstraksi dengan cara digesti basah selama 3 jam pada suhu ±95°C sampai diperoleh larutan bening. Selanjutnya merkuri ditentukan secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif dengan pereaksi warna dan menggunakan metoda spektrofotometri serapan atom. Hasil analisis kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa semua sampel mengandung merkuri. Kadar merkuri pada sampel 1, 2, 3 berturut-turut adalah sebesar 0,56%; 0,28% dan 0,45 %. Kadar Hg pada sampel tersebut melanggar Peraturan Menkes RI No.376/MenKes/Per/VIII/1990 dan PerMenKes RI No.445/MenKes/Per/V/1998 yang isinya melarang penggunaan merkuri dalam sediaan kosmetika.

Abstract

A study on the preparation of microcrystalline cellulose from sugar cane bagasse (Saccharum officinarum L.) has been carried out. A total of 250 grams of dry sugar cane bagasse was made into alpha-cellulose by the method of multistage pulping and hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid to produce microcrystalline cellulose which was further characterized. Microcrystalline cellulose were obtained as much as 71.5 grams with a yield of 28.6%. Characterization of microcrystalline cellulose from dry sugar cane bagasse, was done, including loss on drying, organoleptic, blue-violet coloured with of iodinated zinc chloride solution, soluble in the ammoniacal copper tetrammine solution, water-disoluble substances, not giving blue coloured with iodine 0.05 M, pH ± 6 and absorbance spectrum using FT-IR spectrophotometer as same as the standard. It was concluded that microcrystalline cellulose from sugar cane bagasse and Vivacel PH 102® has fulfilled the requirements of British Parmacopoeia 2002.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang skrining fitokimia dan uji aktivitas antioksidan  dari ekstrak etanol dan ekstrak air dari daun kersen (Muntingia calabura L).  Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menentukan senyawa kimia yang terkandung dalam ekstrak etanol dan ekstrak air daun kersen (Muntingia calaburaL) danuntuk menentukan aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak etanol dan ekstrak air daun kersen (Muntingia calabura L). Proses ekstraksi menggunakan pelarut etanol 70% dan pelarut air. Ekstraksi dengan pelarut etanol daun kersen menggunakan metode maserasi dan didapatkan rendemen ekstrak etanol 23,2811%.Ekstraksi dengan  pelarut air menggunakan metode infusa. Hasil yang diperoleh dari skrining fitokimia pada ekstrak etanol daun kersen diketahui positif mengandung senyawa flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, fenol, tanin, steroid, dan terpenoid sedangkan pada ekstrak air daun kersen diketahui positif mengandung senyawa flavonoid, saponin, fenol, tanin, dan terpenoid.Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan pada ekstrak etanol daun kersen diperoleh IC50 sebesar 35,38610 µg/mL aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat  pada ekstrak air diperoleh IC50 sebesar 268,04556 µg/mL aktivitas antioksidan lemah dan aktivitas antioksidan asam galat diperoleh IC50 sebesar 4,7879 µg/mL aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat.
