Abstract

Abstract

Science and technology bring people to a more advanced life. However, this modern life can not be separated from the serious problems that threaten mankind. Technological advances are widely misused so as to cause damage and destruction. Technology that originally aims to solve the problems of mankind, turned into the problem itself. Modern science legitimizes any action in society, even if it is contradict to the values and norms of truth. If examined carefully, this issue departs from the worldview that underlie the science. West and Islam have different ways of understanding the nature of science, its epistemology, and its usefulness. In Islam, the physical and metaphysical felds are indistinguishable, while the West distinguishes them. The West with its secularized worldview regards religious values as unimportant. This is actually inseparable from the trauma of Western society towards religion (Christian) in the past. This article tries to answer the problems posed by modern science. The study of this article begins by discussing what modern science is and its relation to European history. From there the study found that the fundamental problem lies in the realm of philosophy of science. At the end the researcher offers “Islamization or integration” of religion and technology, in answer to the problems posed by modern Western science. From this, it is expected to create a sustainable civilization, because science is no longer a threat to the survival of human life.

Abstract

AbstractThis study is kind of Christology which examined the central figure in Christianity, Isa bin Maryam. In this article, the figure of Isa will be studied using a comparative study between the teachings of Islam and Christianity. This study is very significant because Isa is important figure in both religions. In Islam, Isa is considered the Messenger of Allah who spread the message of God to His creatures. He is also one of the chosen messenger with the title ululazmi, which has a great fortitude and patience in carrying out his duties. Whereas in Christianity, Isa is God. The study in this article refers directly to the two religious scriptures: the Qur'an and the Bible. It has to be done because the scriptures are the main source of teaching in every religion. Abstract

One of the major contributions of Imam al-Ghazali through his book Ihya' Ulumuddin is the discussion of the close relationship between Sufism and fiqh. It is said so, because there are differences in understanding and conflict between groups who tend to pay too much attention to fiqh and ignore tasawuf and even deny it. Some other groups are immersed in the flow of Sufism so that they seem to ignore the Shari'a with the excuse that they are close to Allah SWT. Through Ihya, al-Ghazali explained that Sufism and Jurisprudence cannot be separated from each other, but must be practiced simultaneously. The goal is to reach an inner feeling that is touched by the wisdom in the worship. Like prayer, if the conditions are met, a Muslim should present a humble heart by understanding every meaning of dhikr in it. Likewise zakat, if the physical requirements have been fulfilled, a Muslim should hasten zakat with the intention to cleanse the heart of miserliness and avoid being riya'. In fasting, basically it is not enough just to refrain from eating and drinking, but the essence of fasting is to refrain from doing anything that is hated by Allah SWT and also to refrain from lust and worldly desires.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of morality according to Fazlur Rahman. Where serious morality problems make the younger generation of the Muslim community lose their true foundation of life. As a result, there will be suffering in life, loss of happiness and a meaningful life because of the secular and materialistic way of life that is permeated by their morality. This research will further develop morality, especially on how it can be applied in our education system, not only in rational and material aspects, but also includes moral and spiritual, with a comprehensive and integrative approach, under the tauhid worldview and paradigm, even morals must be applied in the age. Even morals must be applied in the age. This research is focused on the study of literature with a philosophical approach to analyzing Fazlur Rahman's books and books by other authors that are closely related to the topic. Thus, this study finds that Fazlur Rahman's concept of morality is a holistic view of the Qur'an on main themes, such as divinity, human action, nature, and eschatology. This view is the result of his original creation using the theory of multiple motions. From this point of view, Fazlur Rahman considers that the classical theologian's study of the Qur'an is a reductionist attitude, so it only leads to debate. In addition, through this theory, the problem of morality marginalizing humanity and divinity will be overcome. This study is one of the small contributions in order to re-articulate the general conclusions of Islamic metaphysics that have been built by Muslim intellectuals in the past according to the development of contemporary science.
