Abstract

This study examines the use of the Arabic alphabet in religious literature in Yogyakarta. This study uses a case study on three figure writers of religious texts that using the Arabic alphabet in southern part of Central Java (Yogyakarta), namely Asrori Ahmad (Magelang), Ali Maksum (Yogyakarta), and Ahmad Mujab Mahalli (Bantul). This study concluded that the writing of religious texts in Arabic alphabet in the southern Java area had been carried out by means of using Arabic Pegon, and only a few people who wrote in the Arabic language. The transmission of Arabic Pegon in Yogyakarta is allegedly from north coast of Java, especially from Lasem / East Java. The tradition of Arabic language teaching in the pesantrens still focuses mostly on the reading effort, communication, and understanding and it is not oriented to the writing skill. The presence of international journals initiated by the College of Islamic religious institutions and the effort of translation business into Arabic from certain institutions gives an opportunity to strengthen the use of the Arabic alphabet in Indonesia.

Abstract

The mosque is an important witness in the spread of Islam and the shift in religious thought in the community. This article attempts to examine the role of one of the Sultan Mosque in West Kalimantan, the Sultan of Sambas Mosque. This study uses the approach of religious archeology which is supported by tracing the history. The findings of this study found: 1) the existence of Sultan Sambas Mosque are witnessing the present  of Islam in West Kalimantan and the architecture of this mosque perform of the accumulation of these objects makes Sultan Sambas Mosque is a symbolic fusion of cultures of various countries. Therefore, cosmopolitan culture already visible in the architecture of the palace mosque Sambas. 2) Sultan Sambas Mosque play an important role in the renewal of Islamic thought in West Kalimantan. Abstract

This paper will examine the scientific writing skills in the context of pesantren. The pesantren has a long scientific history in Indonesia, unfortunately, it has not been accompanied by a strong tradition of scientific writing. The research question formulated is to figure out what causes the tradition of scientific writing in pesantren is not that strong. To find out the answer, this study will use a qualitative approach by raising two pesantren cases that organize ma’had aly education, namely the Ma’had Aly Sukorejo Situbondo and the Ma’had Aly Manggisan Wonosobo.  This  study  found  that  the reason why  the tradition  of  writing in pesantren is not that strong is due to the lack of scientific writing being introduced in pesantren. Eventhough, they have been introduced to the scientific tradition and academic culture in deciding various socio-religious issues. This study recommends the need for a pesantren breakthrough in the developing of scientific writing culture.

Abstract

The progress in artificial intelligence (AI) technology has greatly changed various facets of society. This study aimed to explore aspects that need to be considered in developing AI curriculum for senior high schools in Indonesia. The qualitative approach employed in this study. The researchers utilized focus group discussions with schools’ management and students at seven cities and group interviews with students at three cities. The results show that some schools want AI as an extracurricular activity, while others want it as a mandatory subject. School management and teachers aim for 2-3 competent AI instructors in each school. If no teachers are available, training will be provided to ICT, mathematics, or physics teachers for about a year to become AI educators. All participants agree on the importance of teaching students about AI applications and discussing ethical issues related to AI.

Abstract

AbstractIndonesia as an archipelagic country has the extraordinary potential marine wealth. It's just that, maritime culture in the nation's community has faded and is more oriented to land development (agrarian). This paper will examine the response of the pesantren world to the idea of developing a maritime spirit in supporting the idea of Indonesia as the world's maritime axis. Research questions were formulated to answer how understanding of maritime concepts was constructed and implemented by the pesantren community. This research is a qualitative research, by taking a case in pesantren bisnis.com Istana Mulia Serang Banten. From this case, the study concluded that pesantren did not have a clear concept in initiating maritime-based religious education. Various problems still hamper pesantren in building maritime culture such as related to technology and information systems, facilities and infrastructure, human resources. New strategies are needed in targeting pesantren for the formation of a maritime pesantren model. The government through the Ministry of Religion needs to make many breakthroughs to further socialize and start educational development related to maritime affairs. AbstrakIndonesia sebagai negara kepulauan mempunyai potensi kekayaan laut yang luar biasa. Hanya saja, budaya maritim pada masyarakat bangsa ini pernah meredup dan lebih berorientasi pada pembangunan daratan (agraris). Tulisan ini akan mengkaji respons dunia pesantren terhadap gagasan pembangunan semangat maritim dalam mendukung terciptanya Indonesia sebagai poros maritim dunia. Pertanyaan penelitian dirumuskan untuk menjawab bagaimana pemahaman konsep maritim dikonstruksi dan diimplementasikan oleh masyarakat pesantren. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kualitatif, dengan mengambil kasus di pesantren bisnis.com Istana Mulia Serang Banten. Dari kasus ini, penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa pesantren belum mempunyai konsep yang jelas dalam menggagas pendidikan keagamaan berbasis maritim. Berbagai permasalahan masih menjadi hambatan pesantren dalam membangun budaya maritim seperti terkait sistem teknologi dan informasi, sarana dan prasarana, sumber daya manusia.  Perlu strategi baru dalam membidik pesantren untuk pembentukan model pesantren maritim. Pemerintah melalui Kementerian Agama perlu melakukan banyak terobosan untuk lebih mensosialisasi dan memulai pembangunan pendidikan terkait dengan kemaritiman.
