Abstract

This study aims to reveal the role of biocatalysts based on activated biocarbon from areca nut shell waste in improving the ignition performance of sunflower seed oil droplets as an alternative fuel. Sunflower seed oil, which is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, has strong intermolecular binding forces that slow down its ignition. To overcome this, biocatalysts from activated areca nut shells were used. FTIR analysis showed an increase in the ability of fuel molecules to absorb heat, while TEM studies revealed that biocarbons have high porosity and uniform particle distribution, which supports combustion efficiency. Observations of temperature and droplet evolution using thermocouples and high-speed microscope cameras showed a significant increase in the ignition rate. The results indicate that this biocatalyst not only improves ignition efficiency but also utilizes organic waste, making it an environmentally friendly and sustainable fuel solution.

Abstract

Activated carbon is a crucial material widely used in various applications, including water purification and waste treatment. Areca nut husk, often regarded as waste, shows great potential as an alternative raw material for activated carbon. This study aims to characterize the structure and chemical properties of activated carbon derived from areca husk waste through an ethanol activation process. The activation process was conducted to enhance the porosity and surface area of the activated carbon, thereby increasing its adsorption capacity. Microstructure observations, XRD, TGA, and FTIR analyses were conducted to evaluate the quality of the activated carbon. The results showed that activated carbon with activation has a more complex pore structure, higher crystallinity, and additional functional group such as hydroxyl, which improve adsorption capacity and thermal stability. This study demonstrates that ethanol-activated areca husk has significant potential for various environmental and industrial applications.

Abstract

In Suskun Village, waste from palm oil and sago pulp is abundant. This waste is not only an environmental issue but also a challenge for the local community in terms of management. This community service program aims to train the community in producing briquettes as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel from these waste materials. Additionally, the program seeks to teach the community how to calculate the selling price of briquettes, enabling them to achieve economic independence in running their briquette business. The methods used in this program include: a) Socialization on briquette production from palm oil and sago pulp waste, b) Training on briquette-making through practical workshops, c) Implementation of technology by the community, d) Assistance and evaluation of the briquette production process, e) Sustainability of the program as a briquette business for the Suskun Village community, and f) Active community participation in all program stages. Throughout the activity, mentoring and evaluation of production outcomes were conducted to ensure the sustainability of the briquette business, allowing it to grow into a viable enterprise for the community. This program has yielded positive results, as the community can now independently produce briquettes from palm oil and sago pulp waste. This initiative creates economic opportunities and helps reduce waste in Suskun Village.

Abstract

Munculnya Covid-19, virus baru yang lebih cepat menular membuat kita semakin menjauhkan diri dari keramaian, bahkan sekolah –sekolah dan kantor-kantor melakukan pembelajaran jarak jauh lewat daring dan kerja dari rumah (Work from Home). Kegiatan perekonomian masyarakat membuat kita berisiko tinggi terinfeksi infeksi virus corona.

Abstract

The people of Doyo Baru use wells as their daily for clean water, it is known that Doyo Baru is one of the sub districts with great groundwater potential. This program was created with the intent and purpose to provide understanding to the people in the village of Doyo Baru about the importance of protecting the environment and soil drilling techniques and the depth that is permitted to get groundwater in wells The methods or approaches used for each program are as follows; Questionnaires, outreach, tree planting. Conservation map is a map that depicts an area of Doyo Baru village where there is nature and the environment to protect plants and groundwater. Nature conservation will provide benefits for the preservation of plants and can also prevent floods or landslides etc. The community does not yet understand that groundwater systems are sustainable based on conservation. The recharge area needs to be conserved. Recharge areas are areas that provide the main means of filling groundwater, good natural recharge areas are areas where surface water is able to infiltrate into groundwater. The recharge area needs to be maintained or maintained

Abstract

KAsyaman Village is one of the villages in Keerom district which has quite abundant agricultural products. Many plantations owned by the community are planted with banana trees. One form of processed banana plant is banana chips. So far, the people of Asyaman village process banana chips and sell them at kiosks or stalls without labels. Apart from that, the people of Asyaman village do not yet understand marketing through market places or online via social media. Based on the problems faced, this service approaches using qualitative methods, through interviews, observations and literature studies. The results obtained include making packaging labels and marketing training via social media. Through community service activities carried out with the aim of providing solutions to problems for the community in Asyaman village in particular and the entire community of Keerom district in general in order to increase knowledge and skills in managing existing agricultural products by utilizing technological advances. With assistance to MSME owners in Asyaman village, especially processing banana chips, they can make labels on their business products and also sell their products online through the market place.
