Controversial debate surrounding the veil and its prohibition in several institutions in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative approach and a descriptive comparative method, primary data is obtained from the organizations' officials, while secondary data involves relevant literature. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation, with analysis using Hans Robert Jauss' reception theory. Nahdlatul Ulama sees the veil not as an obligation in Islam but as a pre-Islamic tradition. They emphasize the importance of covering the aurat according to specified conditions, irrespective of the model of aurat covering. Conversely, Wahdah Islamiyah considers the veil a duty and recommendation to preserve the honor of Muslim women. The research findings indicate that Nahdlatul Ulama is oriented towards the Quran, hadith, fiqh books, ijma, and qiyas, following the Shafi'i school, while Wahdah Islamiyah relies on the Hambali school and classical interpretations of related verses. Both organizations agree that the essence of wearing the veil lies in the purity of the heart and choosing clothing in accordance with religious norms. Penelitian ini mengevaluasi pandangan Nahdlatul Ulama dan Wahdah Islamiyah terhadap cadar di Majene menggunakan metode Living Qur'an. Fokusnya pada perdebatan kontroversial seputar cadar dan pelarangan di beberapa instansi di Indonesia. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode deskriptif komparatif, data primer diperoleh dari pengurus ormas, sedangkan data sekunder melibatkan literatur terkait. Metode pengumpulan data melibatkan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, dengan analisis menggunakan teori resepsi Hans Robert Jauss. Nahdlatul Ulama melihat cadar bukan kewajiban Islam, melainkan tradisi pra-Islam. Mereka menekankan pentingnya menutup aurat sesuai syarat, tanpa memandang model penutup aurat. Wahdah Islamiyah, sebaliknya, menganggap cadar sebagai kewajiban dan anjuran untuk menjaga kehormatan wanita Muslim. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Nahdlatul Ulama berorientasi pada al-Qur'an, hadis, kitab fiqih, ijma, dan qiyas, mengikuti mazhab Imam Syafi'i, sementara Wahdah Islamiyah berlandaskan pada mazhab Hambali. Keduanya sepakat bahwa inti penggunaan cadar adalah kebersihan hati dan pemilihan pakaian sesuai norma agama.
