Abstract

The English language skills are also a determinant factor in the process of global knowledge exchange in various fields, including health, science, and technology. The connection between student needs and inadequate teaching approaches emphasizes the urgency of reforming English curricula in higher education. Identifying students’ needs in learning English is an important step in designing more effective and relevant curriculum and teaching methods. At STIK Bina Husada Palembang, English learning discusses the integration of four basic English language skills, namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing including aspects of grammar and vocabulary into the scope of nursing services and work both in clinical/community practice and in classroom and/or laboratory learning. In English language learning, need analysis helps educators design a curriculum that is appropriate to students' learning needs. By understanding these needs, teachers can develop relevant materials and target the language skills that are most useful to students in a particular context, such as academic, business, or everyday English. In this study, 150 students of the Nursing Science study program at STIK Bina Husada Palembang participated in the 2024/2025 academic year, but only 149 students filled out the Google form completely. The instrument used is a questionnaire that focuses on personal information, English language proficiency, and English language goals. The result showed that English language programs have been introduced early, and many university students still face challenges in communicating and understanding English, especially in public speaking, academic essay writing, and comprehending scientific articles. Low confidence and limited vocabulary are the main obstacles.

Abstract

This study delves into the pivotal role of feedback in English writing instruction, a crucial element for enhancing language proficiency and writing skills among English language learners. The primary aim of the research is to examine students' perceptions of teacher feedback and to identify the types of feedback they receive, which are essential for improving teaching strategies and student outcomes. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, the research analyzed responses from 22 students, collected through a questionnaire adapted from the frameworks of Lee (2011) and Ellis & Sheen (2011) to reflect the local educational setting. The results reveal a mixed reception to teacher feedback: while it is valued for improving writing skills, it also sometimes causes confusion and anxiety due to unclear instructions or the use of complex metalinguistic symbols. The types of feedback reported include direct, indirect, and metalinguistic feedback. Direct feedback proved effective in enhancing clarity and understanding, whereas indirect and metalinguistic feedback was occasionally linked to negative emotions such as anxiety and embarrassment. Despite these challenges, the study concludes that properly structured feedback can significantly foster cognitive development, prompting students to refine their thought processes, explore ideas independently, and become adept at self-correction. This underscores the need for educators to consider both the content and delivery of feedback to maximize its effectiveness and minimize potential stressors for learners.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis surat resmi melalui model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw pada kelas VII di SMP IT Ikhlas Cendekia Lahat. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini meliputi observasi, kajian dokumen, dan tes. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan perhitungan persentasi kemampuan siswa dalam menjawab tes tertulis untuk mengetahui hasil sebelum dan sesudah dilakukan tindakan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Jigsaw memiliki dampak positif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar menulis surat resmi peserta didik yang ditandai dengan peningkatan ketuntasan belajar siswa dalam setiap siklus, yaitu pra siklus (50.00%), siklus I (70.00%), dan siklus II (90.00%). Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Jigsaw juga dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar peserta didik yang ditunjukan dengan rata-rata jawaban peserta didik yang menyatakan bahwa peserta didik tertarik dan berminat dengan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe jigsaw sehingga mereka menjadi termotivasi untuk belajar.

Abstract

ICT not only allows access to wider educational resources, but also enriches the learning experience through various digital applications and platforms. In the context of project-based learning, digital technology plays a very important role in supporting collaborative processes, facilitating communication, and providing opportunities for students to develop their English skills creatively and interactively. However, there are challenges faced in the utilization of ICT among students, especially related to the limitations of technological infrastructure and digital literacy. Perception is the process by which individuals organize and interpret stimuli from their environment to form a picture of their world. This study uses Quantitative research. Quantitative research is a type of research conducted by collecting numerical data. Researchers will use a questionnaire as an instrument in collecting data. The scale used is Likert, a choice for the questioner to measure from strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree. In this study, there were 39 students of the Public health study program at STIK Bina Husada Palembang in the 2024/2025 academic year who participated in this study, Students were asked to fill out the questionnaire adapted from Baran, E., & Maskan, A. (2021) the questionnaire filling period is November 11-12, 2024. The integration of ICT in English learning projects has been highly effective in enhancing the learning experiences of students in the Public Health Science Study Program at STIK Bina Husada Palembang. ICT tools and platforms have significantly contributed to improving discussions, project management, collaboration, and confidence in presentations, while also fostering communication and understanding through translation applications and social media. Despite the positive impact, challenges such as technical difficulties, limited internet access, and varying levels of ICT proficiency highlight areas for improvement. ABSTRAKTIK tidak hanya memungkinkan akses ke sumber daya pendidikan yang lebih luas, tetapi juga memperkaya pengalaman belajar melalui berbagai aplikasi dan platform digital. Dalam konteks pembelajaran berbasis proyek, teknologi digital memainkan peran yang sangat penting dalam mendukung proses kolaboratif, memfasilitasi komunikasi, dan memberikan kesempatan bagi siswa untuk mengembangkan keterampilan bahasa Inggris mereka secara kreatif dan interaktif. Namun, ada tantangan yang dihadapi dalam pemanfaatan TIK di kalangan siswa, terutama terkait dengan keterbatasan infrastruktur teknologi dan literasi digital. Persepsi adalah proses ketika individu mengatur dan menafsirkan rangsangan dari lingkungan mereka untuk membentuk gambaran tentang dunia mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian Kuantitatif. Penelitian kuantitatif merupakan jenis penelitian yang dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data numerik. Peneliti akan menggunakan kuesioner sebagai instrumen dalam mengumpulkan data. Skala yang digunakan adalah Likert, pilihan bagi penanya untuk mengukur dari sangat setuju, setuju, netral, tidak setuju, dan sangat tidak setuju. Dalam penelitian ini, terdapat 39 mahasiswa program studi Kesehatan Masyarakat STIK Bina Husada Palembang tahun ajaran 2024/2025 yang mengikuti penelitian ini, Mahasiswa diminta untuk mengisi kuesioner yang diadaptasi dari Baran, E., & Maskan, A. (2021) periode pengisian kuesioner adalah 11-12 November 2024. Integrasi TIK dalam proyek pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan pengalaman belajar mahasiswa di Program Studi Ilmu Kesehatan Masyarakat STIK Bina Husada Palembang. Alat dan platform TIK telah berkontribusi secara signifikan untuk meningkatkan diskusi, manajemen proyek, kolaborasi, dan kepercayaan diri dalam presentasi, sementara juga mendorong komunikasi dan pemahaman melalui aplikasi penerjemahan dan media sosial. Meskipun berdampak positif, tantangan seperti kesulitan teknis, akses internet terbatas, dan berbagai tingkat kemahiran TIK menyoroti area yang perlu ditingkatkan.

Abstract

The objective of this research was survey the students’ ability in writing a descriptive text of midwifery students of STIK Bina Husada and STIKES Aisyiyah. It was a survey research, 40 students majoring Midwifery as the sample of this research taken by using total sampling. The data were obtained by using writing test. To verify the hypotheses, the primary data were analyzed by using pre and post test and paired sample t rest by means of Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) 20th version computer program. Based on the data analysis, the influencing  of descriptive essay strategy to the students’ writing on paired sample t test were t-obtained was 6.091. from the data of both places there were improvement of students’ achievement from their pretest to posttest. It can be stated that the descriptive essay strategy can improve the students’ writing achievement.

konteks akademik dan professional. Dalam penulisan ilmiah, penggunaan parafrasa menjadi sangat penting dalam menghindari plagiarisme dan memperkaya kosakata yang digunakan. Dengan menggunakan variasi sinonim dan ekspresi yang tepat, kita dapat menghindari pengulangan kata yang membosankan dan menciptakan variasi dalam gaya penulisan. Tujuan diadakan kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa Program Studi Ilmu Keperawatan STIK Bina Husada Palembang dalam melakukan parafrasa dengan penggunaan persamaan kata dan struktur teks. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 29 Mei 2023, yang dilaksanakan melalui zoom meeting objek kegiatan ini adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Ilmu Keperawatan STIK Bina Husada Palembang, sebanyak 34 mahasiswa berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa Program Studi Keperawatan STIK Bina Husada Palembang terbagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu: mereka yang berhasil parafrase dan 4 mahasiswa yang belum berhasil. Diharapkan mahasiswa dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata baik dalam bahasa Indonesia maupun dalam bahasa Inggris.
