Abstract

Abstrak Hadirnya platform website blog seperti Kompasiana, menjadi tanda berkembangnya demokrasi partisipan user atau masyarakat. Kompasiana memberikan alternatif penting bagi netizen atau masyarakat online untuk melakukan transfer dan produksi informasi, atau bahkan membangun opini publik. Hal ini yang tidak dapat dilakukan sebelumnya di dalam media mainstream baik itu media cetak dan media elektronik. Fenomena Kompasiana ini kemudian ini merupakan kritik terhadap media mainstream khususnya televisi dan koran yang menampilkan konten hanya untuk kepentingan bisnis dan politik dari para cukong media. Oleh karena itu, pokok bahasan awal di dalam artikel ini fokus menyingkap fenomena-fenomena ruang publik media massa yang semakin suram. Berikutnya, lahirnya citizen journalism sebagai alternatif penting untuk mengimbangi dan sekaligus melawan sirkulasi informasi yang lebih ditentukan oleh wartawan, redaksi media massa. Pada poin pembahasan yang ketiga, artikel ini membahas fenomena Kompasiana sebagai kritik terhadap kuasa informasi yang dibingkai oleh gate keeper media massa. Kompasiana menjadi sebuah ruang publik yang memberikan otoritas bagi netizen untuk mengontrol dan memproduksi informasi.

Abstract

The object of this paper is the social condition of domestic digital music. The background of this paper is based on the global data that thirty billion songs are downloaded illegally in the period of 2004-2009, with a loss of $17-40 billion. Illegal music downloading is also occurred in Indonesia. Based on the survey of non-governmental organization, Heal Our Music, it was found that there are 7.920.944 illegal downloads of digital music in Indonesia each day. That number means every second there are 92 illegal downloads. Thus, the author mapped three points of the discussion which are the reality of domestic piracy, supporting the copyright of music creative industry, and literacy for music lovers. The conclusion of this paper is that the copyright laws are still inadequate. The government have to provide technical systems to download music legally and cheaply for music lovers. Abstract

This study investigates the relationships among social media switching behavior, social fatigue, and academic performance among Generation Z university students. Despite the pervasive use of social media among this demographic, there is a lack of understanding of how social media switching affects academic outcomes and well-being. To address this research gap, a mixed-methods approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, analyzing data from a survey of 200 first-year Communication Science students in the State University of Surabaya (Unesa), Indonesia. The results reveal a statistically significant positive correlation between frequent social media account switching and higher academic performance, but no significant relationships between social media switching and social fatigue, or between social fatigue and academic performance. By understanding these collectivist dynamics between social media usage, academic performance, and social fatigue, this will provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers to develop strategies that promote a healthier balance between digital engagement and academic responsibilities.

Abstract

This research is based on the phenomenon of underground music in Indonesia, which, although a minority, influences social criticism through distinctive lyrics and musical styles. The aim of this study is to understand how Tanam Karya applies communication management strategies to voice social criticism. The research utilizes Communication Management Theory (POAC) as a conceptual framework, employing qualitative analysis methods including direct observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. The findings indicate that Tanam Karya has successfully implemented effective communication management strategies. In the planning stage, they select relevant social issues such as injustice and environmental pollution. In organizing, they effectively manage resources and establish a structured organizational framework. During implementation, Tanam Karya utilizes social media and public activities to convey messages about social awareness and diversity. Systematic control and evaluation ensure that each event is assessed to rectify weaknesses and enhance efficiency.

Abstract

The State University of Surabaya (UNESA), the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, and the Bojonegoro Regency Government initiated an RPL program collaboration, offering opportunities to all village officials in Bojonegoro Regency who have not yet obtained a bachelor's degree to have their various experiences and work portfolios assessed against the learning outcomes of courses in higher education. This RPL program, specifically for village officials, is the first of its kind in Indonesia. So, it encourages researchers to use case study research methods. This research discusses the importance of communication management, as many actors and institutions within UNESA are responsible for implementing this RPL collaboration. The students from village officials studying at the undergraduate level in five study programs selected by UNESA. UNESA's communication management in managing RPL is evident in the inter-institutional communication content that regulates their respective duties and functions, so these institutions structurally have a coordinating function and are responsible to the Rector. The communication flow between institutions within UNESA is formally regulated, and its channels are written. Conversely, in the classroom between lecturers and RPL students, communication management is more equal in community service and joint research programs.

Abstract

Indonesia adalah negara multicultural dengan berbagai perbedaan yang ada, terlebih khusus SARA. Tidak dapat dipungkiri Indonesia rentan dengan konflik horizontal. Agama adalah isu yang sangat sensitif. Salah satu cara guna menurunkan masalah tersebut yaitu dengan mengadakan Interfaith Dialogue. Dengan melakukan komunikasi yang bersifat aktif dalam membahas isu perdamaian berlandaskan kitab suci diharapkan mampu memberi dampak yang signifikan. Komunitas anak muda yang bergerak dalam isu tersebut diharapkan mampu membawa dampak perubahan. Young Interfaith Peacemaker Community di Kota Surabaya merupakan komunitas yang cukup menarik karena banyak sekali pola komunikasi yang mampu memberi perubahan. Karena itu, peneliti menggunakan teori Komunikasi Multikultural dalam meneliti Interfaith Dialogue. Peneliti melakukan penelitian dengan pendekatan Kualitatif dan metode Studi Kasus. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah membuktikan bahwa dengan adanya dialog yang terjadi secara terus menerus dapat memiliki perubahan yang mampu menyebarkan nilai perdamaian di tengah masyarakat.

Abstract

Poverty is one of the problems in Probolinggo Regency, the Probolinggo Regency Social Service has made various efforts to reduce the level of poverty. One of them is through a Joint Business Group (KUBE)-based empowerment program such as that carried out for the Harapan Family KUBE in Asembagus Village, Kraksaan District, Probolinggo Regency. The success of this program in reducing the level of poverty is closely related to the empowerment communication carried out by the Probolinggo Regency Social Service. In this regard, the aim of this research is to determine the empowerment communication applied in the KUBE Keluarga Harapan empowerment program so that it can be as successful as it is now using Miles and Huberman's analysis and Wilbur Schramm's communication theory.. This research is qualitative research with a case study method. Data was obtained from interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research show that the KUBE-based empowerment program carried out by the Probolinggo Regency Social Service uses the concept of participatory empowerment communication. Coordination carried out with various parties gave rise to consensus and synergy in making the program a success. Group mentors also build good relationships with the group they accompany so that it has an impact on the survival and sustainability of the group.

Abstract

The development of information technology and information signifies the progress of mass media, such as television. The television industry in Indonesia has experienced rapid growth, with the emergence of various local to national television stations competing to meet public interests. With digital advancements, teenagers' interest in watching television tends to decline due to the presence of new media platforms with easier access. Adolescents prefer digital content such as social media and streaming videos over watching television, especially considering the presentation of content.Given these issues, the researcher aims to understand teenagers' perspectives regarding public television in the era of social media. This study aims to explore teenagers' perceptions of TVRI as a local public broadcasting media. The concept of perception used in this research is derived from Deddy Mulyana's book, encompassing three processes: sensation, attention, and interpretation. This is a qualitative research study utilizing a case study method. Data collection is obtained through Focus Group Discussions (FGD).The findings of this research indicate that, from the perspective of teenagers, TVRI Jawa Timur's programs still require the development of innovative content to capture their interest. The process of forming perceptions among teenagers aligns with the concept outlined by Deddy Mulyana, involving sensation, attention, and interpretation.

Abstract

Desa Tambak Cemandi memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan pariwisata berbasis masyarakat, namun masih terkendala oleh rendahnya literasi digital, minimnya strategi komunikasi, dan belum optimalnya promosi destinasi wisata secara mandiri. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas literasi digital masyarakat melalui pendekatan integratif berupa pelatihan, Forum Group Discussion, dan pendampingan intensif. Metode partisipatif diterapkan untuk melibatkan perangkat desa, pemuda, kelompok sadar wisata, dan pelaku UMKM dalam proses penguatan kemampuan digital dan komunikasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan peserta dalam mengelola media sosial, mengisi konten website desa, serta membuat narasi promosi digital. Terjadi pula perubahan positif dalam cara pandang masyarakat terhadap promosi berbasis komunitas. Pendampingan ini tidak hanya meningkatkan keterampilan individu, tetapi juga membentuk sinergi antar pemangku kepentingan untuk membangun identitas digital desa yang berkelanjutan. Program ini membuktikan bahwa literasi digital yang dikembangkan secara kolaboratif mampu menjadi katalis transformasi menuju desa digital.
