Abstract

The trade war that occurred between United States and China extended to the technology sector. The two countries are competing in the development of 5G networks. China, through Huawei, which is a pioneer in the development of 5G networks, has faced confrontation from the U.S. government by ban Huawei from operate their business in North America. This article will discuss about the restriction policy on Huawei by the United States of America during Donald Trump's presidency. The United States places restrictions on Huawei based on suspicious that 5G network developed by Huawei can be misused by China government as an espionage tool. This article attempts to analyze the reasons that led to the United States during Donald Trump's presidency imposing restrictive policies on a telecommunications company from China, Huawei. In this article the authors used a qualitative explanatory research method. In analyzing the restriction policy against Huawei, researchers use the concept of national interest and national security concept. Researchers found that the United States placed restrictions on Huawei because the 5G network developed by Huawei might be misused by the Chinese government as and espionage tool against the United States state, companies, and people so that it has the potential to threaten the national security of the United States. Also, through this restriction policy, the United States intends to stem China's hegemony in geopolitical information. Hopefully, this article will provide new insight for future discussion about restriction policy by the United States to Huawei.

Abstract

Abstract

The persistent challenge of global environmental degradation underscores the critical need to evaluate the efficacy of international environmental regimes (IERs). This study conducts a rigorous comparative analysis of the Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement to identify determinants of regime effectiveness, conceptualized through compliance, empowerment, and socialization. Employing a mixed-methods approach—including qualitative document analysis, semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, and quantitative assessment of emission data—we examine how regime design, contextual factors, and actor commitment influence outcomes. Our findings reveal that effectiveness is significantly constrained by structural asymmetries in commitments, inadequate verification mechanisms, and divergent national interests. While the Paris Agreement’s polycentric architecture offers greater adaptability, its reliance on voluntary Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) risks ambition gaps. The Kyoto Protocol’s binding targets suffered from limited participation and enforcement incapacity. We conclude that robust effectiveness requires adaptive frameworks integrating legally binding elements with equitable burden-sharing, stringent monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, and enhanced legitimacy through inclusive governance. Policy implications emphasize redesigning compliance incentives and strengthening transnational accountability networks.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of land-based green and ocean-based blue economies, which remain separately governed despite shared relevance to the SDGs and Paris Agreement. Analyzing five national through a comparative case study method, it identifies four integration models, i.e (1) necessity-driven, (2) technocratically-driven, (3) opportunity-driven, and (4) fragmented. Those are shaped by local political-economic factors. A key finding is a governance trilemma, where mobilizing finance, controlling cross-boundary externalities, and ensuring procedural justice are rarely balanced. The article advances beyond normative calls for integration by specifying conditions for success or failure, and offers a diagnostic tool for policymakers. It concludes that effective green-blue integration demands context-sensitive architectures that jointly address finance, externalities, and justice as foundations for resilience and equity.

Abstract

This study aims to explain in detail the implications of the trade war on multinational companies with a case study of Starbucks expansion in China. The background behind the outbreak of the trade war itself stems from the United States accusing China of illegal practices stealing intellectual property and the United States' growing trade deficit. The trade war by the United States with the imposition of tariffs on several imported products, aims to protect domestic industries and increase employment. However, compared to the benefits, the trade war actually has a negative impact on US industry, both at home and abroad, especially for companies investing in China. Most of the industrial sectors affected are the manufacturing sector, while Starbucks is a multinational company in the food & beverage retail sector. Thus, this study will show that not all companies or industries will be affected by the trade war phenomenon, one of which is Starbucks.
