Abstract

Keywords: Muslim Progresif, Kritik Ganda, Terlibat Dalam Tradisi dan Modernitas, neo-modernisme, post-tradisionalisme Abstract This article examines the idea of Progressive Muslims as represented by Muslim Americans because of the horror and shock of the loss of innocent lives on 9/11. Added to this is the damage to the reputation of the Muslim community in many places due to events that give the impression that Islam is not compatible with the spirit of this globalized era. The spirit of disseminating Progressive Muslim ideas can be an alternative that enlivens the Islamic discourse that is taking place in Indonesian society. However, contextualization in Indonesia is also proposed by looking back at the ideas of neo-modernism and post-traditionalism which have been substantially longer in existence. By using a meta-synthesis which is an interpretative synthesis of qualitative data this research takes place. Progressive Muslim ideas have the ambition to place Islam in a position that is in line with the progress of modernity but still grounded in tradition, with a critical spirit towards both. Keywords: Progressive Muslim, Double Criticism, Involved in Tradition and Modernity, Neo-modernism, Post-traditionalism

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of developing social theology to revitalize civil society. After two decades of reform, many people have stated that Indonesia's civil society was slowly fading. It was worried that it would reduce the power of democracy previously fought by all elements of society. The access opened to political articulation for political Islam groups is alleged to be the main reason. Islamic political parties or Islamic mass-based political parties are more attractive to Islamic activists. The articulation of Islam is finally understood only as a search for power accommodated in a subordinating manner. We must respect the participation of Nahdlatul 'Ulama and Muhammadiyah in taking part as a civil society power, especially during the New Order era, in which the articulation of Islam socially and culturally seems very strong. This is the bibliographical research with the method of meta-analysis or meta-synthesis. This meta-synthesis explains several syntheses that originate from the convergence of various qualitative reports that produce new interpretations. This research results in the importance of developing and spreading social theology in Muslim society. Social theology is understood as a belief that is in favor of humanity. This theology places the defense of society as the main thing. In this way, it is essential to develop social theology so that civil society always grows and develops alongside Indonesian democracy. The novelty of this research is the theological synthesis in developing Islamic social movements in making civil society.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the thoughts of Ibn Rushd, particularly regarding the concept of the relationship between Sharia (religion) and Hikmah (philosophy) through the principle of double truth, and to explore its potential as a philosophical foundation for the development of integrative knowledge in Islamic Religious Higher Education (PTKI). This study also seeks to address the stigma that views Ibn Rushd as being in opposition to Islamic orthodoxy as upheld by al-Ghazali. By employing a qualitative approach through content analysis of Ibn Rushd’s major works on demonstrative philosophy (burhani reasoning), this research explores the relevance of his thought in integrating religious and general sciences within PTKI. A contextual analysis is conducted to understand the challenges and opportunities for applying his philosophy in Indonesia, where it has received relatively little attention compared to the Western world. The findings indicate that Ibn Rushd’s demonstrative philosophy, which emphasizes demonstrative logic and empirical observation, offers a robust methodological framework to support the integration of knowledge within PTKI. The burhani approach can serve as an epistemological foundation that bridges the dichotomy between religious and general sciences while contributing to the development of a holistic curriculum. This study provides a theoretical contribution by reaffirming the relevance of Ibn Rushd’s thought in shaping a rational and empirical paradigm of Islamic higher education. Additionally, it opens a space for discussion on the role of Islamic philosophy in addressing the challenges of religious education in the modern era.

Abstract

Mediation is an effort to resolve cases that are integrated with the judicial process. However, successful mediation is often seen only in withdrawing the lawsuit completely and ignoring other things. This research aims to determine the form of successful mediation from a normative juridical and sociological perspective. The research method used by researchers is normative juridical research with a statutory approach, by conducting a comprehensive study of primary legal materials, namely PERMA No. 1 of 2016 concerning Mediation Procedures in Court and secondary legal materials, namely articles about mediation. The research results obtained prove that mediation is a mandate from PERMA No. 1 of 2016 expected to resolve cases without going through examination at trial. Referring to Articles 29, 30, and 31 PERMA No. 1 of 2016, it can be understood that the form of a peace agreement through mediation can be said to be successful not only when the lawsuit regarding the object of the case is completely withdrawn. The withdrawal of some of the defendants and some of the objects of the case can also be said to be successful mediation in normative juridical terms. However, sociologically successful forms of mediation can be seen from the mediation that has been carried out by several Religious Courts in Indonesia which shows that the success of mediation is represented by the withdrawal of the entire lawsuit, although this does not deny the withdrawal of some of the defendants or objects of the lawsuit. However, it is as if the withdrawal of some of the defendants or objects of the lawsuit is considered not the real success of the mediation.

Abstract

The color green is one of the most common colors, especially in nature. The Qur'an contains verses that discuss the color green using the terms khaḍira and hāmmah. There are eight verses in the Quran that contain the term khaḍira and one verse with the term hāmmah, both of which refer to the color green. This research aims to examine or reveal the meanings of the color green in the Quranic verses using Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis. This is a library research with a qualitative approach. The method used by the author was thematic interpretation with the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Pierce. The results of the research showed: first, the various meanings of the color green in the Quran refer to plants or vegetation, wheat stalks, the earth, wood, and the facilities of the inhabitants of paradise. In addition, the study also obtained results from Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis, which includes the object, the representamen, and the interpretant. The initial meaning of the term khaḍira in these verses becomes the representamen. The original meaning is green as part of the color spectrum. The interpretants are the meanings obtained through the author's interpretation and analysis. Among the meanings obtained are tranquility, growth, energy, fertility, life, pleasure, and peace.

Abstract

This article examines the arguments for accepting democracy from an Islamic perspective after the conservative turn in Indonesia. The idea of democracy in the Islamic context revolves around several mainstream arguments as theological and sociological justifications. On the other hand, the Muslim community tends to be opposed and allergic to the concept of secularization, which in some ways, is a mandatory requirement for the establishment of a strong democracy. Though some Islamic scholars argue that Islam and democracy are compatible, the role of secularism is important to be emphasized. This research is a descriptive qualitative method included in the library research category. The qualitative description method is used because of its suitability to the topic and focus of the study. This research shows that recent developments in Muslim acceptance of democracy that does not require secularism in Indonesia after the conservative turn provide proof that the tracheotomy can be united. Furthermore, several political events in Indonesia have revealed how both Islamic political parties and Islamic intellectuals have contributed to the development of liberal democracy. So this study implies that whereas Islam, democracy and secularism were originally considered a trichotomy that cannot be harmonized, the political results in Indonesia have disproved it. In particular, the dynamics of Islamic political development in Indonesia decades after the conservative turn shows that liberal democracy will reach peak development in the coming years.

Abstract

This study examines the adaptation of religious practices by Muslim communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating the unique challenges of reconciling religious adherence with the imperative to follow scientifically informed health protocols. This research investigates how the general populace integrates Islamic religious practices within a global health crisis framework by employing qualitative research methods, including interviews, observations, and literature analysis. The principal findings highlight that compliance with health protocols as a manifestation of governmental obedience does not mean abandoning the faith but increasing it. This observation points towards the emergence of post-secular religiosity, wherein communities do not relinquish their beliefs in favour of scientific knowledge. Ultimately, this study offers crucial insights into the spiritual resilience exhibited by Muslim communities when confronted with a public health crisis.

Abstract

This article aims to illustrate how the phenomenological approach developed by Richard C. Martin can be used to strengthen post-Orientalist Islamic studies. In this article, we outline the key concepts in phenomenology according to Richard C. Martin, including intuition, description, and reflection. This article then explains how this approach can be applied to Islamic studies. Using a phenomenological approach, researchers can gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of religious experiences in Islam. Furthermore, this article discusses the benefits and implications of phenomenology in Islamic studies. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review type of research, which means that data are collected from various existing sources, such as books, journals, articles, and writings related to the study of Islam through phenomenology in the view of Richard C. Martin. The use of a phenomenological approach can help overcome some of the challenges in Islamic studies, such as researchers’ subjectivity and diversity of interpretation. Using this approach, researchers can explore a broader understanding of the diversity of religious experiences in Islam and respect individual perspectives. In conclusion, this article presents the phenomenological approach developed by Richard. Martin could be a useful tool for strengthening Islamic studies. By understanding religious experiences in Islam through a phenomenological lens, researchers can achieve a deeper understanding and encourage dialog and understanding between individual Muslims and non-Muslims inherited by old orientalists.
