Abstract

This article describe differences of mystical term (furuq lugawiyyah) in the Qur’an with unsynonymity approach (diddu taraduf). For example, between taubah and ina>bah, the body and organ, and so on. No one has done studies like it, so this is importent study for avoid confusion of the basic concepts of mystical in the Qur’an. Because, between one word with else hasn’t synonymity meaning (taraduf), but there is a closeness meaning. Then, this study just focused on mystical terms. The final results expected is appeared the Encyclopaedia of Sufism like al-Furuq al-Lugawiyyah as-Sufiyyah al-Qur’aniyyah.

Abstract

The endeavor to search philosophical foundation to develop the curriculum of Islamic sciences in the Islamic Religion College (PTAI) has been done. As the Ministry of National Education (MONE), for example, which has spawned a thematic-integrated curriculum model, it should have been by Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA), PTAI, in this case, must also have the characteristic of integrative curriculum. The first and major step in the process to find the model, must be preceded by searching philosophical foundation, whether it uses one pillar, two pillars, three pillars, and so on? To find this philosophical foundation, the authors use 'model theory' on the relationship between religion and science, which is patterned into several types of models, namely: monadic (religion), dyadic (religion and science), triadic (religion, philosophy, and science), and so on. All three models are also identical with some kind of form of the  relationship between science, namely: mono-disciplinary and intra-disciplinary (monadic); interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary (dyadic), as well as trans-disciplinary (triadic). As a result, one of the alternative philosophical foundation that can be used to develop the curriculum of Islamic sciences in PTAI is “triadic” model and it is a model of Integration-Interconnection Curriculum.

Abstract

One of the controversial issues in religious practice in contemporary Indonesia is concerned with the noise raising from places of religious worship. This study aims to explain the pros and cons of Indonesia's state policy on the guidelines for using loudspeakers in Muslim places of worship (mosques and musallas). The primary data is obtained from state regulations (Indonesia Ministry of Religious Affairs) regarding guidelines for using loudspeakers. The secondary data is gathered from relevant literature sources. The current study employed content and thematic analyses in qualitative research. This study finds the concept of loudspeaker moderation as an alternative for resolving the pros and cons of the state policy regarding the regulation of the use of loudspeakers. Loudspeaker moderation integrates three pillars, namely the landmark (mosque), the soundmark (azan), and the ethicmark (guidelines for the use of loudspeaker), toward the soundworld. The study findings may have implications for factors that may provide a rational understanding of the policy on regulating loudspeakers in places of worship, especially in mosques and musallas throughout Indonesia.

Abstract

The epistemology of Islamic law studies has shifted from an atomization model towards an integration one. The integration of Islamic law epistemology includes the subjective, objective, and intersubjective types. The epistemological integration model in this field has become a crucial discourse at the State Islamic University (Universitas Islam Negeri – UIN) of Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Accordingly, the current article discusses the shifting of paradigms in epistemology of Islamic law studies at the Faculty of Sharī’a and Law (Fakultas Sharī’ah dan Hukum - FSH) UIN Sunan Kalijaga of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Document study in qualitative research was employed as a research methodology in this study. The sources of data were obtained from the writings of intellectuals at FSH UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The analysis in this article was done by using Ṭāhā ‘Abdurraḥmān’s theory of integrative epistemology, through the integration between philosophical epistemology, i.e., subjective, objective, and intersubjective reasoning, and historical epistemology, i.e., early, middle, and late periods. The research found the integrative-intersubjective type of Islamic law studies as the scientific mentality of a Muslim jurist who is capable of creatively integrating subjective-objective-intersubjective reasonings and early-middle-late periods, to address issues of Islamic law in the contemporary era. This finding has implications in shaping a moderate reasoning of Islamic law studies, which is neither extremely subjective on the one hand nor extremely objective on the other.

Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the phenomenon of religious politics in Indonesia using Francis Fukuyama's concept of thymos. The 1945 constitution of Indonesia guaranteed the freedom of religion, yet on the one hand, it also provided explanations for six beliefs as definitive religions. This triggers the marginalization of adherents of traditional beliefs, with their rights not fully accommodated by the state. Thymos shape social and political life, and individuals or groups, when feeling that their thymotic needs are not met, may demand political recognition. Fukuyama explains two patterns of thymos: 1) isothymia, referring to the desire for equal recognition in terms of dignity, values, and identity, and 2) megalothymia, representing the desire for recognition as superior. The findings in this article indicate that religious identity politics in Indonesia are reflected through these two patterns of isothymia and megalothymia, evident in the tumultuous journey of marginalized local belief identities and in identity politics directed towards religion-based dominations.

Abstract

Corruption is not just a symptom, it has become a culture. In essence, corruption is a form of structural violence and cultural violence. Various approaches have been offered to provide solutions to eradicating corruption, but the results have not been optimal. In this paper, we will examine various approaches in various scientific disciplines (multidisciplinary: anthropology, morals, philosophy, law and education) to the problem of corruption, including multiple interpretations of terms, to be able to provide a comprehensive understanding. From an anthropological perspective, for example, corruption originates from the traditional concept of tribute, and this tribute tradition originates from the concept of offerings. Then in Islam there are also those who transcend the concept of tribute into zakat, and the concept of offerings with udhiyyah. In another perspective, these efforts include; moral force movement, dualism demarcation tactics and deliberative democracy (communicative action), criminal action (theft), and anti-corruption curriculum.

Abstract

This article examines godly nationalism using the theory of secularism. This connection is based on a shared "we-feeling" rooted in the common belief systems fostered by cooperation between the state and religious organizations (NU, Muhammadiyah, Persis). Jeremy Menchik argues that violence against Ahmadiyya should be viewed as "productive intolerance" rather than merely damaging democracy, as it is intended to protect this religious bond. The concept of godly nationalism has been criticized for neglecting religious freedom as a human right. This concept also overemphasizes macro-level data while failing to explain the local realities experienced by Ahmadiyya. The primary data for this research is Menchik's book titled "Islam and Democracy in Indonesia: Tolerance Without Liberalism,” then, it will be analyzed theoretically by borrowing Jose Casanova's secularism theory. This article found that the absence of secularism discourse throughout his work influenced his stance in understanding the nuances of religious intolerance in Indonesia. According to Menchik, Indonesia is viewed as a moderate country, but not in the form of binary opposition, as seen in the genealogy of secularism in the Western world, where religion is often positioned with certain negative prepositions.

Abstract

The ideas of Sufism actually do not recognize the identity of its followers, male or female. Women in Sufism have an important position so that their ideas need to be explored. One of the efforts to find the ideas of female Sufis is through Sufi hagiographic texts (ṭabaqāt). This research discusses the formation of the authority of female Sufis based on their ideas through one of the classic Sufi hagiographic texts by as-Sulamī. This type of research is qualitative, based on document research, and uses the analytical-descriptive method. The primary source is a female Sufi hagiography text by as-Sulamī entitled Żikr an-Niswah al-Muta'abbidāt as-Ṣūfiyyāt. Secondary sources are other classical Sufi hagiography texts such as those by al-Iṣfahānī, al-Harawī, al-Qusyairī, al-Hujwīrī, al-Jāmī, Ibn al-Jauzī, and 'Aṭṭār, as a well as supporting authoritative books and articles. The findings of this study show that, in addition to recognizing the existence of female Sufis, as-Sulamī managed to record their various statements that are full of Sufism ideas and this showed their authority in this tradition. The author collects their Sufism ideas in two main ideas; Tazkiyyah an-Nafs and Sufistic Ethics. The idea of Tazkiyyah an-Nafs is contained in their narratives which envision that humans can establish a positive relationship between themselves and their God. Meanwhile, the idea of Sufistic Ethics is contained in their narratives which discourse that the positive relationship between humans and their God, must form a similar thing between themselves and His creatures.
