Abstract

The aim of this study is to convert Nigella sativa black seed extract from liquid phase into solid phase by microencapsulation using spray drying method. The benefits hoped from this research are obtaining the dry extract to be formulated into pharmaceutical variable dosage forms in order to increase the usefulness and variability products of Nigella sativa black seed extract. The spray drying method was done by adding Nigella sativa black extract into the gum arabic and maltodextrin solution. The evaluation of microencapsulated extract is including drug content, encapsulation efficiency, flow properties, compressibility, angle of repose, moisture content, particel size distribu-tion and microstructure of microcapsules. The result showed that microencapsula-tion of Nigella sativa black seed extract can be produced by spray drying method. The highest microencapsulation efficiency is at the coating solution concentration of 20% (gum arabic : maltodextrin = 50 : 50) and Nigella sativa black extract percentage of 30%.

Abstract

Inadequate management of chemotherapy-induced side effects, including nausea and vomiting, can impact the healing response of cancer patients. Ondansetron, a preferred medication for the treatment, is classified as a biopharmaceutic classification system (BCS) class II drug, which limits its bioavailability. To enhance its solubility, sodium starch glycolate (SSG) and pregelatinized starch (PG) are used as super disintegrants. This study investigates the impact of these super disintegrants on ondansetron dissolution and identifies the optimal formulation. Ondansetron tablets were prepared using the wet granulation method, with nine formulations varying in SSG and PG concentrations (0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%). The tablets underwent physical and chemical quality evaluations. The results indicate that ondansetron dissolution improved with SSG and PG at concentrations of 1% and 3% but decreased at higher concentrations (5% and 7%). Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in dissolution fraction parameters and efficiency across varying SSG and PG concentrations (p < 0.05). The optimal formulation for enhancing ondansetron dissolution was found to be with 3% PG, achieving a dissolution efficiency value of 79.88% + 0.11%.

Abstract

Kesehatan personel TNI merupakan aspek vital dalam memastikan keberlanjutan dan efektivitas operasional. Dalam era globalisasi dan kompleksitas tantangan kesehatan, riset Life Science dan bioteknologi menjadi kunci untuk meningkatkan kesehatan personel TNI. Pengembangan vaksin dan produk biologi lainnya menjadi strategis dalam menjaga kesehatan personel TNI di tengah berbagai ancaman penyakit yang terus berkembang. BASTRAK bertujuan untuk meningkatkan peran riset Life Science dan bioteknologi dalam pengembangan vaksin dan produk biologi lainnya untuk meningkatkan derajat kesehatan personel TNI. BASTRAK akan memfasilitasi kolaborasi antara lembaga riset, perguruan tinggi, dan institusi kesehatan terkemuka untuk menggalang pengetahuan dan sumber daya dalam pengembangan vaksin dan produk biologi. Melalui upaya peningkatan peran riset Life Science dan bioteknologi, BASTRAK bertekad untuk memajukan kesehatan personel TNI dengan cara yang berkelanjutan dan inovatif. Dengan kolaborasi yang kuat dan fokus pada keunggulan ilmiah, kami yakin bahwa kita dapat mencapai tujuan ini demi kesejahteraan personel TNI dan keamanan nasional.
