Abstract

Background: Inaccuracy of rice portions for diets is related to the use of non-standard portioning tools. Objectives: This study aimed to develop a standardized rice portioning device for hospitalized inpatients. Methods: The process of tool design used AutoCAD software with three-dimensional parameter input that was equivalent to a portion of 150g, 200g, and 250g of steam rice. The tools were printed using a 3D printer with a food-safe Polylactic Acid filament as the base material. The accuracy of the portioning tools was measured by weighing and comparing the weight of the rice served with the hospital's standard portion. Results and conclusions: The portioning tools (150g, 200g, and 250g) have the same diameter of the base (54 mm), the surface diameters (mm) are 105.5; 105.0, 103.4, respectively; and the heights (mm) are 37; 51; and 65 respectively. The portioning devices have very good accuracy (99.2% - 100.3%) of the standard hospital portion, much better than the tools commonly used by hospitals (72-129%). They are also easy to use, easy to clean, light, and durable. Recommendation: It is recommended that the hospital use the tools for a more accurate rice portion and in accordance with established dietary standards.

Abstract

Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem that requires the active involvement of health cadres as the frontline workers in Integrated Health Posts (Posyandu). This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge, motivation, and skills of health cadres in preventing stunting in Kampung Jawa Village, Solok City. The participants were 47 health cadres who attended a training session on July 30, 2025, at PAUD Kasih Mama. The implementation methods included preparation, educational sessions using lectures and discussions, practical training on measuring body weight and height, recording data in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) handbook, and monitoring and evaluation through a knowledge test. The results showed that 81.0% of cadres had good knowledge, while 19.0% had low knowledge. All cadres (100%) were able to perform anthropometric measurements, record data in the MCH handbook, and provide education to mothers of toddlers at Posyandu. In conclusion, cadre empowerment effectively improved the capacity of health cadres in stunting prevention and should be implemented continuously to support the acceleration of stunting reduction in Solok City.

Abstract

The working area of the Sirukam Public Health Center, Payung Sekaki Subdistrict, Solok Regency, is a region with the highest prevalence of stunting in the area. This issue is closely related to the low quality of nutritional parenting practices among housewives, particularly in the utilization and processing of local food ingredients. This community service activity aims to implement nutritional parenting practices to support stunting prevention in toddlers. The methods used include education, discussions, and hands-on practice in preparing nutritious meals for toddlers using local food ingredients. The intervention was carried out in three villages using a training and household mentoring approach. Evaluation was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests to measure the improvement in knowledge and skills of mothers with toddlers. The results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge regarding the provision of balanced nutritious food for toddlers, from 42.9% (good) before the intervention to 76.3% afterward. In conclusion, intensive and continuous mentoring proved effective in improving mothers' abilities in nutritional parenting for toddlers and holds great potential in supporting efforts to accelerate stunting reduction in the area.

Abstract

This community service aimed to increase the knowledge and awareness of mothers of toddlers in preventing stunting in Kampung Jawa Village, Solok City. The activity was conducted on August 26, 2025, targeting mothers of toddlers, health workers, cadres, and community leaders. The implementation methods included lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, pre- and post-tests of knowledge, weighing, measuring children’s height, and providing education on balanced nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, nutritious complementary feeding, and clean and healthy living behaviors. The results showed a significant improvement in mothers’ knowledge about stunting, as reflected by the majority of participants (72%) having good understanding after the intervention. This program also motivated mothers to actively monitor their children’s growth and development at the integrated health posts (posyandu). The active participation of cadres and support from local authorities further strengthened the program’s success. In conclusion, empowering mothers of toddlers proved effective in increasing awareness of stunting prevention, supporting the creation of a healthy, smart, and stunting-free generation in Kampung Jawa. This program is recommended to be continued sustainably and serve as a model for similar interventions in other areas.
