Abstract

This research is backgrounded by the fact that the use of the color sepu' as a marker of social identity for the Toraja people is no longer seen from the greatness of a person or a family, its use is also no longer seen where the tongkonan came from or from which descendants came from or were born, but the most important thing is how big a party can be done. The purpose of this study is to see the dilemma of social identity that occurs in the use of sepu' color in the implementation of traditional ceremonies in Toraja. This paper will use Jenkis' theory of social identity to see the dilemma of social identity that occurs. The method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out through literature studies and interviews, the results showed that there was a dilemma of wearing colors on sepu' in traditional ceremonial activities in Toraja that occurred from the side of the person who carried out the traditional ceremonial activities, namely from people who had a middle social class and even the lower class (tana' karurung and tana' kua-kua). The conclusion of the social identity dilemma that occurs in the use of the color sepu' is due to the factors of modernity, religious factors and the biggest is because society has experienced economic development so that it has a lot of wealth which in the end irresponsibly uses the color sepu' which should not be used. However, in all the efforts that society tries to make in order to let go of the social strata, the social strata that are actually owned and inherited will not be forgotten.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explain the use of the holy book (Bible) in the healing rituals performed by the Tona'as in Minahasa, and aims for several groups of local belief adherents in Minahasa to carry out healing rituals that use the holy book and those who do not use the holy book and There are pros and cons in healing rituals. In the experience of the Minahasa people, the use of religious books in the process of carrying out healing rituals has had pros and cons, but this problematic situation has not made religious books disappear in the implementation of rituals. Religious books cannot be separated from sacred reality, because almost all religions have beliefs about the sacred and that belief grows through religious books as a foundation for understanding various religious realities. The theoretical approach that will be used as material for analysis is the theory of religious texts, ideology, culture and community and will also use the theory of rituals from Catherine Bell and some of the severe opinions of sociologists regarding rituals. The research method used is a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The results of the study show that the ritual process which includes Christian religious books, namely the Bible, is a separate way for the local community to construct their beliefs by understanding that there is a sacredization in the ritual process.

Abstract

The presence of many beliefs and practices in society necessitates the inclusion of moderation education as a crucial component in individuals' lives, with one approach being the incorporation of local knowledge. This is crucial for fostering social cohesion. This dissertation examines and presents an overview of a specific aspect of the Tallu Lolona philosophy, specifically Lolo Tau, as a means of imparting religious moderation instruction in the lives of the diverse Toraja community. The research methodology employed is descriptive qualitative, namely in the form of a literature review. The findings indicated that the significance of Lolo Tau in the Tallu Lolona philosophy represents a cultural value derived from indigenous knowledge, which may serve as a foundation for imparting religious moderation instruction. The reason for Lolo Tau's reflection of lofty human qualities, such as compassion, honesty, and generosity, is derived from his own character, as well as from other individuals, ancestors, spirits, and the surrounding natural environment. The duty to preserve concord with other people is indissoluble from a duty to the Creator. The findings of this study suggest that religious moderation education should not just rely on interfaith dialogue or religious organizations, but may also be enhanced by including the positive qualities found in local wisdom.

Abstract

The knowledge of oral tradition as a local wisdom in Toraja society today is starting to decrease. Gradually, it is being displaced by the knowledge and teachings of religions such as Christianity and through modern knowledge. This problem is certainly something that needs to be addressed. Efforts are needed to remind Toraja people about their oral traditions so that they are not lost or forgotten. With this effort, it is hoped that oral traditions can continue to be practiced in the context of the life of Toraja people who are plural in terms of beliefs. This paper focuses on building a construction of local theology based on oral tradition, namely through Karapasan (peace/harmony) and Kasiturusan (community participation) in an effort to maintain interfaith community relations in Toraja. The research method used is qualitative method and Clemens Sedmark's theory of local theology. The results obtained show that Karapasan and Kasiturusan contain values of peace, unity, tranquility, mutual attention, and mutual cooperation. The oral tradition can be a building of local theology that needs to be kept in mind and practiced in the journey of life of the people of Tana Toraja in the midst of various different belief backgrounds. In the end, a good and close relationship between one another is maintained.
