Abstract

This research was about a multiple choice comparative study and short answer on students' reading comprehension achievement in the ninth grade of SMPN 2 Ulaweng. The problem statement of this research was there a significant difference of the students' achievement in reading comprehension by using multiple choice test and their achievement on the short answer test?. The purpose of this research was to find out a significant difference of the students‟ achievement in reading comprehension by using multiple choice test and their achievement on he short answer test as the measure of reading comprehension.This study applied a quantitative design, with a sample of 40 students divided into 2 classes. The instrument used was in the form of a test which is divided into two types of multiple choice and short answer.The results of this study indicate that the students‟ achievement in multiple choice test, higher than students‟ achievement in the short answer test. The analysis of the mean score gap between the closed test and multiple choice in the test was different. The mean score of the multiple choice was 71.5 and 47.5 short answer. From the result the researcher concluded that multiple choice test is better than short answer test to increase students‟ achievement in reading comprehension at the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ulaweng.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find students’ ability to Learn English at the tenth grade of SMAIT Ar-Rahmah Makassar. The research method is descriptive design with a quantitative approach. The population for this study is tenth-grade students at SMAIT Ar-Rahmah Makassar. The sample of this research was tenth grade, which contains 40 students. The research used Report text as the instrument of the research. The findings of the research shows that that the ability of in reading comprehension the students is quite good because the result categorize as fairly good. the level of students’ ability to learn English in Critical Reading is average. There are 74% (Fairly Good) the ability in terms of comprehension indicator. The ability of the students to Analyze the text in critical reading 68% (Fairly Good). The ability of the students in terms of Synthesis 71% (Fairly Good). The ability of the students to evaluate the report text 67% categorized as Fairly good. The highest ability of the students in terms critical reading to learn English is indicator of comprehension

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the types of errors of the third semester students of English department at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in using the infinitive and to find out the cause of the errors. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method in term of percentages. In collecting data, the researcher used writing test and interview as the research instrument. The result of this study to determine the types of errors of students in using infinitive showed that the total errors of the students in using infinitive were 63 errors. This error consists of two types of errors, namely omission and addition. In omission, there are 33 errors or 50, 77%, while in addition there are 30 errors or 46, 16%. As for the cause of the students’ errors in using infinitive, some students no not understand and do not even know what the infinitive means and the function of the infinitive.
