Abstract

This research examines new, unique Arabic terms and vocabulary used in the newspapers Indonesia Alyoum and Aswaq, two online media based in Indonesia and Malaysia, respectively, to elaborate on the development of the Arabic language in non-Arab countries. The invention of new Arabic words in these media primarily used the methods of al-taulīd bi al-iqtirāḍ, particularly al-dakhīl, and al-taulīd al-dalālī using al-tarjamah al-ḥarfiyah. Meanwhile, the method al-taulīd bi al-majāz, a metaphorical method, is to invent new, unique, local terms. However, the authors argue that both newspapers have differences in transliteration and inconsistent use of terms. In response to this language development, Malay Muslims show their potential to develop Malay-Arabic transliteration guidelines, compile a new Arabic dictionary, and even establish Southeast Asian Majma‘ al-Lugah al-‘Arabiyah.

Abstract

Nabila’s character undergoes various emotional and spiritual journeys that reflect her efforts to achieve self-actualization. However, this process does not occur instantly. Multiple factors influence Nabila’s character development, including her life experiences, social environment, personal challenges, and the values she holds. This study aims to describe the hierarchy of needs achieved by Nabila and the characteristics of her self-actualization in Najib Al-Kilani’s novel Rihlah Ilallah, using Abraham Maslow’s literary psychological perspective. Maslow’s theory emphasizes individual freedom in expressing opinions and making life choices, while also highlighting the importance of humanity’s relationship with the surrounding environment. According to Maslow, individuals reach true happiness when they attain the level of self-actualization. His humanistic theory, known as the Hierarchy of Needs, outlines human motivation as a progression through structured stages. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, drawing data from the novel Rihlah Ilallah and several relevant supporting studies. The results indicate that Nabila’s character fulfills all five levels of basic needs: physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Additionally, she displays the key traits of a self-actualized individual, including efficient perception of reality, problem-centeredness, high creativity, concern for the welfare of others, and a need for privacy.

Abstract

The development of Arabic which is influenced other language and culture is very interesting to be discussed, because Arabs themselves are not able to give a name to something that does not exist in their nature and their thought, such as naming cases, and terms that come from language and nature of thought of Indonesians. Many of these new words and terms have been featured in one of the Arabic language magazines which is Alo Indonesia. This study aims to find out how the names and terms in Indonesian discourse influenced Arabic and the problems that arise in the process of producing words in the magazine. This research is literature research that used descriptive methods, namely describing the data by concerning to how the use of new Arabic words and terms in Alo Indonesia magazine. The data collection method is done by using the “note-taking” technique which is then collected in the data card. To answer the two main problems above, the writer used Ibrahim Murad's theory of neology. The findings of this study shows that according to five theories by Ibrahim Murad, Alo Indonesia magazine uses more semantic neology theory (al-Taulĩd al-Dalalĩ) and loan neology (al-Taulĩd bi al-Iqtirād). The biggest problem in the transliteration process from Indonesian letters into Arabic is that not all vowels and consonants in Indonesian are also available simultaneously in Arabic, and so does the difficulty of finding the equivalent of idea in the expression of these two languages.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the dimension of genius, which is a cutting-edge sector that sees the subjectivity of the female by Kristeva. The main character of the novel is named Nada. This research looks at how Nada has a level of intellect and freedom within her genius dimension. Kristeva shows the dimension of female genius itself through life and thinking skills. Nada can easily enter public spaces through the power of critical thinking. The method employed in this research is qualitative descriptive. The material object is the novel Fi Qalbi Unsä Ibriyah, which serves as the research data. The data source consists of texts that are primary data, comprising dialogues, descriptions, or actions in the novel regarding the characteristics of a female’s genius. This research is based on Julia Kristeva's theory of Le Génie Féminin. The results of the research show that everything in Nada and her actions is evidence of what Kristeva refers to as the dimension of female genius. The significance of Nada's genius lies more in action, life, and thoughts. As Kristeva thought, Nada is looking at evidence of female’s talent through three dimensions. Nada builds mechanisms through self-actualization by bodily speaking and acting. She let go of the stigma that had been attached to her family tradition for a long time. Therefore, the highlight noted researchers are not at the end of the story, but on the capabilities of females and the efficiency of females’ processes over their ideas and positions. Their abilities are what Kristeva terms a feminine genius. every woman exists within her own dimension of genius, as far as she is capable of challenging the sociohistorical conditions of identity (as a woman).
