Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common complaints experienced by adolescent girls and can impact daily activities, concentration in school, and quality of life. Various non-pharmacological efforts have been developed to address dysmenorrhea, one of which is through a combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation, which is known to provide a relaxing effect, reduce anxiety, and help reduce uterine muscle spasms. The mechanisms by which aromatherapy and relaxation techniques exert their effects involve modulation of the nervous system and reduced levels of stress-related hormones, which can contribute to decreased uterine contractions and reduced pain perception. This study aims to determine the effect of administering a combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation on the intensity of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 33 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The intensity of dysmenorrhea was measured using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed a decrease in the intensity of dysmenorrhea after administering a combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation. Before the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced moderate pain, while after the intervention, most respondents experienced mild pain, and some respondents no longer felt pain. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value <0.05, indicating a significant effect of the combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation on reducing dysmenorrhea intensity in adolescent girls. This study concluded that the combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation was effective in reducing dysmenorrhea intensity in adolescent girls. Understanding the underlying mechanisms can help healthcare professionals better appreciate the potential benefits and optimize the implementation of this non-pharmacological approach.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are a vulnerable group for reproductive health problems, including risky sexual behaviors, sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy. Theory-based health education, such as the Health Belief Model (HBM) and the TRIAD-KRR framework, is considered effective in improving knowledge, strengthening risk perception, and promoting protective behaviors. However, variations in intervention delivery from face-to-face sessions and peer education to digital platforms require a comprehensive evaluation of their effectiveness. Objective: This literature review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of theory-based reproductive health education (HBM, TRIAD-KRR, and related approaches) in improving knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, and the prevention of risky sexual behaviors among adolescents. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, DOAJ, and national journal portals (Garuda, university OJS platforms, and Indonesian nursing and health journals) for articles published between 2020 and 2025. The search strategy followed the PICO framework and PRISMA 2020 guidelines using keywords related to adolescents, TRIAD-KRR, Health Belief Model, health education, and risky sexual behavior. Inclusion criteria were original research articles using quasi-experimental or randomized controlled trial designs, adolescent populations, theory-based educational interventions, and outcomes related to knowledge, attitudes, or risk behaviors. Articles were screened through title–abstract review, full-text assessment, and eligibility verification. A total of 13 studies met the criteria and were appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tools. Results: Theory-based educational interventions delivered through classroom teaching, peer-led activities, case-based learning, and digital media consistently improved adolescents’ knowledge, enhanced attitudes and self-efficacy, and reduced tendencies toward risky sexual behaviors. Conclusion: Theory-based reproductive health education is an effective and feasible strategy for preventing risky sexual behaviors among adolescents. Integrating interactive methods with digital support is recommended to sustain and strengthen program outcomes.

Abstract

Postpartum hemorrhage is a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality, including in post-cesarean section patients. The fourth stage is a critical phase in the first two hours after delivery that requires intensive monitoring to prevent bleeding. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of active management of the fourth stage on the risk of bleeding in post-cesarean section patients. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a post-test only approach with a control group. The sample consisted of 40 post-cesarean section mothers who were divided into an intervention group and a control group using a consecutive sampling technique. The intervention was in the form of implementing active management of the fourth stage during the first two hours after surgery. The variables measured included the amount of bleeding, decreased hemoglobin levels, and the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage. Data analysis used independent t-test and chi-square tests with a significance level of 0.05. Results: There was a significant difference in the amount of bleeding and decreased hemoglobin levels between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.05). The incidence of postpartum hemorrhage was lower in the group receiving active management of the fourth stage of labor. Conclusion: Active management of the fourth stage of labor effectively reduces the risk of bleeding in post-cesarean section patients and is recommended as part of standard postpartum nursing care.

Abstract

Background: Organizational green culture as a moderating role in sustainable fashion SMEs. An environmentally friendly strategy is fundamental for the survival of fashion SMEs in emerging industries. Fashion SMEs in Central Java are under considerable environmental pressure; however, little research has examined the integrative role of organizational green culture as a moderator. Objective: This study aims to investigate the impact of green knowledge management and green innovation on SME sustainability and to evaluate green culture as a moderator. Methods: The research model was designed using online questionnaires and SmartPLS, where the samples were selected using stratified random sampling, consisting of 150 fashion SMEs from six regencies in Central Java. Five direct hypotheses and two moderating hypotheses were tested using PLS-SEM with bootstrapping (n = 500 resamples). Results: The findings show that green innovation mediates the relationship between green knowledge management and sustainability, while green culture moderates the effect of green knowledge management. Green knowledge management significantly influences SME sustainability (β = 0.103, p = 0.003) and green innovation (β = 0.093, p = 0.000). Organizational green culture significantly moderates the relationship between green knowledge management and green innovation (p = 0.016), as well as the relationship between green knowledge management and sustainability (p = 0.020). Conclusion: This study provides empirical evidence that organizational green culture is a key factor in improving environmentally friendly knowledge sharing and innovative decision-making effectiveness to support equitable sustainable development for fashion SMEs in developing countries.

Abstract

Gestational anemia is a health issue that contributes to high Maternal Mortality Rates (MMR) and infant complications, such as Low Birth Weight (LBW). This study aims to determine the correlation between the frequency of tea consumption and the incidence of anemia. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional approach, with a total of 114 respondents selected via consecutive sampling. The research instruments included demographic data (maternal age, gestational age, weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference/MUAC, and hemoglobin levels) and a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate (Chi-square) analysis. The results showed a significant correlation between the frequency of tea consumption in pregnant women and the incidence of anemia (p-value 0.011). Consequently, it is recommended to limit tea intake and avoid consuming it alongside meals or supplements to maintain maternal and fetal hematological stability; this is because the tannin content in tea acts as a chelating agent for iron, thereby inhibiting intestinal absorption and decreasing hemoglobin levels.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual disorder experienced by women of reproductive age and often interferes with daily and academic activities. Non-pharmacological management is increasingly recommended to minimize the side effects of long-term analgesic use. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a combination of Benson relaxation therapy and ginger decoction on the intensity of dysmenorrhea among undergraduate students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Program, Class of 2023, at Universitas Islam Sultan Agung Semarang. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest. A total of 48 respondents were divided into intervention and control groups. The results showed that before the intervention, 91.7% of respondents in the intervention group experienced severe pain, while after the intervention, 79.2% experienced mild pain. Wilcoxon test results indicated a significant reduction in pain intensity in the intervention group (p=0.000). Mann-Whitney test results also showed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p=0.000). The combination of Benson relaxation therapy and ginger decoction was proven effective in reducing dysmenorrhea intensity.

Abstract

Menarche is a critical developmental milestone that often generates anxiety and maladaptive perceptions among adolescent girls when adequate preparedness is lacking. This study examined the effect of psychoeducational intervention on menarche readiness among female students at SD Negeri Gebangsari 01 using a school-based quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The study involved 45 fourth- and fifth-grade female students selected through total sampling. Menarche readiness was measured using a validated and reliable ordinal-scale questionnaire, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to assess within-subject changes. The findings demonstrated a significant increase in mean readiness scores from pretest to posttest, accompanied by a shift toward higher readiness categories and reduced variability in responses. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference between pre-intervention and post-intervention readiness levels (p < 0.05), indicating that the observed changes were attributable to the psychoeducational intervention. These results suggest that structured psychoeducation effectively enhances cognitive and emotional preparedness for menarche among primary school girls. The study highlights the strategic role of schools as early intervention settings for reproductive health education and supports the integration of psychoeducational programs into elementary school health promotion initiatives.
