Abstract

Background:This research aimed to discover the effectiveness of Make-A-Match model in improving the English conversation skills of students with intellectual disabilities. The participants of this research were 7th-grade students in Class C of SMPLB (Junior High School for Special Needs) JambiMethodology:The data in this applied action research were obtained by using observation, interviews, and notes. This research was conducted in 3 cycles using four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting in each cycle.Findings:The result showed that using the contextual approach to Make-A-Match model was sufficient to improve English conversation skills of students with intellectual disabilities. The students were more active, enthusiastic, and confident in uttering expressions without being anxious about making mistakes because the classroom atmosphere was relaxing and fun. This model also made students worked well together.Conclusion:through this model, the teacher succeeds in encouraging students to apply English in their daily conversation.
English Club to Improve Students’ Speaking Skills: A Case Study of an Indonesian Islamic Senior High School Desmiyanti

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the role of English Club toward successful students. This was qualitative research in the form of a case study. It took place at an Islamic Senior High School in Sungai Penuh, Jambi Province, Indonesia. It involved 4 participants: 1 teacher and 3 students. It employed an interview, observation checklist, and audiovisual recording. The findings of this research revealed that: first, the students did not maximize their chances to speak English. It was caused by the function of English Club itself which was a preparation to face debate and speech competition. However, the students got their self-confidence and speaking skills: vocabulary and fluency. Second, the teacher applied a student-centered approach. In content selection, she selected content related to national values, students’ experiences, and appropriate to the level of learning. But, she ignored local values. In teaching, she used six strategies: setting goals, providing tasks that stimulate thinking, giving responsibility, working in a group, managing time in flexible ways, and refined understanding by using critical thinking. In helping to speak English, she polished and corrected students’ language. Further, she applied peer learning. Third, the learning environments in English Club were good enough. But, cultivating responsibility in the learner was not catered. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the role of English Club was preparation to face competitions however it also improved the students’ speaking skills which increased their vocabulary, self-confidence, and fluency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan persepsi mahasiswa Ilmu Kesehatan Universitas Adiwangsa Jambi terhadap mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan teknik survey. Penelitian ini mengambil teknik total sampling yang mana berjumlah 81 responden dan merupakan mahasiswa semester ganjil tahun 2022/2023. Instrumen penelitian berupa kuesioner dan observasi tidak terstruktur. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan persepsi mahasiswa Ilmu Kesehatan terhadap mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris termasuk kategori positif. Lebih jauh, kreativitas dosen dan mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran sangat diperlukan guna mencapai kompetensi Bahasa tersebut. Kata Kunci: Persepsi, Persepsi Mahasiswa, Mata Kuliah Bahasa Inggris, dan Era Society 5.0

Abstract

Siswa tertarik dan termotivasi belajar dalam usaha untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar penulis perlu di terapkan metode pembelajaran yang relevan. Salah satu metode pembelajaran yang di anggap relavan dengan kondisi yang ada adalah menggunakan metode Drill. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Penerapan metode driil dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas X AKL SMK Negeri 2 Teluk Kuantan. Hal ini dilihat pada siklus 1 hasil belajar siswa dapat di peroleh sebesar 61,29% atau 19 siswa yang tuntas dari 31 dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 73,06 sedangkan pada siklus II terdapat peningkatan yang cukup signifikan yaitu hasil belajar siswa yang dapat diperoleh sebesar 93,55% atau 29 siswa dari 31 siswa dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 80,32.

Abstract

The potential of Instagram continues to show an increase in users from year to year. This article is motivated by the anxiety of using Instagram in improving recount text writing skills among nursing students. However, not many lecturers utilise Instagram for learning in lectures. Therefore, this article has an urgency to examine the potential utilisation of Instagram in learning to write recount text. The purpose of this research is to explore various relevant studies and literature related to the topic. The method used is a literature study, using literature sources to find out the potential and use of the media. The result of this study is that the potential of Instagram in learning to write is huge, supported by the number of students using Instagram in their activities. In addition, the use of Instagram in improving recount text writing skills has shown real results. The various features available in the media are very supportive for recount text writing activities for nursing students. The conclusion of this study is that improving writing skills with Instagram is very relevant to the competencies needed by nursing students, namely in writing clinical reports, communication, and their professionalism in the future world of work. keywords: instagram, writing skills, recount text, nursing students

Abstract

Language is a system of communication used by a community or group of people. Listening is an important skill in interacting with others in everyday life. This study aims to see how (1) The theoretical perspective of the use of Podcasts on English (2) The use of Podcasts in English courses to improve Listening Skills in Pharmacy Students. This research is a type of qualitative method through literature study. This method referred to as qualitative literature analysis, involves the review and interpretation of descriptive, interpretative, or qualitative analysis of library materials. The results of this study (1)The theoretical perspective of the use of Podcasts on English, namely based on the research that has been done, students feel the positive impact of using Podcasts in teaching English. Students have a fairly good perception of the use podcasts in improving English listening skills. (2)The use of Podcasts in improving listening skills in pharmacy students that is podcasts are able to increase understanding and absorption of information. Abstract

The Era of Society 5.0 is the era of digital transformation power. The Era of Society 5.0 provides a different perspective for innovation in supporting long-term industry to humanity. One of the technologies present in the era of society 5.0 is the ELSA Speak application which is useful for making it easier for learners to understand and use English. By conducting a theoretical study of research compilation based on systematic observation methods based on data from Science Direct and Springer, it was hoped that this research will be sharper in obtaining in-depth analysis. The results of this study indicated that (1) ELSA Speak helped English speaking skills, users in expanding vocabulary and learning commonly used phrases (2) ELSA Speak helped 1.5 billion language learners worldwide improve their English speaking skills. (3) Its limitations and challenges were this application focused more on pronunciation and lacked in teaching grammar or other aspects of learning English. In addition, the accuracy of voice analysis can be affected by accent or microphone quality. The last, the learners had to spend some money to be able to subscribe The ELSA Pro. Abstract

Proses pembelajaran kimia yang patut diberikan kepada siswa saat ini tidak hanya berfokus pada memiliki pemahaman yang lebih mendalam mengenai apa yang sedang siswa pelajari. Namun, siswa juga perlu dituntut untuk mampu bernalar kritis dan mampu penerapan konsep dalam berbagai situasi kehidupan nyata. Guru bertindak sebagai fasilitator dalam pembelajaran yang harus bisa menciptakan suasana pembelajaran kimia yang menyenangkan dan relevan. Hal ini dapat disokong dengan memfasilitasi media pembelajaran yang merangsang pikiran, perasaan, perhatian dan keterampilan siswa. Salah satu bentuk media pembelajaran tersebut adalah media board games yang dapat dimainkan secara individu maupun berkelompok. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi mengenai pemanfaatan media board games dalam pembelajaran kimia bagi siswa di SMA Negeri 1 Kota Ternate. Subjek yang dilibatkan sebagai mitra dalam kegiatan ini adalah 1 orang guru kimia dan 15 orang siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Kota Ternate. Metode yang digunakan terdiri atas tahapan persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah guru dan siswa mendapat pengalaman dalam memanfaatan media board games dalam pembelajaran kimia. Guru dapat mengimplementasikan media ini untuk materi atau topik kimia lainnya saat proses pembelajaran di kelas.
