Abstract

Leukemia is the most common type of cancer in children and adolescents. The most common types of leukemia in children are acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). During and after AML therapy, patients become highly dependent on caregivers. This can increase the burden, poor quality of life, and lead to burnout in caregivers. Various interventions have been developed to reduce the burden on caregivers and improve their quality of life. One of which is psychoeducational intervention. Psychoeducational intervention in the form of 1-hour-counseling was carried out to Mrs. M (49 years old), mother of A with AML diagnosis. Prior to counseling, caregivers' burden was measured using the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), a caregiver self-report measure with 22 items questionnaire. Within 1 week, monitoring was carried out per telephone for 2 times. On day 7, an evaluation of the caregiver's burden was done. The measurement results showed that there was a decrease in the ZBI score before and after the intervention.
