Abstract

The teaching and learning of English in non-English speaking countries always sparks public discussions. Having a sufficient vocabulary is crucial for effectively using a foreign language; without a broad range of words, it becomes difficult to employ the language structures and functions learned for meaningful communication. As a result, teachers need to be creative in applying vocabulary teaching strategies during the process of teaching and learning English as a foreign language (EFL). With this background in mind, the writer conducted research to investigate the strategies employed by English teachers at SDI Zumrotus Salamah Tulungagung. This particular school encourages active use of English in day-to-day activities. The research followed a qualitative design, involving 3 teachers from SDI Zumrotus Salamah as participants. Purposive sampling was used to focus on individuals and features most relevant to the study's objectives. Data collection methods included observation and interviews. The findings revealed that the teachers effectively utilized strategies such as the Determination Strategy, Social Strategy, Memory Strategy, Cognitive Strategy, and Metacognitive Strategy to cater to the learners' vocabulary needs. The study's results are expected to provide valuable insights for teachers, educators, and future researchers on the subject of teaching English vocabulary.

Abstract

The use of digital technology and the internet has changed how language education works. It gives learners many tools to get better at languages. Teachers and researchers need to understand what online language resources are available to help learners efficiently. This research's main goal is to look into the online resources that students use to learn English and see what students think about them. The data we collected shows that most students like using Language Learning Websites (LLW) to learn English. This shows that interactive websites are important for teaching languages in modern times. The finding that Language Learning Websites are the preferred choice among students aligns with the current trend of a diverse range of LLWs available. Dealing with the students’ perception, the findings shows that the students generally have a positive view of online resources for learning English. However, there are still some challenges to work on to make these online platforms better. Researchers and educators need to keep up with these changes to help language learners in the digital age

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has introduced new opportunities for improving English listening comprehension, a skill many EFL learners continue to find challenging. This study explores the use of AI-enhanced listening tools among students in the English Department at Universitas Bhinneka PGRI. The research aims to identify the AI tools commonly used by students, examine their perceptions of usefulness, ease of use, and engagement, and investigate the difficulties they encounter when using these tools. A qualitative descriptive exploratory design was employed, combining a questionnaire distributed to 43 students with semi-structured interviews conducted with 10 participants. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman framework, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that YouTube Auto-Caption is the most widely used AI tool, followed by ELSA Speak and Duolingo, mainly due to their accessibility and familiar interfaces. Students reported positive perceptions of AI-enhanced listening tools, noting that features such as automatic captions, speed control, replay functions, and pronunciation feedback helped them better understand spoken English and increased their motivation to practice listening. Despite these advantages, several challenges emerged, including inaccurate captions, unstable internet connections, limited free features, and insufficient guidance on how to use the tools effectively.Overall, the study concludes that AI-enhanced tools have strong potential to support EFL learners’ listening development, but their effectiveness depends on both technological quality and pedagogical support. The findings highlight the need for teachers to provide structured guidance and for developers to improve usability and accessibility. Future research may examine the long-term impact of AI tools or compare the effectiveness of different platforms in various learning contexts.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in education has gained significant momentum, particularly through AI-based writing assistants (AIbWAs), which offer considerable potential for enhancing the writing skills of EFL students. This explanatory mixed-methods study aimed to investigate EFL students' attitudes toward AIbWAs and explore their practices in academic writing classes. The participants were 83 EFL students from a private university in Indonesia. Quantitative data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire using a 4-point Likert scale to measure cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of students’ attitudes. The AIWAs examined included QuillBot, Grammarly, and ChatGPT. Based on attitude scores, students were categorized into four groups: embracing (31.3%), acceptance (38.6%), indifference (26.5%), and resistance (3.6%). The mean attitude score was 3.21, reflecting a generally favorable perception. Students in the embracing and acceptance groups reported frequent use of AIbWAs for grammar correction, paraphrasing, vocabulary enhancement, and idea development. Students in the indifference group used the tools sporadically, often citing uncertainty or lack of confidence in the AI output. The resistance group raised concerns about overreliance, academic dishonesty, and the potential loss of personal writing voice. Twelve students representing each group were selected for semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis of interview data revealed three key themes: perceived usefulness in improving writing quality, trust and skepticism toward AIbWAs' suggestions, and the perceived need for human judgment and ethical boundaries in academic writing. The findings underscore the importance of targeted digital literacy and pedagogical guidance to support effective and ethical use of AIbWAs in EFL contexts
