Abstract

Health care for expectant women primarily focuses on physical health, particularly in Independent Midwife Practice (PMB) in Bandung. Currently, only blood pressure checks, weight assessments, the administration of iron supplements, laboratory testing, tetanus vaccinations, and assessments of the fetus's position and heart rate are performed. Meanwhile, stress or anxiety is every day during pregnancy for pregnant women. This condition needs to be treated, and one method is spiritual. Using Quranic bibliotherapy as spiritual intervention, anxiety during pregnancy is reduced. Pregnant women who experienced anxiety were given anxiety questionnaires to complete, and those who did were gathered into groups and given three meetings' worth of quranic bibliotherapy through Zoom. Pregnant women who reported experiencing anxiety were subsequently collected into groups and given a three-meeting Quranic bibliotherapy intervention through Zoom Meetings and in person. The activity began with the distribution of anxiety questionnaires to pregnant women. The activity's results revealed that there had been a change in the participants' levels of anxiety, which had previously ranged from mild anxiety at 40% to moderate anxiety at 50%, severe anxiety at 10%, mild anxiety at 60%, and moderate anxiety at 40%. To use quranic bibliotherapy interventions on anxious pregnant women, midwives must have the necessary training.

Abstract

Side effects of tuberculosis (TB) treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs (ATDs) often include nausea. To address this symptom, an Islamic mindfulness approach is needed. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Islamic mindfulness in reducing nausea intensity among TB patients undergoing ATD therapy. The research followed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-post test control group design. The study included TB patients experiencing nausea symptoms during ATD therapy. The sample of 38 participants was selected through consecutive sampling, which 19 individuals assigned to the intervention group receiving an Islamic mindfulness program consisting of meditation exercises and Islamic reflection, while the remaining 19 individuals formed the control group receiving standard care. Nausea intensity was measured using the Index Nausea Vomiting and Retching (INVR) scale before and after the intervention. The results demonstrated that the intervention group experienced a significantly greater reduction in nausea intensity compared to the control group (p<0.0001), with a Cohen's-d effect size of 2.04. Over 98.0% of patients in the intervention group showed a reduction in nausea intensity surpassing the control group's average. In conclusion, this study indicated that Islamic mindfulness is effective in alleviating nausea intensity among TB patients undergoing ATD therapy.
