Abstract

Previous studies shows that several learning strategies have been used to promote critical thinking skills for students at the university level, the most frequently used is presentation. The students in the third semester of the English department in IAIN Pekalongan have distinctive responses regarding their critical thinking skills in their presentation. This study aimed to explain students’ perception, plan and implementation in their use of critical thinking skills in their presentation. This study was qualitative case study. The data gathered by classroom observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The findings showed (1) The students positively perceived their use of critical thinking skills in their presentation, they believed that critical thinking skills help them to enable their presentation, English skills, and performance (2) the students plan their critical thinking skills by preparing the schema, skills, and practicing (3) the implementation of critical thinking skills in students' presentation by combining students' awareness, activeness, and learning style. Theoretically, critical thinking skills are fundamental to be implemented in higher education students. Practically, the result of this study gave benefit for the lecturer in giving students challenging tasks that encourage them to use their critical thinking skills. Pedagogically, the implementation of critical thinking skills in students’ presentations needs a student-lecturer relationship.

Abstract

Dialect is a kind of language style that happened in some nations of the country especially in Indonesia. One of the varieties of dialect is Ngkalongan dialect which is characterized by variations in pronunciation, grammatical, and discourse features. The objective of this study is to explain the dialect found in the video that will be analyzed by qualitative research design. The data is taken from the video youtube channel. The data collection method by video observation. The researcher used an instrument observation checklist and taking notes to analyze the data. The result showed that there are 20 dialect that used by the speakers in speaking ngkalongan dialect. The researcher suggests for other researchers who will conduct research dealing with another dialect in Indonesia. Keywords: Dialect, Ngkalongan Dialect, Pekalongan Javanese spoken

Abstract

Abstract In communication, people usually apply the cooperative principle that consists of four maxims of conversational maxims for several reasons in several contexts. Speakers obey these maxims to have effective communication without any miscommunication. Flouting the maxims is a situation wherein the speakers cause misunderstanding on their participants’ part or to achieve some other purposes in conversation. The objective of this study intends to analyze the types of maxims that flout by Bill gates’ utterances. The data were collected by using video observation. The video is taken from the youtube channel The Ellen Show. The data analysis was done by (1) eliciting the video from youtube channel, (2) observing the data by watching and listening to the talk show, (3) transcribing the script, (4) analyzing the types of maxims that flout by Bill gates, (5) categorizing the data, (6) Finding the data (7) concluding the study. The finding shows a maxim of quantity is the most floating by Bill gates.

Abstract

The impact of post-covid-19 made lecturers think hard to keep using digital learning and developing the use of ICT in conducting learning activities. One of the digital learning tools used is Padlet. This study aims to explain students' perceptions of using Padlet, particularly in English writing class. A total of twenty-five students in the fourth-grade semester of the English department at the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang. The research design was a qualitative case study. The data was gathered through an open-ended questionnaire. The findings showed that the students perceived the use of Padlet as a learning English writing tool positively, they think Padlet help them to learn English writing and provides simple activities that encourage them to enjoy the learning process, and they perceived that Padlet enhances their motivation and create collaborative learning and student relationship. Theoretically, the use of Padlet in English writing could be implemented as a media tool to provide writing. Practically, the result of the research benefits EFL learners and practitioners. Pedagogically, the implementation of Padlet needed student-lecturer collaboration to achieve the objective of the learning. The researchers suggested that adding advanced English programs and activities to Padlet, will help them to improve the learning process of English writing.Keywords: Padlet, Students’ Perception, English Writing.

Abstract

Digital literacy competence played an essential role in the growth of University students to achieve their goals of learning. This study was carried out to define the students’ perception of the use of digital literacy in learning English. The participant consists of the students of the Accounting and Information system program, at Bina Sarana Informatika University. 50 students were chosen by purposive sampling technique. The students had a distinctive response regarding the use of digital literacy competence and how they perceive it. This study was a qualitative case study. The data was gathered through open-ended questionnaires and classroom observation. The findings showed that the students had a positive voice regarding the use of digital literacy competence in learning English, they argued that digital literacy need willingness and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Error analysis plays an important role in investigating errors in the acquisition of a second or foreign language. This error analysis is part of the investigation into the process of learning English. The research aimed of this study is to analyze the types of errors made by the students of SMAN 2 Semarang on writing future tense sentences in a short dialogue. In this research, the researchers will discuss the types of interlingual errors. Qualitative descriptive methods used to find the types of errors that made by the students. The data was gathered through written task in the form of students’ writing short dialogue in  English using future tense. The Findings showed that the researchers found a non-contrastive analysis which was divided into 4 such as, over-generalization, ignorance of rules restrictions, incomplete application of rules, and hypothesized false concepts. As a result of student work, based on the frequency of each aspect of error the highest level error found is hypothesized false concepts. So that students still do not fully understand the topic and context discussed in the future tense sentence. Therefore, students must continue to learn to understand the rules of sentence structure and the teacher also develops more teaching methods so that students can easily understand the material.

Abstract

Dalam era digital ini, Salah satu peran utama dalam penggunaan internet adalah dengan memahami pentingnya literasi digital yang akan meningkatkan kemampuan dalam pengelolaan informasi. Internet telah menjadi salah satu sumber informasi utama yang memengaruhi kehidupan sehari-hari. Namun, kesadaran akan pentingnya penggunaan internet yang aman dan bertanggung jawab masih menjadi tantangan bagi sebagian besar masyarakat, terutama mereka yang belum terbiasa dengan teknologi informasi. Hal ini juga dialami oleh para anak yatim yayasan rumah harapan Karawang. Di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa para anak yatim belum memiliki kemampuan dalam penggunaan internet yang aman. Hal ini menjadi poin penting bagi para pendamping anak yatim untuk dapat memantau dan mengawasi penggunaan internet yang aman untuk para anak yatim di Yayasan Rumah Harapan. Atas dasar itu, pengabdian masyarakat ini tentang Pelatihan Peningkatan Literasi Digital: Pemanfaatan Internet yang Aman bagi Yayasan Rumah Harapan Karawang. Tujuan penyelenggaraan Pengabdian Masyarakat pada Yayasan rumah harapan Karawang adalah (1) Memberikan pemahaman dan keterampilan dasar kepada para anak yatim dan dhuafa dalam menggunakan internet secara bijak dan aman. (2) Pelatihan ini dirancang khusus untuk membantu para anak yatim dalam memahami risiko yang terkait dengan penggunaan internet yang tidak bertanggung jawab, seperti penipuan online, penyebaran informasi palsu, atau bahaya lainnya. Materi pelatihan mencakup cara menggunakan internet dengan efektif, mengenali informasi yang dapat dipercaya, langkah-langkah perlindungan online, dan manfaat positif yang dapat diperoleh dari teknologi informasi Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilaksanakan pada bulan April 2024, dengan dihadiri oleh para anak yatim. Adapun kegiatan pelatihan ini dilakukan menggunakan metode ceramah, tutorial, dan diskusi. Kata Kunci : Literasi Digital, Internet aman, Pengabdian masyarakat

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat merupakan salah satu wujud implementasi Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi yang dilakukan oleh dosen. Dalam era digital, keterampilan video editing menjadi sangat relevan untuk berbagai keperluan, termasuk kegiatan sosial dan keagamaan. Aplikasi CapCut, dengan fitur yang kompleks dan manfaat yang luas, telah menjadi alat populer di berbagai bidang, termasuk dalam mendukung aktivitas masjid. Namun, keterampilan editing video di kalangan Remaja Masjid Al Husain, Telaga Murni, Cikarang, masih tergolong kurang optimal, sehingga kualitas video yang dihasilkan belum maksimal.Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, tim pengabdian masyarakat menyelenggarakan pelatihan video editing menggunakan aplikasi CapCut bagi Remaja Masjid Al Husain. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan keterampilan kreatif mereka dalam pembuatan dan pengeditan video, baik untuk mendukung kegiatan masjid maupun keperluan pribadi. Pelatihan dilakukan melalui metode penyampaian teori, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung, sehingga peserta dapat mempelajari konsep sekaligus menerapkannya secara langsung.Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan ini berjalan dengan baik dan memberikan dampak positif bagi peserta. Analisis kuesioner yang diisi oleh peserta menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman mereka terhadap teknik editing video, serta kemampuan untuk menghasilkan konten yang lebih kreatif dan berkualitas. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini tidak hanya berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan teknis peserta tetapi juga memberikan kontribusi nyata terhadap pengembangan potensi Remaja Masjid Al Husain dalam bidang kreatif digital.
