Abstract

The idea translated is a concept or message that the author writes in his writings. Translating Books with religious nuances is more than just transferring the concept or storyline, because it has a high sensibility, which is loaded with sacred meanings that can only be understood well by adherents who really live the expression and means in earnest beside learn and explore the values of religion and belief earlier, but it should also be able to describe messages that can be affected by culture or literal. This article describes the authors' experiences when translating English religious nuances book containing personal experiences from MS. Asma Gull Hasan concerns grief as a minority Muslim group in America. Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tool using aid translators to edit, manage and store translations.

Abstract

Curriculum 2013, implemented on the academic year of 2013-2014, is one of the efforts of the curriculum developer to response to  challenge of today and tomorrow, the demands from the society, the development of knowledge and pedagogy, future skills, and the uprising of the negative phenomenon. In curriculum 2013 there exist  several built-in aspects in the curriculum management. They are: teachers, books, students, and supervising. The objective of this study is to analyze the teachers’ role in terms of their effort and readiness towards curriculum 2013. English subject in curriculum 2013 clearly showing that the teachers’ authority is smaller, their competence is sufficient, the workload is heavier, while the teaching-learning process is not really effective. This shows that the teachers and the implementation still needs time and supports from the stakeholders.Keywords: curriculum 2013, teachers’ management, English teacher,                          high school

Abstract

This study deals with the English deixis. The objectives of this study are to analyze type of deixis and to find out frequency of each deixis in the movie entitled Wreck-It Ralph. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The source of data was taken from the movie script of Wreck-It Ralph. Documentary technique is used in collecting data. The findings showed that there are three types of deixis found in the Wreck-It Ralph movie script and there are nine frequencies of deixis, namely person deixis in greater occurrences than another. Type of person deixis is used 336 times or (94, 37%), which contains of first person used 237 times or (66,57%), second person used 56 times or (15,73%), and third person used 43 times or (12,07%). The next, spatial (place) deixis is used 16 times or (4,49%) and the last, temporal (time) deixis is used 4 times or (1,12%) which consist of present used 2 times or (0,56%), past used 1 time or (0,28%), future used 1 time or (0,28%). Keywords:  Pragmatic, Movie, Deixis

Abstract

Local wisdom is the using of culture’s elements based on regionalism. In Purwakarta society, this local wisdom is highly held especially because there is a rule from regional government which requires their society to revert to their ancestor’s cultures. The one of the local wisdomelement which is applied in Purwakarta is literature. Sunda language is the language they used in heir daily communication.This research describes the strengthening of Sundanese local wisdom through literature especially the using of Sundanese in every Wednesday either in regional institutions or in schools in Purwakarta. The name of Sunda for Sunda ethnic has some meanings which refers to hope of the kindness in all aspects of life. The writers choose Purwakarta because the writers are interested in the culture of Purwakarta. The writers want to know how the culture in Purwakarta develop. The culture basically remain nuanced sundanese cultural and religious values especially Islam. the acculturation of Sunda and Hindu culture, and the use of traditional language and writing or traditional literature in daily life. This research usedis qualitative method with case study design. The result of this research shows that the using of Sundanese in every Wednesday is very effective in strengthening Sundanese local wisdom.

Abstract

The aims of the research is to know endhoporic reference in Oprah’s speech. This research use descriptive qualitative method. The writer choose a transcript about  Oprah’s speech from the website Endophoric is diveded in two types, there are anaphoric and cataphoric. The result shows that endhoporic references can be found in each paragraph in Oprah’s speech. This research found that anaphoric predominate in Oprah’s speech because she refers to something that has mentioned at before. In this study there were six sentences that referred to anaphoric reference and only one sentence referred to the cathaporic reference.  Anaphoric is the only reference related to cohesion.

Abstract

In discourse features, including cohesion, there is an ellipsis. Ellipsis is one of the features to make communication more effective especially in written. Ellipsis exist in three kinds there are a nominal ellipsis, verbal ellipsis, and clausal ellipsis. Based on that problem, the researcher wants to investigate what are the ellipsis elements used, implemented and how are the ellipsis expressed in Hinglish Short Movie which have title “Divorce” . In order that can give critical analyze, describe the ellipsis elements and the interpretation of the ellipsis in the dialogues of that movie itself and practically it gives contribution for the teachers, students, researcher, education and other researchers. The technique used by the researcher was documentation by watching “Divorce” Hinglish with analysis of the dialogues from the movie. From the data that have been analyzed, it was found that there were three types of ellipsis elements that occurred in the analysis of ellipsis in “Divorce” Hinglish Movie. The most frequent types were verbal ellipsis occurred 3 times clausal and nominal ellipsis occurred once of a time both of them. Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in students' mastery of English vocabulary using crosswords and to find out what are the effects of using crosswords in the learning process. This research uses classroom action research methods. Researchers conducted research in one of the junior high schools in Cimahi and the subjects in this study consisted of 34 students. For data collection researchers used observation, interviews and tests, to find out whether there was progress from students in improving their mastery of English vocabulary. This research was carried out in two cycles. In the first cycle the average value of students 58.97 and categorized as still very low or bad. Then the researchers proceed to the second cycle by using the steps in classroom action research and the researcher is more focused on attracting students' attention to focus on learning and explaining the instructions for working on crosswords. Therefore in the second cycle, the average value of students increased to 76.02 and the category is good. This shows that there is an increase in the mastery of English vocabulary after implementing crossword puzzle games in the learning process in the classroom. Keywords:  Improving, Vocabulary mastery, Crossword puzzle

Abstract

Having competencies on teaching English to young learners (TEYL), the teachers will be able to design materials, to teach well, and to suggest what approaches, methods, and techniques to be used. However, TEYL should not be done without careful planning and preparation. This study investigated TEYL process in Cimahi. It is intended to identify and analyze English teaching and learning process in Elementary and Kindergarten,  teachers’ perception towards TEYL, and students’ responses toward English lesson. The study reported here made use of qualitative research design as its method, while the instruments were questionnaire, observations, and interview. There were 3 teachers of Kindergarten and Elementary school chosen based on purposive sampling technique as the subject of the research. e

Abstract

English learning is a local content at the elementary level. Our interest in the PKM program is due to the initial findings that most of teachers who teach English at kindergarten or elementary levels only rely on the existing worksheet. In addition, teachers still find it difficult to find or use learning media that is in line with the learning theme. The main objective in this activity is to provide assistance in making and using English learning media. The method of implementing this activity is in the form of in-service training programs, namely training for kindergarten and elementary school teachers in Cihampelas sub-district. Based on the results of the questionnaire, it can be concluded that the training material is very useful for participants in enhancing creativity, besides that the participants also think that the teaching media used are easy to make.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan media pembelajaran yang belum optimal, menjadi salah satu masalah yang dihadapi guru di wilayah Subang, terlebihnya di desa jalan Cagak. Dalam proses pembelajaran, media pembelajaran menjadi salah satu unsur penunjang keberhasilan suatu pembelajaran. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk dapat mendampingi dan membekali para guru SMP melalui pelatihan peningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam melaksanakan kegiatan pembelajaran berbahasa Inggris, dengan memanfaatkan media dan sumber bahan ajar yang tersedia di internet, terutama dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran Digital Story Telling. Metode yang akan digunakan dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah metode pendekatan masalah atau transfer IPTEK. Metode yang dilakukan oleh tim pelaksana PKM terhadap mitra sekolah yaitu melalui melalui proses survey dan interview yang dilakukan secara berkesinambungan sehingga dapat menganalisis, mendiskusikan, dan memberikan pendampingan secara langsung terkait media pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Melalui kegiatan PKM ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa para guru SMP di wilayah Subang memberikan respon yang positif dan sangat antusias sekali selama pelaksanakan pelatihan berlangsung. Dari pelaksanaan program PKM ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan Media Digital Story Telling sangat diminati oleh para guru karena dapat dengan mudah diaplikasikan di kelas dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Kata Kunci : pelatihan 1, SMP 2, Digital Story Telling 3
