Abstract

The location of Indonesia, which is located between three major tectonic plates, has an advantage in the field of alternative energy, namely geothermal heat. This research was conducted in order to facilitate the government and the community in North Sumatra Province regarding the existing geothermal potential. Geothermal energy or can be called geothermal is heat energy contained in water fluid or in the form of steam, liquid, or a mixture of both which is at a depth of more than 1 kilometer below the earth's surface. Indonesia has a geothermal potential of 40% of the total geothermal potential in the world, Indonesia is in second place, which is 23.76 GigaWatt (GW). One example is in North Sumatra in the Sarulla (330 MW) and Sibayak (120 MW) and Dolok Marawa (38 MW) areas. This study aims to create a mapping of geothermal potential in the province of North Sumatra using Quantum GIS by conducting literature studies, data collection, data management, and map visualization on Quantum GIS. reduce the use of fossil energy that is not friendly to the environment. The results show that the largest Geothermal Working Capacity Area (WKP) in North Sumatera is in South Tepanuli Regency with a total of 1,046 MW in Sibual Buali WKP and the second highest is Mandailing Regency of 240 MW.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In an aquaponics system, the electricity produced by photovoltaic solar power (PLTS) is stored in batteries and used to power the water pumps. Using natural microorganisms to transform fish waste into plant nutrients, aquaponics is a cultivation method that blends fish and plant cultivation. The aquaponics system helps reduce the amount of trash released into the environment and is beneficial to the environment. The main goal of this study is to evaluate an off-grid PLTS system's functionality as a DC water pump power source in an aquaponics setting. This study's goal is to evaluate how well the PLTS operates when powering the DC water pump that circulates water in the aquaponics system.According to performance tests, the off-grid PLTS generates an average energy of 503.8 Wh, which is enough to power the DC pump for 20 hours a day of water circulation. The water pump uses only 382.6 Wh of electricity each day. With an average solar panel efficiency of 4.97%, an average solar charge controller (SCC) efficiency of 60.51%, and an average pump efficiency of 79.91%, the Off-grid PLTS demonstrates efficiency. With a daily solar irradiation of 7.8 kWh/m2, the average energy loss in the solar panel is 5.29 kWh/kWp, whereas the average energy loss in the system is 0.10 kWh/kWp. All things considered, these results provide insight into how well the Off-grid PLTS functions as a power source for the DC water pump in an aquaponics system.

Abstract

Biodiesel is an environmentally friendly alternative fuel for diesel engines. The research studies the extraction process of biodiesel from waste produced by a fish canning factory using a heterogeneous catalyst known as cocopeat ash. The experiment was designed utilizing a completely randomized design with two factorial treatments and four repetitions. The primary factor under investigation was the composition of the catalyst, specifically 3%, 5%, and 7% w/v methanol. The second factor examined was the reaction time of either 60 minutes or 120 minutes. Data analysis revealed variations in density, viscosity, acid number, and Free Fatty Acids (FFA) in fish oil before and after refinement. The treatment that yielded the highest results was A3B2, featuring a catalyst composition of 7% and a reaction time duration of two hours, which achieved an impressive biodiesel yield of 81%. Moreover, several parameters tested for compliance with SNI-04-7182-2015 standards showed positive outcomes. These parameters include a density value measuring 876.3 kg/m³, the flash point around 160°C, iodine number reaching 16.36 g/100g, and heating value 47.47 MJ/Kg.

Abstract

The biomass fermentation system is used to produce bioethanol from organic basic materials with the help of microorganisms. The bioethanol production process produced ethanol concentration with Saccharomyces Cerevisiae in this study using experimental methods by implementing a monitoring system using ESP32, cloud service data logger, pH sensor, MQ-2 sensor and temperature sensor. The test dataset is stored in the next data logger cloud service used for the process of classifying fermentation results. The real-time data logger from the monitoring system has not been able to detect the parameters that categorize the concentration of fermentation products have been declared successful, so the user must analyze the data and carry out periodic checks to ensure the success of the fermentation process. The results of the SVM test show that the level of accuracy in the classification of bioethanol fermentation production shows satisfactory results, namely 99.79% using a linear kernel with training data of 60% and testing data of 40%, while the lowest accuracy using the RBF kernel is 95.85 with 80% training data and 20% testing data.
