Abstract

The purpose of this article is to elucidate the relations of empowering leadership on creativity and work-effort by using psychological empowerment and self-leadership. This elucidation contributes to fill the void in empirical studies by simultaneously examining the dynamics of relations among empowering leadership, creativity, work-effort, psychological empowerment, and self-leadership. The social exchange theory is applied to theoretically explain the psychological mechanisms among the constructs. As millennials are categorized as a creative generation, this study focuses on discussing the factors influencing their creativity and work-effort, with a specific notion of empowerment. This study is based on survey data (n = 113) of millennial generation employees working in digital start-up creative industries in Indonesia. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is used to estimate the model. Results of the study find that empowering leadership influences employee creativity and work-effort either directly or indirectly through psychological empowerment and self-leadership. More specifically, the psychological empowerment of employees partially mediates the influence of empowering leadership on employee creativity and employee work-effort. Employee self-leadership also partially mediates the effect of empowering leadership on psychological empowerment, creativity, and employee work-effort. This study implies the practical and theoretical application of empowering leadership in the creativity context of the millennial generation.

Abstract

In measuring a nation’s wealth, we can observe from how much purchasing power its citizens have.  The more things they can buy with the same value of money, the wealthier the nation is. This paper will examine the purchasing power of Indonesian citizens in buying one of their essential staples; egg. We will take a look at those having minimum wage, whether they need a higher value of money in order to purchase one kilograms of egg. To understand how powerful the purchasing power is, we will compare with Australian citizens having the minimum wage, as well. The distinction part of this paper, is that we take into account OECD’s Purchasing Power conversion rate, instead of using currency rate. After examining both samples, we obtain that people in Indonesia have lower purchasing power than those in Australia.

Abstract

The implementation of community service activities exemplifies the essence of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This initiative is based at Wisata Bamboe Wanadesa on Jl. Giri Rejo KM 15, Karang Joang Village, North Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City, leveraging its bamboo forest resources for tourism. However, a deficiency in human resources is apparent in managing social media, graphic design, branding, and promotion for this attraction. The absence of knowledge among residents and tourists about the bamboo varieties also persists. To address these gaps, we conducted community service through diverse approaches. Workshops were conducted to train content creators using CapCut and Canva applications, enhancing social media visibility. Google Site was employed to bolster tourism branding, serving as an information hub. Furthermore, information boards strategically placed within Bamboe Wanadesa Tourism, interconnected with Google Site, were introduced. The outcomes encompass collaborative Instagram content, the Bamboe Wanadesa website, and informative plant labels, significantly contributing to improved engagement and knowledge dissemination.

Abstract

Purpose: Amidst the rapidly evolving work environment in the post-COVID-19 era, this study aims to examine the effect of work-life balance on quiet quitting and job satisfaction among private sector employees in Indonesia, drawing upon the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory. Methodology: This research employs an explanatory quantitative design utilizing purposive sampling. Primary data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 125 respondents who met the criteria as full-time employees within the private sector in Indonesia. The statistical analysis and hypothesis testing were conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via WarpPLS 8.0 software. Findings: The analytical results demonstrate that both proposed hypotheses are empirically supported. Specifically, work-life balance exhibits a strong negative and significant effect on quiet quitting (β = -0.728; f² = 0.530; p < 0.001). Furthermore, it demonstrates a positive and highly significant effect on job satisfaction (β = 0.807; f² = 0.652; p < 0.001). Implications: These findings underscore the critical need for management to implement concrete work-life balance policies within private sector companies. Initiatives such as establishing clear boundaries on work communication outside working hours and developing employee energy recovery programs are essential to effectively suppress quiet quitting behaviors and foster higher job satisfaction. Originality: This research is among the initial studies to position work-life balance as a shared antecedent of quiet quitting and job satisfaction simultaneously among private sector employees in Indonesia, enriching the empirical application of COR theory.

Abstract

Abstract

The gig economy exposes online ride-hailing drivers to a precarious work environment characterized by algorithmic control, income uncertainty, and long working hours, leading to significant job stress. This high-pressure context raises a critical research problem: how do these workers manage psychological strain to sustain performance when formal organizational support is absent? Cyberloafing, a behavior with a debated dual role as both a counterproductive act and a recovery tool, emerges as a potential, self-directed coping strategy. This study aims to examine the mediating role of cyberloafing in the relationship between job stress and productivity among online ride-hailing drivers, framed by the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory. A quantitative survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted with 199 drivers, and data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results show that job stress has a significant positive effect on cyberloafing (β = 0.29; p ≤ 0.01), which in turn has a significant positive effect on productivity (β = 0.24; p ≤ 0.01). The main finding confirms that cyberloafing acts as a full mediator, revealing that the entire influence of stress on productivity is channeled through this behavior. This re-frames cyberloafing not as a counterproductive act, but as an essential adaptive coping mechanism that helps drivers restore psychological resources under pressure, thereby maintaining productivity in a demanding, autonomous work setting.
