Abstract

Abstract

Mycorrhiza is a type of biological fertilizer that can improve soil health, environmental protection, soil nutrient status and agricultural yields. The demand for tomatoes continues to increase every year along with population growth and in 2021. In order to meet the need for tomato consumption every year, various efforts are being made to continue to increase production through the use of minimal and environmentally friendly output such as the use of mycorrhiza biological fertilizer. This research aims to determine the effect of the use and dosage of mycorrhizal fertilizer on the growth of tomato plants (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill). This research was carried out on Jln Rela, Gg. Danau Toba, No. 16. starting from 10 September 2023 - 11 November 2023. Mycorrhizal fertilizer was given in 2 treatments, namely 5 gr and 10 gr with 2 repetitions each and control (no mycorrhizal fertilizer was given). Providing 10g of mycorrhizal biofertilizer/plant provides the best growth and results for tomato plants with the parameters of plant height and number of leaves.

Abstract

Abstract

Diarrhoeal disease is a condition in which the shape of faeces changes and the frequency of bowel movements increases abnormally. The emergence of the incidence of diarrhoea is the factor of providing an unhealthy diet is likely to cause diarrhoea so that it is more susceptible to disease. This study aims to analyse the relationship between diet and immune system of patients with diarrhoea in Mogang Health Centre. The results showed that diarrhoeal disease is a significant health problem in Indonesia, especially in toddlers, who have a high risk of dehydration and malnutrition. An unbalanced diet and lack of nutritional intake can contribute to a decrease in the immune system, thus helping the condition of diarrhoea sufferers. This study shows that children who consume a nutritionally balanced diet have a better immune system compared to those who rely on unhealthy foods.

Abstract

Microplastic pollution poses a severe threat to marine ecosystems due to its persistence and toxicity, necessitating innovative biodegradation strategies. This study explored the potential of bacteria isolated from mangrove sediments of the Paluh Getah mangrove forest, North Sumatra, to degrade common microplastics, including LDPE, HDPE, PET, PP, and PS. Ten bacterial isolates were obtained and screened for their ability to grow on microplastic-supplemented mineral salt medium over 20 days. Three isolates (BPM 5, BPM 9, and BPM 10) demonstrated robust growth, with biochemical tests confirming catalase activity critical for managing oxidative stress during plastic degradation. Molecular identification via 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed the isolates as Enterobacter sp. and Brevibacillus parabrevis, both known for their biodegradation capacities. The findings underscore the diverse metabolic pathways these bacteria employ to utilize microplastics as carbon sources. This research highlights the promise of mangrove sediment bacteria as eco-friendly bioremediation agents to mitigate microplastic pollution in coastal environments. Further studies are required to optimize degradation conditions and elucidate enzymatic mechanisms to enhance practical applications.
